This is the novel that introduced me to Alisa Valdes-Rodriguez and got me hooked on her chick-lit with a Hispanic twist books. Don't assume I'm prejudiced for pointing out the ethnicity either, as she makes it abundantly clear throughout the books that she is attempting to represent Hispanic culture, to greater or lesser degrees, in this book.
the book centers around several VERY different women, all of Hispanic origin, who live in the LA area, dealing with different issues. They eventually a...more

Ok, so I really really did like "Dirty Girls," but this book kept me on a roller coaster - I would be so disappointed by the see-through plot, the paperthin (literally and figuratively) characters, the money-centricity and the false LA lifestyles portrayed that I'd want to yank it out of my CD player and throw it out my car window...those days I wanted to give it 2 stars..or maybe 1..
But then the author would surprise me with an actual intelligent, real life issue that really rose ...more

I listened to the audio version of this book.
I liked that the three narrators were very different from really another other book I have read. This was narrated by three very different Latino women and I thought those perspectives made this book really interesting.
That said, this book was way long. Even compared to other unabridged books, this was 13 disk! Longer than any other audiobook I have read by 3 cds and honestly, I thought lots from this book could have been cut out. I think I st...more

I do enjoy A V-Rs books. I started with the "Dirty Girls Social Club", and suddenly, I had a whole different insight into Hispanic/Latina culture in the United States. I never thought about how rich and varied all the different cultures are that come to the States from the Spanish-speaking countries - Cuba, Mexico, Columbia. Nor did I realize how much I thought of them all as being similar. This is chick-lit that actually made me see Los Angeles differently - which makes it really good

I picked this up at random at the library--it sounded OK. Chick lit with a Hispanic flair. 3 Hispanic women in LA who develop a friendship and romances over the 1 year+ story development. I enjoyed it enough to try her other books. It was 13 CDs, but I never felt that is was getting too long and would hurry and end the story.

I loved this "Chick Flip"! I'm latina, so I could relate to most of the characters on some level. I found myself laughing out loud several times as I read this book. Yes it isn't as deep and provocative as some other titles, but it was an easy read and it definitely kept me entertained.

Liked it, but same review for Dirty Girls. Not my favorite quality of book. Quick read and interesting characters that keeps you interested in teh book and the story but not especially great. But I'd recommend it as a book to read for fun.

compared to dirty girls it falls a little short but it still is a great story, very witty and it touches on the more serious subjects not only having to do with hispanic culture but american and everyday culture.

Interesting novel with three distinct stories about three distinct Latinas. I enjoy learning about the trials of being a Latina. This novel focuses on the relationships between men and women. Fabulous story!

Love this book. It is the best Alisa Valdez-Rodoriguez book, it is her second one. It is a fun, fast read - perfect beach book. Like a pill wrapped in a twinkie, fun and trashy but with substantive themes.

I found Dirty Girls Social Club to be more fun and entertaining. With this book I felt as though the author kind of missed the boat a bit. Still fun to read but, better as a beach book.

I was surprised by this book because I bought it at the dollar store. It turned out to be a pretty good read and I was rushing to get to the end to see what would happen.

A fun, fiction novel; filled with drama, humor, and romance. Very cool plot twist! Lots of fun for the hip, young professional woman. I will re-read it.

This was a fun book to read. It was very easy to read. The latinas were funny, and I liked the fact that they did not represent the stereotypical latina.

I liked the book. It definitely had some hilarious moments and was very relate-able. However, I did think The Dirty Girls' Social Club was better.

Some of the resemblances in characters to stars we all know was disppointing for over all it was still an easy, fun, chick lit book.
