Ahoy there! Sorry…I just finished “The Pirate Lord” re-release of the 1998 novel by Sabrina Jeffries and I’m having a bit of a problem coming back to this reality. There’s just something about a man with a bandanna and an earring…and maybe a parrot…ooh, and a sword…a really, really, BIG sword! Ahem, excuse me. It’s that whole reality thing again. So anyway, hot pirates ahead (check out the new cover, mmmmmm, delicious). And lots of humor and witty dialogue More...

It didn’t quite know what to expect from this book. I must admit that I anticipated a swashbuckling adventure like those old Errol Flynn movies but its storyline definitely leaned more towards Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Not a bad thing because that’s one of my all-time favourite movies!

Captain Gideon Horn, the notorious Pirate Lord, and his crew of not-such-cutthroat pirates, are keen to settle down to a life of domestic bliss on an island paradise. All they need now are wives! Kidnapping More...

Intrigue, Suspense, & Boundless Passion! An Absolute Page-Turner!

***Review is based on three quarters of completion***

I'm in the middle of reading, and I have to say it is without-a-doubt a spectacular novel!

Full of dramatic, insatiable, amorous scenes between Gideon & Sara, which have caused me to read every last tidbit I could before succumbing to slumber!

Well done Ms. Jeffries, I'm eagerly awaiting to discover the conclusion of what has occurred between Capt. Horn & Miss Willis, More...

This is my first book by Sabrina Jeffries - but it won't be my last. "The Pirate Lord" has everything: intense sexual tension between the two main characters that leads to hot and steamy love scenes, engaging relationships between a colorful cast of secondary characters, quite a few tugs on the old heartstrings and more than plenty of laughs!

Gideon is one of the sexiest heroes I've read about in quite a while - the perfect pirate. And Sara's stubborness and strong will placed her in quite a few More...

Living the life of a pirate takes a toll, Captain Gideon Horn known as the Pirate Lord, finally decided to settle down and live his life on an isolated Island. The crew agreed, all they needed was women to make their life complete. Stopping an English women convict transport would be just what they needed. Rescuing the convict women didn't go as planned because of the reformer, do-gooder Sara Willis. She was on board as the teacher of these women, trying to prepare them for going to the prison I More...

Miss Sara Willis, the Earl of Blackmore’s step-sister, is a reformist, and as such, she has decided that she is going to accompany and become the champion of the unfairly convicted women convicts who are being transported to Australia for their meagre and desperate crimes. However, she doesn’t count on her and the convict women being kidnapped by the infamous Pirate Lord, Captain Gideon Horn, who no doubt will use them for despicable purposes. But Sara can’t help but notice that Captain Horn’s p More...

This is a great start to the "Lord" series by Sabrina Jeffries. I have to admit that I am a sucker for pirate books. My favorite is the Pirate Prince by Gaelen Foley, but this one is a close second.

I really liked this heroine. She had the perfect balance of strength, vulnerability, and goodness. Sara is a reformer. She is one that seeks to make a difference in the lives of hurting people around her. She is not shallow, materialistic, and selfish. She is a giver. It is these characteristics that More...

The first page let me know just what I was in store for. She said she’d known a great many awkward moments in her 23 years, then proceeds to list only 3, not 1 of which is awkward. She filched biscuits from the grand kitchen. That’s not awkward in any way, shape or form. I’ve read idk how many books with situations like this, and it’s just pathetic. She fell in the fountain at her mother and stepfather’s wedding. That’s not awkward either, just clumsy and stupid. Then she introduced a l More...

Wow...this was a fun book. I've read pirate books before but this ones different. Whoever heard of a bunch of pirates wanting to settle down and retire on their own uncharted island? Well that's what these pirates want to do. They only have one problem.....NO WOMEN to marry and start a family with. Their crazy solution...."Let's capture a women's convict ship bound for New South Wales." Only one fly in the ointment....Sara....the step sister to the Earl of Blackmore. She was on the ship with the More...

A pirate captain with a crew of pirates looking to give up their wayward life and settle down; a ship of female convicts bound for Australia and shepherded by a crusading English lady; a not-so-bright idea by said pirate captain of capturing the female convicts and providing brides for his crew - all together a recipe for disaster. Or so some would think.

I enjoyed this story for its escapism mostly. I didn't find it overly romantic in spite of the fact that said Captain Horn spent a lot of his More...

Bintang 3.
Buku 1 seri Lord Trilogy.

Kapten Gideon Horn and Miss Sara Willis. Saya suka cerita bajak laut dan saya suka karangan Miss Jeffries. Tapi untuk The Pirate Lord ceritanya agak memaksa. Tapi latar belak More...

Quick take~

I must have been in the mood for pirates as this book had me thoroughly enthralled with the adventure. Captain Gideon Horn is the aforementioned 'Pirate Lord' and who can resist that timeless image of the handsome captain standing at the bow of the ship, legs spread, arms crossed, wind blowing his long hair, shirt open to the waist...you get the picture. I thought of Errol Flynn in 'The Sea Hawk' through the whole book.

I also liked the crusading heroine and all the secondary plots an More...

I really don't think pirate sex is like this.

-Pirates want to get married
-Pirates have issues with abandonment
-Pirates are incredibly romantic; when having sex with virgins, they constantly ask them if they are hurting them
-Pirates are actually attractive and do not smell bad
-Pirates like to tell small children stories and cuddle with them in bed

Best lines:
"Obey me, me lady, or I will brandish you with my saber." (He SO did not mean saber.)
"What on earth was she thinking, having a pirate carry h More...

Lessee... where to start? How about the dim bulb of a heroine who went incognito on a ship of female convicts bound for New South Wales? Orrr... the last time I read of a pirate that amiable towards women, it was Pirate by Fabio. Yeaaahhhhh.... Improbability factor quite high with this book.

Ironically, if the setting had been more believable - i.e. not a self-righteous dingbat heroine putting herself in harm's way and not a pirate who was one of those new-fangled "kinder, gentler" pirates - the More...

I had some issues with this book, so much that I almost DNFd it. Now, I finished this some time ago, so I won't have many of the things that bugged me, but one thing that stands out: the hero was a complete idiot.

He's a pirate captain. He's been preying on British ships for years and is feared throughout the seven seas. But I just don't know how he got that way without either killing himself or getting caught because he just doesn't think things through very well. Also, he goes practically catat More...

This romance definitely have an old skool style to it, which made it hard to grade as I'm not fond of that type of romance. But the last part of the story was quite good.

The book starts off on the wrong foot with a TSTL heroine move. She wants to sail to Australia on a convict ship as a part of her charity work. This is stupidly dangerous - she is almost guaranteed rape, starvation or disease. But off she goes - she is well aware of the danger, she claims. Yet she acts all shocked - shocked! - w More...

A very satisfying read!

Sara does not quite fit in, she is neither a noble nor a commoner and she spends most of her time trying to help people. In one such effort, she joins a ship full of convict women on their way to Australia to spend their sentences, determined to see firsthand the conditions they are kept under on the journey and help them as much as she can.

Gideon is an infamous pirate who targets mostly English noblemen, but has a different target in mind when he captures the convict ship More...

This was a good first in series book. I will continue the series for sure!

A woman Sara is not quite a lady, but an adopted daughter of a lord. Her parents are both dead & she lives with her stepbrother who is an earl. Who cares? Right? LOL... anyway, she is some womens rights activist and she decides she is taking the ship ride to austrailia with women convicts to protect them from the sailors who will treat them as whores once their journey is well on their way.

What awaits them in Austrai More...

The Pirate Lord is the first book in Sabrina Jeffries Lord Trilogy. Sara Willis, Stepdaughter to the late Earl of Blackmore, has devoted her life to helping those less fortunate than her. She learns that a group of women convicts are being shipped to New South Wales. Despite her brother's opposition Sara obtains passage on the ship as a schoolteacher. Shortly after passage Sara's boat is taken by a group of pirates. The Captain Gideon Horn learns that the ship is full of women and gets the brill More...

Gosh it's hard when Goodreads doesn't give the option of 1/2 stars. This one really is a 3 and 1/2. 3 just isn't quite enough and four seems a little too generous....Oh well, we'll be optimistic.

I really did enjoy the book. I had not read much of Sabrina Jeffries before and found her writing style to be smooth with the storyline flowing easily. I will assuredly pick up a few more of hers in the future. I guess it was the main characters that I just couldn't bring myself to love. I like that Sara More...

A Romance-Lover's Romance. Although the story wasn't quite what I expected, the character and romance development won me over. The secondary romance(s!) not only added flavor, but made the character's growth and the whole story work for me even better. The pacing was nice and there were a couple of nights when I read way too long because I couldn't stop. This was my first Sabrina Jeffries and won't be my last (especially since I really want to hear Jordan's story).

Quite entertaining story, with the hero's character well-developed, and an exciting, if unbelievable plot (this IS a pirate romance after all!). The heroine is missing maybe a small something in the character development area, but I like the way the author writes and it was a pleasant read, with no irritating passages, which some books have. The secondary characters could easily have been more developed though. They were all rather interesting but not much was actually written about them.
