The Eye of the Storm was another interesting Bone. It was after the great cow race. I liked it because it was because I have a certain love for the bone series. It has a lot of action thrill and adventure inside of that little comic book. It is a very hilarious book and it is also quiet serious at some points of the story. Also I like the way the author or illustrator (I don’t know) draw the characters inside of the story. Also how they put random new characters in the story like the lord of the...more

If Bone, Vol. 2: The Great Cow Race was a little calmer, is that because Jeff Smith was preparing big things for vol. 3. Boy oh boy, I read this book in one sitting! The art is that gorgeous ink-over-paper I fell in love with back in Bone, Vol. 1: Out from Boneville — the kind you either adore or detest, there's no middle ground. I adore it.

Also, the adorable characters of Fone Bone, Smiley Bone, Thorn, Gran'ma Ben, Lucious, and yes even Phoney Bone, are back for a trully fantastic story. Thinks...more

Bone's saga strange mix of fantasy and poetic surrealism is at its peak in these stories. Fone Bone hopelessly loves Thorn, who in these chapters will learn excruciating truths about her past. The rat creatures are on the prowl (save the two local idiots) and Phoney Bone can't think better than casting doubt on the most valid defender against them...the Red Dragon. And this, only because of a foolish bet in which poor Lucius let himself be drawn.Harbingers of all these developments are strange d...more

By skimming and skipping (and re-skimming and re-skipping) around the complete Bone one-volume compilation, I think I've basically read the entire thing. I actually made sure to read "Eyes of the Storm" from start to finish, though, so I'll give a comprehensive review here.

After the events of "The Great Cow Race," the townsfolk of Barrelhaven are enraged with Phoney Bone and Smiley Bone, who almost snookered them into losing...more

Continuously referring to prior events and with little character explanation , Eyes of the Storm would not be easy to follow by readers who have missed the first two books.Blob-shaped, white, talking creatures and hayseed farmers who use eggs as currency tell the tale of attacking rodents, fierce storms and a dragon that wends his way into dreams. Jeff Smith has created a story that is part dark fairy tale and part slapstick comedy. In the third installment of the series, Fone Bone’s cousins tra...more

This is the third book in the nine book Bone series by Jeff Smith. A great addition to this series, I thought this was the best book yet.

The Bones are still in the valley trying to eke out a living. In the beginning of the story they are all helping Thorne and Gma rebuild their house. Smiley Bone and Phoney Bone eventually have to leave to settle their debts in town. A surprising secret is revealed about Thorne's identity and Fone Bone and her are plunged deeper into a strange quest.

I was unable to get the chance to read the first Bone book, so I skipped straight to the third book. It was a little hard to follow some of the topics they talked about but I slowly started to understand what was happening. I enjoyed reading this book a lot, it had some funny moments and also some very serious moments. I like the illustrations a lot, they were ver clear and made the book so much better. While I was reading this book I found it a bit weird how some random characters came in and o...more

Things aren't getting easier in the valley, in fact they are getting worse. Lucius, Smiley and Phoney are attacked while heading back to the tavern. The rat creatures almost got them, but thanks to some last minute thinking by Smiley, they made it out alive. Well, barely.
At the farm, Fone Bone and Thorn are troubled by strange dreams they've been having. They know the dreams mean something and Gran'ma isn't too happy with hearing about the dreams.

Gran'ma Ben tells Thorn and Fone Bone secrets tha...more

Things begin to heat up with this installment of the Bone series, as secrets of the past are revealed (with plenty more to spare). A little bit of light is shed on the villian who is after the Bone cousins, although it is still not known why he's after them. This was definitely the more serious volume of the three I've read so far, although there were still several laugh-out-loud moments, such as when Fone Bone finally gives Grandma Ben the map he found in the desert, only he mistakenly gives he...more

I really enjoyed reading Bone, I thought it was a very interesting and fun book to read. Three cousins Phoney bone, Fone bone and Smiley Bone are out on another adventure. Fone Bone really like Thorn who also lives in the village. The three cousins, Thorn, Gran'ma Ben, and Lucius all live on a farm. Thorn has never really known anything about her parents other then they died when she was young. In the start of the book...more

This picks up shortly after the end of the second volume and finds the bones helping Grandma repair her house after the rat raids, with Fone Bone still unable to express himself to Thorn and Phoney Bone still coming up with many an audacious plan to get them home. In this volume not only do we get to see Fone Bone in an adventure as Moby Bone (probably my favourite bit) but we find out a more about Thorn and why she now lives with Grandma and why she is so protective of her. The answers to which...more

The book Bone-Eyes of the Storm is about Phoney bone and Smiley bone working for Luscious. They are working for him because they have to pay off the accident they cause at the cow race. Since Phoney bone still wants to be rich they make a bet with Luscious. The bet was that who ever sells the most beer wins. If Phoney bone wins they own the restaurant and if Luscious wins Phoney bone and Smiley bone work for him forever. Nobody wants to buy anything from Phoney bone and Smiley bone so they make...more

THIS volume finally brought the oomph that I've been looking for in this series. It's a much slower volume in terms of action, because a lot of time is spent exposing some of the mysteries that the first two volumes brought up.

First off, I LOVE that we finally get to know Thorn's true identity. I won't give it away here because of spoilers, but it widened the scope of the story considerably. Her real identity is rather cliche and actually quite predictable but I lov...more

Reason for Reading: Next in the series.

Vol. 3 starts off with Fone Bone and Thorn having strange dreams and Phoney and Smiley settling down to life at the farm. Soon enough the latter two are taken back to the village to work off their debt to Lucius. The rat creatures are out after everybody as each party gets caught in a rain storm. Then Gran'ma Ben finally tells Thorn the real story of Thorn's life so far, the mysteries of her dreams and she is stunned. This is a major turning point in the pl...more

After completing the choirs around the house Smiley and Phoney leave the farm and go with Lucius to help in the bar. On the way to the bar, they make a deal (Phoney and Lucius) to see who can run the bar better. Of course Phoney does something sneaky and says he's a dragon slayer. And of course everyone believes him.

This series is so full of clichés, I find it hard to get into. I think the only character I like is Grandma - and her over-dramatization of everything is beginning to get tedious. I also find the humour in this series puerile and basic as it comes. It's pretty sad that my second favourite characters are the rat creatures.

That being said, for such a basic story, it's tightly plotted, and very well drawn. I liked this book slightly better than the goofiness of the last one, but it'll still be awh...more

There ware some bits that were suitably chilling, but this volume somehow lacks the epicness of the others - seemed to be more filler content, establishing backstories and setting the stage for greater and better things to come. The barn sequence was straight out of classic shock movies and later, into old-school fantasy swords-and-sorcery... had a brief moment of nostalgia when the fantasy storylines were so brilliantly pure, instead of being the Game Of Thrones mire most seem to be becoming th...more

This was a good book just like the other 2. I am now on the begining of the 4th book. So far this is a magnificent series. One of my favorite parts is when the hooded dude yells at Kingdok then he just gets completely owned by a bunch of grass-hoppers. That was a really good part, then Kingdok was just standing there smirking. But just like the others, i recomend this book to every other person that likes long-short books. I think this is really cool, because this book is a graphic novel. It's a...more

Bone: Volume #3 Eyes of the Storm finally gets around to revealing the big secret about Thorn's past and where she came from and why the Rat Creatures are after her. I kinda knew this was where the story was going so it wasn't that big of a reveal to me. This is still a great yarn, but for me, Volume #3 gets a lower rating because it seemed like there wasn't as much of Bone as in the two previous Volumes. A lot was spent on Thorn, Gran'ma and the rest in order to tell their story and set up what...more

This Bone book is when all the action starts up. Grama ben reveals her amazing secret to Thorn and Fone bone, Fone and Thorn both start having strange dreams at the same time, but the question that both of them have is that if this really is a coincidence.

Phoney Bone starts up another one of his "ideas" by agreeing to a bet with Lucius. The bet was that they would split Lucius' bar right down the middle and whoever turned a better profit won. If Phoney won, he didnt have to work at the bar at al...more

Bone is a suspenseful action book involving all sorts of things including dragons, mysterious bone creatures, hairy rat creatures, local villagers who use produce, livestock, and home goods as currency, and two farmwomen who are named rose and thorn. This book in my opinion is the fourth best Bone book out of the entire series, of course thats just my opinion. This is one of the longer Bone books because of how much being told. This has many more characters than the others before it because the...more
