I absolutely loved this book! As stated on the cover, it was so real and heartwarming.
I admit I was tempted to put down this book a couple of times. It started out very slow, and the author of course had to introduce the different characters separately. And because there are basically 3 groups of main characters here, it took a while and I started to get bored. I prefer books that start with most of the characters already knowing each other and then slowly building up their history along the way...more

In this chick-lit book, dogs played a much bigger part then some of the stories I have read recently. In this book, a women in her late 30's is in the middle of the life crisis when her aunt dies leaving her the sort of farm she has lived and owned for most of her life. It's outside of London and it mainly runs like a dog rescue, of which there is little to no money in. The Girl has to decide weather to sell the land (worth a lot) to pay off the debts of her aunt or try to figure out a way to sa...more
Reading this book has enlighten me about unconditional love. Love is not just between two persons who have mutual feeling for each other but it could happened with everything. As long as both parties have mutual feeling then love is there ;)

Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts is the first book I have read by Lucy Dillon. I was given this book to read by a client and on first glimpse I liked the look of the book, girly pink and white with glitter snow balls on the front. It looks like your typical chic lit book and then came the title of the book and this put me off. I am not really what you would call your typical animal lover and I would defiantly not put a book about dogs on the top of my to read list. All this aside I had run out of boo...more

Ah, angst. When women are stressed out and dealing with emotional life changing events, they tend to worry themselves to no end. For a book with dogs in the title and two canines gracing the cover, this comes as a bit of a surprise to those expecting a warm and fuzzy read. With the introduction to an American audience of her UK release "Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts," author Lucy Dillon is hoping to connect with readers who fell in love with uber-successful, pet-themed novels like "Marley & Me...more
Rachel is a bit horrified when she finds out that her Aunt Dot has died and left her entire estate to her. Dot’s legacy is a boarding kennels in the middle of nowhere, a huge house and a lot of debts to go with it, and Rachel doesn’t much fancy moving and becoming at one with the dogs and their owners. However, when she arrives, she finds the people are nice folk with hearts of gold, and that the dogs quickly grow on you as well. Rachel soon begins to make friends with George, the dishy local ve...more
Could a book be any more charming and feel-good? Set in a cozy small town in England? Check. Featuring lovable puppies and dogs at a rescue kennel? Check. Witty dialogue with British lingo? Check. And best of all, a cast of likeable characters facing realistic problems that will resonate with many readers. Check, check.

This is one really sweet and readable story, so 4 stars from me. Just for the record I'm not chick-lit fan at all, so when I give it 4 stars it's really good. Besides I'm dog-lover so I couldn't give it any less. I guess people who like sweet, chick-lit stories will love this one.

I L.O.V.E. this book!!! It's cute, it's quirky, it's funny, it's real; it's the kind of book that tugs at your heartstrings and with all the D.O.G.S. involve, it's just plain amazing!
First character we meet is Rachel. She just inherited her Aunt Dot's estate where a kennel is included along with rescued dogs. She just got out from a bad relationship and lost her job at the same time.

No one can have enough friends, whether they be four legged or two, and Rachel’s character is in desperate need of both kinds. It is easy to believe people without kids or pets are either selfish or self-centered, but this story just goes to show that independence is not always a choice. I really love how this author shows you both sides this issue, and though much of her story centers around re-homing dogs, she is also quick to point out that some people are not ready for one reason or another....more

Recommends it for:
No one, sadly.
Woman goes to take over dead aunt's dog rescue legacy, woman meets dog, woman meets vet. Lost Dogs and Lonely Hearts is well-written and incredibly predictable - which isn't terrible, in a book that is meant to be tear-jerkingly heartwarming. People who like dogs and love stories will inevitably enjoy this.
However, the nature of the mystery at the core of the book -- why her aunt lived as she did -- makes me see red. (view spoiler)...more

I'm a sucker for a good dog book and Lucy Dillon's didn't disappoint. I thoroughly enjoyed this story about a 39-year-old woman, Rachel, who inherits a rescue kennel in England just after losing her job and undergoing a break-up. I had never read any of Lucy Dillon's books before but I enjoyed her style of writing. She is very good at drawing readers into a well-developed plot and creating likeable characters that readers can bond with. Add romance, a kennel full of rescue dogs searching for the...more
Além disso Lucy Dillon...more

NOT a book I would read under normal circumstances, but I ran out of Kindle battery on my hiking trip, and this book was the best pic in the hut's little stash of take/leave books. Just the sticker on the front of the book which reveals that the book is the winner of the 2010 Pure Passion Award will clue you in to the fact that this isn't my typical genre, in case the pink cover and metallic pink type hadn't given that away already.
However, the book is not nearly as bad as expected. Decently if...more

This is a feel good story about second chances, for both humans and canines, with an uncomplicated writing style that allowed me to focus on the characters, most of whom I came to like and found myself rooting for. I liked the way the author gave Rachel and Natalie the opposite situation to have to deal with, but left them to find a friendship between them, and I really liked the last sentence with Gem. Having volunteered at a no-kill shelter, and appreciating how hard the staff worked to find r...more

Dogs and broken hearts go together like chocolate and peanut butter! This story was such a heartfelt read and I really adored the premise of how the unconditional love from a dog can help heal a wounded human. You all know that I love stories that take place in England and once again I was not disappointed by the quaint town and lovely people that the author created. This book encounters three (eventual) couples living in a city, and follows their lives and experiences with pets and human relationships.
Pros: Heartwarming, cute, and an easy and quick read.
Cons: Predictable. This book isn't different from any other romance/pet book you've ever read. Problems-get a dog- happy resolution. Its was a little difficult to get used to the chapters jumping from couple to couple; Once you become invested in one couple, the next chapter jumps to another, which is a litt...more

This is another book that has had mixed reviews. The story of Rachel who inherited her aunt's house and rescue kennels. There are separate but connected stories about other characters - Natalie and Johnny who are desperate for a baby, Zoe whose husband has left her for another woman, Bill a confirmed batchelor and then the handsome vet! Through in a few dogs and some romance and you've got a great book. Ok it is a bit predictable, you can tell the ending probably right from the beginning but the...more
I'd seen so many people liked this, I really wanted to love it. It was okay. I feel mean giving it 2 stars but it just didn't do it for me. Not enough depth to the characters somehow. I didn't care enough what happened to them. I expect books that have made it to the big print houses to offer something special but I didn't feel it with this one. I saw one reviewer compared it to Julia Williams books and i should have read that first. This is very similar indeed and I'm afraid I'm not keen on tho...more
I love British chick lit...but don't be fooled, this is NOT (as the back of the book claims) another Bridget Jones Diary! Cute...and about failed love? Yes....but laugh out loud funny? NO.

I am a dog lover, so the title attracted me instantly.
The book talks about a dog rescue and re-homing place and does a wonderful job of it. I loved reading about the various breeds of dogs and their behaviour and how they are paired up with new owners rather how they select their owners. The interview with the author at the end of the book was an interesting reading.
I must admit that I could relate and enjoy a lot the Lost Dog part of the book, the Lonely Hearts part made an average reading.

I chose to read this book because I love dogs and I thought this would mostly be about dogs and theire destinies.. It started well but in the middel I feelt like it was a Kinsella novel and to my suprice it concentrated on..Children! 3 different women.

2. waaaants children sooo much but cant get pregnet and is obsessed about getting pregnet.

It's always great when an abandoned dog finds a new loving home.
What I didn't like in this book was the idea that you're gonna love this dog if you just take it. It's the same as "you're gonna love this food, just give it a try" or "you're gonna love him, I'm sure, just get being his girlfriend". It tries to tell that people couldn't choose themselves what they like and what they are capable of handeling but others would have to tell them or worse - force them to take something (at first) unwant...more

I enjoyed the book over all but one thing drove me nuts... the people kept acting like you can't leave a dog alone. It's a dog not a child! I am a dog lover and have trained, groomed and shown dogs in agility. You can leave your dog in the house for a few hours and they will be fine. According to this book you have to quit your job or take your dog to work with you. Other then that I liked the book.
