Tapestry is carried into the 1920's and 30's, where once again we meet Paul Werner and his family. Paul is married to Marian; and now they are suffering a painful loss of the stillborn child and consequences that leaves Marian in a barren state, never to conceive again.
Paul's aunt Hennie's husband, Dan, is put in jail for his reform ideas. Only a bootlegger, Donal Powers, can get Dan released. How this was done was kept hush hush.

I love to read books by Belva Plain for her character descriptions make me feel like I know the people, yet she doesn't drag them on and on. This is a story about a Jewish business man and his family during the years just prior to World War II and the changes in Europe and at home that give indications that a war is on the horizon. It also is a story of his loves and emotions that he experiences as he goes through life and the impact that not having children has on both he and his wife.
a book from the past...picked up at a friends of the library sale and enjoyed it. an easy read about a NY family in the 1920-40 period told from a mans point of view. i used to read a lot of her books so this was a nice treat
This book starts out in the roaring twenties and ends at the end of World War II and is told from the viewpoint of an American Jewish banker. It is interesting to see events in American history from a Jewish perspective.
Tapestry is a nice family saga set between the two World Wars. Yes, it is predictable, but makes a good book to read for leisure. I was ready for just such a read.
This was a good book; I enjoyed it. It's set in time period just following WWI and including WWII - a period in history that I find interesting.
Her usual story of immigrant family in NYC and rise and fall of various family memebers. Good read for vacation.
good book
Part of the Werner saga that began with Evergreen.
This was an interesting tale of the Jewish plight during Hitler's reign from the point of view of a Jewish family in America. It was more than that, though. It was a very good tale of a family with their own personal secrets and dramas.
Another good book from Belva Plain but not my favorite. She again does a good job of creating shades of gray in the characters but the main story wasn't as compelling as in The Golden Cup
This is one my first favorite books. I think I read it 3 times in a row and that was years ago. Just thinking about it now, I want to read it over again.
The saga of the Werner family continues in this novel set during World War II. Belva Plain is a master storyteller whose characters are long remembered.
Another enjoyable read by this incredible author.
