Crazy and ingenious . This story tells us how powerless we are in the hands of media sharks , if we spend most of our time watching the box .
Author described very well of our modern world .
As famous Aristotle once said that -"a human is a society animal," he was definitely right .
The author tells via protagonist how miserable our society made by commercial producers or any other masters of PR . They make our choices ,likes and dislikes , they tell you what car to buy , they show you how to dre...more

Bof.

No mames, ¡qué buen libro!

This is a dark take of how the Unique Selling Proposition (USP) could easily turn into the Evil Selling Proposition (ESP) in the advertising world, when the moral brakes are removed solely for the sake of profit.

Ironically, Octave Parango, the protagonist who describes the extreme agency experience does not adhere to the noblest principles and values himself. Nevertheless, 99 Francs or 9.99 Euro makes for an interesting read infused with warped humor and insights expressed by an ad man who tells...more

La verda...more

I have to re-read this book again.
This almost reads like a semi-autobiographical work of Frederic Beigbeder- ad man who was ostracized from the business after writing the book and is now living as a literary critic and writer. The novel recalls the dregs of an ad man while making this commercial and a life crashing down as a would-be dad for a pregnant girlfriend he or he may not have loved at all. Beigbeder’s prose is silly, otherwise acerbic and spouting this vile poison to the readers about...more

While I get what he is trying to say, I barely made myself finish this book. Some of the passages are so graphic I skipped over them altogether. The book is supposed to make you realize that you are a sheep, controlled by the admen, but you know what? Maybe I don't like to be told that I am a sheep. And maybe excessive use of the word "cocaine" is really not a necessary tactic to make me realize that the main character is a user. I read that the author himself recently got arrested for possessio...more

Zgrabi priliku i uživaj dok ide.

Bez da ulazim u lik i delo Begbedea ( jedna knjiga nije dovoljna). Daću šansu Francuskom romanu da mu...more

No matter how hard I tried, I could not finish this book. The vulgar tone of the author and his constant description of cocaine intake make it hard to absorb any marketing industry facts. I find it strange and sad that people would look up to the author like Beigbeder for advertising/marketing insights and are willing to absorb any bs that this author will spoon feed them. Furthermore, I do not understand why would I use this person as an industry reference when the only thing I know, it that hi...more

We a living in the world full of Brands. We know them, we live in them,we want to live like they are showing us. We want to eat "loving food", we want to wear snickers for "just do it", we want to eat chocolate which will help us "dont stop" and use some parfume for being more nice and handsome. They give us thoughts and we are making them ours. We want to live like ppl in the american films and use apples's gadgets just coz of design.
Do u think that it is stupid?

Sorprendente.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this book. Firstly I find it hard to see where the original French version might have featured, if at all? The characters really irritated me, and at times I just wondered what the hell the whole point of reading some jumped up wanker whittering on about how great he thinks he is! I mean come on!
Some interesting things did come to light though, such as the tyre that will never puncture, and Coca Cola etc, but on the whole, this just didn’t really float my boa...more

Je mets quand...more

You can buy everything even be, especially me. I love not only book, also that film was great. It is impossible to add something to this book, everybody will find there something special. Here in Russia many people compare this book with Generation P by V. Pilevin. They both about advertisment influence to nation, but Beigbeder was more romantic, and Peleven more down to earth. Beigbeder told + love story, Pelevin told former soviet union + story. So no need to compare.

A book that strips the glow off a world which is nothing but glitter - the advertising world. As a narrative technique, there is an emphasis on the visual and although there are no illustrations you are left with the feeling that you have just watched a series of short videos ( some more surrealistic than others) which express the main idea better than a hundred words. That is why I venture to say that the novel is prone to be turned into a movie.
Valentyna Zelena
He is annoying, frustrating, provocative and sometimes disgusting, but many of his ideas are unfortunately true. We all have price, all our choices are controlled, advertisement world is f**ked up, we get it. But gosh, over 200 pages of self-centered love, describing how cool am I, and how I hate the world I literally live in every day - it is too much. And towards the end it makes very little sense, though you may try to fish out some very meaningful insights.
Brandy

I would have rated this higher if the translation was better. It was not bad enough to ruin my enjoyment of the book, but close. For some odd reason the translator decided to switch the setting of the story from Paris to London creating some awkward passages. Despite this, I'd still would recommend it and when my skill level improves, I will re-read it in the original French.

Frederic Beigbeder's 99 Francs is a cynical and sad book. It will mostly be appreciated by the overworked savage slaves on the various food chains of the advertising - media - commercial arts industry. Reading the book provokes an anger management process. It works just as the boxing class at the gym, or the occasional craving for a certain punk tune on repeat. It induces a release of negative energy, a survival mechanism no doubt, for all creative bees out there.
Liudmila
Cruel satire.
The book is not only about marketing, advertising, fun, sex, drugs and Nirvana, it is also about love, obsession and possession. Many men know how to love, but don't know how to keep it.
After reading it I realised that I need to take life easier, just relax and enjoy your yoghurt.
Amilcar Olivares
Gran, gran libro!!!

He studied at the Lycée Montaigne and Louis-le-Grand, and later at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. Upon graduation at the at the age of 24, began work as an adverti...more
