This book is a graphic novel written by Jeff Smith that’s about three cousins who get lost from their home and keep getting into trouble. The three bones are at a town and need money to get back home to Boneville. The book starts out with Phoney Bone making a bet that he can sell more beer than his boss. If he wins the bet than Phoney can leave the town not owing his boss any money. He makes up a lie that the dragons are evil and will kill all the town members, so Phoney calls himself “The Drago

The fourth in it's series, written by Jeff Smith, is a story of three brothers who go through a great ordeal of adventures as they try to survive in the valley. The main characters in this graphic novel are Phoney Bone, Smiley Bone, Thorn, The Hooded One, and Fone Bone. The setting takes place in the valley, and The perspective swaps from the Bone brothers and thorn to the Hooded One and the lord of the locusts. Basically in this novel, Phoney Bone comes up with another scheme to hoard the few

This is the fourth Bone in the series. This is continued from the third bone, Eyes Of The Storm. Phoney and Smiley bone are still lying about that they are dragonslayers at Luscious Tavern. Fone bone, Thorn, and Grandma Ben are in the forest battling rat creatures. Will Thorn, Foney Bone, and grandma escape the forest alive? Will Phoney and Smiley win the bet?....

Reason for Reading: next in the series.
This volume was fabulous! Maybe part of my sheer enjoyment was due to the little break I took between books 1-3 and this one. (I'm trying not to rush through them "too" fast) But while the break may have refreshed my zeal for these characters, this was still a top-notch story. Things turn quite dark in this volume as we finally meet the bad guy and see him surrounded by his minions. He wears a costume that hides his actual identity a More...

I got back to Bone today; this time I read Volume 4. It does not disappoint. I really love this series. Fone Bone is wonderful and his devotion to Thorn makes me smile. However, I must agree with Smiley Bone that Moby Dick is a great tonic for sleeplessness. Sorry about that, Fone.
I read this volume in the original black and white. Previously, I had only read the newer color versions. You are right, Brent, black and white is far superior. It really conveys the slightly ominous tone t More...

Bone 4 the dragonslayer continues from the the 3hird book. Because of a bet that Smily and fone bone made with Lucas on if Phony and smilly could run the tavern better than Lucass did. LUcas had split the tavern in two and gave one half to phony and smilly. If they lost the bet they would be in debt for life. Desperatly trying to avoid a lifetime of slavery Phoony bone tells everyone who enterns the tavern that Dragons want to invade the town and that hes a dragon slayer. Ublelivibly the to

I learned that lying is not very good because getting out of this lie is hard. This is a very good book because it talks about friendship. This is very good because they have to save the villagers from a "scary," dragon. The characters are Fone Bone, Phoney Bone, Smiley Bone, Thorn, Lucius, and more. The book is interesting because someone wants to get rid of the villagers and wants to kill the Bones. The Bones were supposed to go back to Boneville ,but Phoney Bone messed up and could n

This is the 4th book in the nine book Bone graphic novel series by Jeff Smith. It was a spectacular addition to the series and probably the darkest book yet. The story really deepens and the danger for our beloved characters really takes on an urgency.

In this fourth volume of Bone, the bones are cooking up a scheme to make a lot of money. They are telling people that they are dragon slayers (the people assuming that dragons are dangerous, when in reality they are not) and they they are offering their protection. But when evil forces combine behind the Lord of the Locusts, the Bones may have gotten everyone into big trouble. Their fate lies in the hands of a girl and her ability to accept her fate as a princess, and give in to "The Turnin

This is the continuation of the third book eyes of the storm. In this book Phoney Bone is trying to make a quick buck, or a lot of bucks because he has been lying to the entire town making them believe dragons are dangerous creatures, when the truth is they are actually very peaceful. While Fone Bone, Thorn, and Rose are traveling through the woods, they run into two rat creatures. Since Rose got the gitchy feeling, which is a feeling that something terrible will happen, she cant fight them b

I think I'd read all of the sub-arcs here as individual comics (which means I guess I forgot Thorn was a princess, rather than not knowing - but I didn't have the background on that knowledge, anyway).
Good stuff still. I like the fact that, despite his general douchiness, Phoney obviously cares about his cousins - when Smiley hears Fone Bone shouting for help, Phoney vaults over the bar and runs out into the woods to help search for him. Aw. (Why is it that these things are cuter wh More...

The Dragonslayer from Jeff Smith was a good book to read. I have always been fascinated by comic books and this book looks similar to a comic book. I have read Eyes of the Storm which was the previews book of The Dragonslayer. I liked it and was curious to read the next one but i didn't have it. This books stop and continue on a different volume and i wanted to keep on reading it.

Fone Bone may be the main character, but in my eyes the real star of the series is Phoney Bone, and in Bone: The Dragonslayer (Volume 4), he takes center stage. In a bit right out of I Love Lucy, Phoney Bone and Lucius split the Tavern right down the middle to see who can win the bet of selling the most beer. If you have seen the Lucy episode in question, you should know that hilarity ensues.

I thought Bone: The Dragonslayer was an awesome book. Fone Bone’s cousin Phoney Bone becomes town leader because he says he’s a dragonslayer, while Fone Bone tries to help Thorn figure out why her dreams are becoming more realistic. The Dragonslayer is a pretty good book and it’s easy to understand if you read the other books in the series first. I liked this book because it kind of explains what happened in the previous book in the beginning and the author shows what the characters are really l

Volume 4 of this series is probably not the best introduction for me since there's already been quite the history to these characters. For those who've been following, I'm sure all the discoveries about Thorn and Grandma Ben were exciting as was the further development of the evil Locusts. For me, it was a simple tale in a typical kind of DnD adventure. Nothing new, just a simple adventure. I initially thought to make my kids read it, but after an early scene with the severing of the Rat Creatur

Bone series, book four.
Okay, after this one, I'm hooked. The plot deepens considerably as war approaches and we find out a great deal more about Thorn and Gran'ma (Rose). Phoney's latest scheme (representing himself as a dragonslayer who will protect the townsfolk from dragons) may just end up doing some real harm.
Thorn is not happy to find out her true identity and blames Rose for not telling her the truth sooner. A side plot with a baby rat monster takes Fone and Sm More...

This graphic novels packs a punch. At first glance you wonder what could be included in these pictures, but a whole story (dilemmas and all) are included. This was the 4th installment in this series. I will admit I had not read the first three and found that it would be helpful although not essential to understanding this book. Its like seeing a sitcom episode...you could always understand more about the characters the more experience you have with them. This is a book packed with humor and

This book is when the rat creatures plan an attack on the innocent village of Barrelhaven. Fone and Smiley Bone found a rat cub and hid it in the barn. Then they went into the dark forest to realease it to it's home but smiley went to far and possibly got lost.
Meanwhile Phoney Bone is tricking the townspeople AGAIN by convincing them that all the trouble caused by the rat creatures is really caused by the dragons and that he is a dragon slayer. Of course, this backfires on Phoney More...

This is the fourth book --in a series of nine-- about three cousins from Boneville who are forced to leave town due to debt. Their adventures begin almost immediately and eventually they settle in a valley filled with mythological creatures such as dragons and enormous rat creatures. The continuous moral conflict between the three cousins and their interaction with the inhabitants of the valley make for great adventure. The books has serious parts but also humor. I highly recommend this seri

Dear news paper,
What is happening to the Mexicans is terrible. They are being abused and mistreated. One of the Mexicans said that they feel as if they are being treated like dogs. When I was watching that film I got aggregated when I saw that lady Margaret. The way she spoke made me think what if I was one of the Mexicans or the “Aliens” as everyone called them. If I was a Mexican I would feel very bad and I would want to slap the protestors. They More...

Reprints Bone #20-27. The Bones find a Rat Creature cub, Thorn learns more about her destiny, and Phoney continues his plans to rob the people of Barrelhaven by posing as a dragonslayer. At this point in the Bone series, the initial momentum begins to lose speed. The story becomes very plot driven and a lot of the fun is sidelined as a result. It isn't the worse collection in the series, but it is important in understanding later books.

Loved this volume! Shit is hitting the fan - the "Hairy Men", aka the Rat Creatures, are amassing to attack the humans of the valley. Meanwhile, Phoney Bone is whipping the townspeople of Barrellhaven into an anti-dragon frenzy, as part of a scheme to steal their riches and escape back to Boneville. I love the pacing of this series - it starts off well, and never lets up with either humor, action, or intrigue. I'm shocked they never turned this series into a movie or television sho

I thought it was a funny book to read and it was full of adventure
and the characters were well full of character and they manage to make it both funny and action into one and it right away makes sense, the first page you read it and takes you to different characters story line so you dont get stuck with just one person for the whole story
and the last thing is that the artist did a good job on the art.

The Dragonslayer is the fourth installment of the Bone series by Jeff Smith. By this volume I was well and truly hooked. I went through a weekend reading the remainder of the series except for volumes 5 and 9 which weren't available at my library.
