I've read all 40 of Elmore Leonard's novels. He's that good. Swag is about two small time criminals who develops a set of rules for armed robbery and what happens to them when they deviate from them. My personal favorite Leonard novel, marking the first appearance of my favorite Leonard character, Earnest J. Stickley and the second appearance of my second favorite Leonard character, Frank Ryan. Great characters;pitch perfect dialogue; superbly plotted. A treat.

bookshelves:
crime,
funny
All of Dutch Leonard's early works outshine anything he ever wrote that later got turned into a movie, but this is one of the best crime books I've ever read. The scene of Frank and Stick in their apartment after having completed so many armed robberies where Frank says, "Well, here we are..." says it all about how awesome this book is. Quick and satisfying summer read for the pool.

Picked this up off of the paperback shelf at the library. I have enjoyed the movies based on Elmore Leonard books, thought I'd give it a try.
Turned out to be a pretty quick and simple crime book, couple guys doing all right but get in over their heads. Good afternoon read, but not much to think about here.

The first Elmore Leonard I read was a beat up copy that my buddy, Steve Root, gave me as a gift. These days Leonard's grit and amazing dialogue may seem passe, but before The Wire or Tarrentino there was Elmore Leonard. A descendant of the great noir writers like Hammet or Chandler.

I've read this book about 15 times. The copy I have has a vintage paperback cover with some pistols, a bottle of Jack Daniels and a paper grocery sack full of money and coins . . . this is how I hope to live my life someday . . .

the first of the ernest stickley, 'stick' series. the usual terrific characterizations and dialogue. a car heister and ex-con team up for armed robbery and things get out of hand.

Excellent crime yarn about a somewhat mismatched duo of holdup men. Tightly plotted, and of course topped off with Leonard's immense gift of language.

There is, apparently, both a right way and a wrong way to go about armed robbery. Learn them both in this well-plotted old Leonard classic.
