Dr. Gross writes a heartwrenching yet inspiring story about the life of her mother who contracted polio at the age of two. She describes how victims of this vicious disease were not only affected physically, but emotionally as well. The effects rippled through families, thus claiming more than one victim. This book gives the reader an understanding of the devastating effects that chronic illness can inflict on families.

An interesting and informative book that got a little tedious as times. So interesting to learn about the treatment of polio and one person's life suffering from this disease. Of course all members of the family suffer in some way. It was a good read.
