Troy and Jason have been best friends forever -- or at least since first grade. Lately, though, Troy wants more. A drunken make-out session makes him think Jason might want more, too, but Troy is afraid to push things for fear of ruining their friendship.

This is one of those short stories which made me wish for a sequel. Luckily, there is one. This first installment kicks off the process of how two men who have been best friends for years (both gay, but never lovers) finally manage to figure out there is more to their friendship than meets the eye.

Friends to lovers story here, not completely satisfactory or believable.

The story itself is rather sweet -- friends since childhood, openly gay at least with each other, and supportive in a hands off kind of way, Troy and Jason live rather ordinary young men's lives, Jason as a mechanic who also welds sculpture he lacks confidence to market, and Troy as a bartender whose casual encounters never include Jason. Review: This sassy little short is a real treat, assuming you take to the main characters’ voices, like I did :).

Review for Brief Encounters Reviews:

The reader is thrown straight into the partnership, best friends since school, fiercely protective of each other, completely relaxed in each other’s company. This is a nice best-friends-turn-lovers story. What I like from this is the characters seem to be 'real' because they deal with the real-life economic situation. Many mm stories are about nobility who never have to work hard (whether they wear britches or jeans doesn't matter).
