Note: I did not read this in Swedish (I wish!) but I see that the translation is not on this site. I borrowed it some years ago from the local library and read it and since then have been unable to find it anywhere to buy... Which is a REAL pity because since then I've wanted to re-read it many times.

I can't believe this writer is not more well known, his books are fantastic! What I particularly like about them - and something which I've rarely seen in other books, is how bland reality is 'infu

I ytterkanterna en gripande fattigdomsskildring med alkoholen som huvudperson. I mitten - det vill säga i större delen av boken - en outhärdligt tråkig, självbelåten och studentikos ung-man-mot-världen-historia. Så fort Tunström avbryter Johans berättarröst med riktig dialog och människoskildringar spricker boken upp och börjar lysa. Men när så många sidor består av denna karaktärs uppblåsta, ointressanta och långdragna tankegångar är det bara nätt och jämnt jag tar mig till slutet.

un'infanzia di miseria morale e materiale da cui si vuole uscire a ogni costo, la conoscenza che salva, i gesti disperati per un amore impossibile, i libri come via di fuga. ogni libro di tunstrom per me è una scoperta meravigliosa e inaspettata, un amore infinito (per parole, pagine, particolari).
