A contemporary cinderella story about 4 very different "latina" women..almost stopped reading within the first chapter 'cuz it opened with the one girl who is a Christian Republican Texan debutant, but, luckily, I had enough open-mindedness in me to give it a try anyway. Thankfully, the following chapter nicely countered her peppy sweetness with a character who survived watching her father's murder at the hands of Reagon-sponsored Contras in El Salvador and later became a hard-core act...more

This is the novel that introduced me to Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez and got me hooked on her chick-lit with a Hispanic twist books. Don't assume I'm prejudiced for pointing out the ethnicity either, as she makes it abundantly clear throughout the books that she is attempting to represent Hispanic culture, to greater or lesser degrees, in this book.

Ok, so I really really did like "Dirty Girls," but this book kept me on a roller coaster - I would be so disappointed by the see-through plot, the paperthin (literally and figuratively) characters, the money-centricity and the false LA lifestyles portrayed that I'd want to yank it out of my CD player and throw it out my car window...those days I wanted to give it 2 stars..or maybe 1..

This is the first book I've ever read by Mrs. Valdes-Rodriguez. I had heard about her first book, Dirty Girls Social Club, when critics compared it to a Latin Waiting To Exhale. I haven't read her first book yet, but I was thrilled to find this book on sale at my local library.
What a read! There were some very funny moments and I found all three of her main characters very endearing. There is beautiful Alexis, the Republican manager to the stars with her outrageous famous father, she's ambi...more

I listened to the audio version of this book.
I liked that the three narrators were very different from really another other book I have read. This was narrated by three very different Latino women and I thought those perspectives made this book really interesting.
That said, this book was way long. Even compared to other unabridged books, this was 13 disk! Longer than any other audiobook I have read by 3 cds and honestly, I thought lots from this book could have been cut out. I think I st...more

Light, fluffy. Three Latinas looking for love and friendship. I didn't like the character Marcella, but Alexis and Olivia were fairly interesting. I think the audiobook version could have been better without some of the reader's accents. Marcella's Aussie bit was really bad. So bad that I skipped chapters so that I didn't have to listen.
I was happy that Alexis found the man of her dreams and stood up for herself. Olivia's character could have been more in-depth. Her back story was interestin...more

I do enjoy A V-Rs books. I started with the "Dirty Girls Social Club", and suddenly, I had a whole different insight into Hispanic/Latina culture in the United States. I never thought about how rich and varied all the different cultures are that come to the States from the Spanish-speaking countries - Cuba, Mexico, Columbia. Nor did I realize how much I thought of them all as being similar. This is chick-lit that actually made me see Los Angeles differently - which makes it really good

this book was... goooood, not usual fluffy chick lit that i usually go for, although i thought it was. This book was meaty, well thought out, and provided the lives and stories of the charaters well and in a very matter of fact manner, although a few have some issues you cannot help but enjoy their journey and the ways that they related to and revolve around each other. It was a little difficicult to get into but once I was in i was hooked. :) I recommend this

It might just be a result of my oddly strong love for reading about places I know, but I really enjoyed this story about three women in Los Angeles. I think the formula of weaving three different characters' stories together becomes cliched very easily... and I admit, this book probably crosses that line a few times, but so good-naturedly that I didn't mind at all. Definitely chick-lit fare, though, in the interest of full disclosure.

This novel kept my attention, and that is not easy to do. The story is set in LA and surrounding areas. It tells the intertwining stories of a talent manager and her love interest; an aspiring actress and men in her life; and a subrban mom of a little boy who becomes a screen writer. The screenplay itself is a story within a story, and although this does not say it is based on a true story, I imagine that the events described are true.

Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez, this book was probably her steamiest yet. Only four main charachters, but its juicy and fun. Valdes-Rodriguez's book titles sound a bit raunchy but they aren't as wild as the titles are, but come quite close. I liked this book a lot, I read it in a small month and with all of Valdes-Rodriguez's books, couldn't bare to put it down when i'd get into it.

This books is a little boring and superficial for my tastes but I'm already on page 145 so must finish it off, maybe it will change my mind at the end. Now that I've finished it, I think the book was just way too long for the very thin plot it had. It became boring sections and found it brutally hard to finish. I won't be reading this again!

I haven't read anything else from this author and to be honest, didn't even know I owned this book. I found it hidden on my bookshelf...what a wonderful find. I loved all the characters and the story line was light without being fluffy. I enjoyed it all the way through and look forward to reading some more by this author.

I picked this up at random at the library--it sounded OK. Chick lit with a Hispanic flair. 3 Hispanic women in LA who develop a friendship and romances over the 1 year+ story development. I enjoyed it enough to try her other books. It was 13 CDs, but I never felt that is was getting too long and would hurry and end the story.

I really enjoyed this book. I found myself relating to each woman for one reason or another. I found myself relating more to Aleix. While I am not a republican, I found myself struggle with body image and self struggle as Alexis did. The men of this book portray the men many women have experienced or wish to have.

I loved this "Chick Flip"! I'm latina, so I could relate to most of the characters on some level. I found myself laughing out loud several times as I read this book. Yes it isn't as deep and provocative as some other titles, but it was an easy read and it definitely kept me entertained.
