This is better than his other work on London, Spectacular Vernacular, in that at least the places he talks about are (almost all) accessible to the public. I had only minimal interest in a description of the glories of the interior of a building I can never visit.

However, this book suffers from the same main drawback as the other. It is full of photographs without captions. It was generally possible to work out what it was a photo of from the text on the adjoining pages, but only about 2/3 of t

I'm fascinated by the history of London & love discovering it by walking, so I had high hopes of this book whih covers "The Secret alleys, courts & yards of London's Square Mile." It does have some intriguing facts and information, and I really enjoyed browsing, but actually using the book for exploration is made difficult by the fact that there is no map (which I'd have expected in a book priced at £19.99).
