Muller's heart is in the right place, unfortunately this book contains just as much wrong information, or perhaps even more incorrect information, than good useful information. I am currently studying human development, families, and addiction in college, and I am also a 21 year old youth minister. I can speak with authority when I make this claim. I do not mean to sound arrogant, but much of the research Muller points to is both biased, and 10 or more years out of date. His anecdotal evidence i ...more

A wonderful read on youth and issues surrounding their world and how they see their walk in the Christian faith of today. Every adult leader of children should read this to really know their teenagers. Parents welcome.

Mueller is the guy that watches youth culture so I can pay attention to other things. Thanks, Walt. This book is targeted more at parents and is useful in helping them understand the world of their teenagers and how to build kids who are not eaten alive by some of the traps. That said, Walt's research is pretty dated. Unfortunately, a book like this has a short shelf-life and Mueller started out with lots of research that was over 10 years old. Youth culture is changing rapidly and, while this i ...more

I think this book is directed much more at parents than youth workers, or at least youth workers who are much further removed (in time and knowledge) from being 'youth'. While very comprehensive, it was very slow reading as it is very sterile and full of statistics which you barely remember a page later. I'm sure if is of use to someone, but I personally didn't find much new to come of it.

Terribly dated and not helpful for those who are even slightly aware of youth culture. Maybe this would be good for someone who is not acquainted with American culture at all and is coming over here as a missionary.

Jim Byrne, director of youth at my church, recommended this book last fall. I've been reading a snippet here and there...it's a pretty good one.
