I AM SO DISAPPOINTED.

Okay, forget that. Disappointed doesn't even cover it. If I ever got the chance to meet the author, I'd say, "Really? You just had to end the book like that, didn't you? Leaving the reader hanging like that?"

Although I'll admit that I'm not too big on reading sports (particularly wresting) stories, I thought this was a pretty good book. It shows the determination of an athlete and how competitive sports are, no matter what level you're at. You'll do anything to win the game...more

I AM SO FREAKING MAD RIGHT NOW!

Okay, enough all caps. But seriously, I am mad. I was gifted this audiobook by SYNC during the summer. It isn't a story subject I would normally find interesting nor would I choose to spend my time reading/listening to, but it was free and I did find it interesting. The character conflicts are what kept me in this book. So, I should be happy, right? I mean, I got to see the characters grow, overcome their difficulties, and make it to the thing they'd both focused o...more

Another read for Battle of the Books completed. Books about sports are not typically my thing, but I liked the approach that this book took with it. It is about two guys who come from two different backgrounds but both in New Jersey and desiring to win the state championship for wrestling. While I could not relate as well to these characters because I'm not very competitive by nature, the shifting point-of-view allowed me to enter each boy's world to better understand where he was coming from. I...more

This is an wonderful book if you would like to read about two teenage boys pursuing their dreams through wrestling. This book happens all over New Jersey as Bobby and Ivan wrestle to try to be state champion match winner which is in Jadwin high school. This is a realistic fiction sports book that is very good. Bobby is a high school senior on the wrestling team with his parents getting a divorce and has a little brother. Ivan is a high school senior on a different wrestling team with his mom dea...more

Here's another book for Battle of the Books read. It's about two high school seniors both living in New Jersey as they go through their wrestling seasons with the goal of being state champion.

I did like that the point-of-view switched each chapter to see life during this same period from two different perspectives. One is from a poorer, immigrant family and at a school with a team that is used to losing. He's also still dealing with the recent death of his mother. The other is from a richer sett...more

My good read was Pinned
It was about two team captain wrestler named Bobby Zane and Ivan Korske that are trying to become state champions, but they have to go through painful things. Bobby Zane is team captain of Millburn high school. He has a girlfriend that thinks that gets pregnant. Ivan Korske is team captain of a team that has been losing for four seasons, and his mother died. He wants to get out of his town, and go to Arizona college to become a wrestler. Along the way he almost kills one o...more

The book was decent. It was kind of stale and drug out at points. And i think the author didnt really let you bond with the charecters. The plot was average. I think it woul be incredibly challenging for someone with no wrestling backround or concept to understand a large portion of the book. I think that the end was very unsatisfying, becous the entire book builds the suspense and pressure and then it seems as if there is no real climax. The book ends with a cliffhanger wich is ok in some cases...more

I accidentally read this book.

Is that possible?
Yes.
Why yes it is.
Here's how it happened: I picked it up off of my ENG 420 class bookshelf to just complete an assignment to "get a feel for YA literature." I scoffed at this book because it's about high school wrestling. It's a BOY BOOK. Sure to be un-engaging and dull for me, a twenty-something undergrad who doesn't like wrestling. Well, I read the first few pages right there in class and was too intrigued to just put it back on the shelf and mov...more

The book Pinned by Alfred C. Martino is a compelling story of will and determination about two high school wrestlers. The theme of this story is never give up. The setting is in a town in Minnesota. These two young men train for the whole year up until there match in the state championship; being tied for the first seat, this match will determine the best.

I listened to the audiobook in honor of the Olympics. I really enjoyed the story line. It reminded me of the movie Visionquest. However, I hated the ending. HATED! I really wish the author didn't end the book like he did. But overall a very good book.

This is not a genre I usually enjoy, but I did. It was a good, well written book. I was invested in the characters, in the ending. And tha is when i grew frustrated. I was so thoroughly disappointed by the way the book ended.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this book to begin with, but was quickly sucked into the story. It's hard to imagine what wrestlers go through, even when you've seen some of it yourself like I have. This was a great realistic story with dynamic characters.
Melinda
I enjoyed this book even though I don't know much about wrestling. I think it would be a great book for reluctant readers who have an interest in athletics.

I discovered a 6th grade student reading this. Not appropriate for him, but I enjoyed it. It has a strong message for older teens.
Patti Barnes
I think the main reason I gave this book 3 stars was because my son is wrestling for the first time. The plot was predictable.

Will appeal to high school wrestlers. An expected and unsatisfying ending.

good sports read. two high school wrestlers from very different homes and backgrounds, in different towns, will end up facing each other non the mat...no spoiler there, you know it's inevitable from the beginning of the book. its what happens between the beginning and when they meet that makes up the story - how they wrestle, not just on the mat, but in their own lives, and with all the things that life has a way of throwing at people.
i didn't understnad all the wrestling jargon, but still enjo...more

If you like sports books than this is a book for you. It's one of those books that makes you want to keep reading. It start out as twoyoung men in high school. One is from a rich family and his schools wrestling team is very good and the boy is from a very poor family and his mom also just died. Through the story both boys experiance hardships and the trouble of wrestling at a high school varsity level. At the end of the book the two boys wrestle against each other in the state finals tounament....more

this is the best wrestling books ever

This book had a great beginning when it starts out when two of New Jersey's best wrestlers compete in wrestling tournaments. These two wrestlers names are Bobby and Ivan and they both have a goal and that is get frist place in states. But the bad part of the book is the ending. The ending is a cliff hanger. But I am not going to tell why it has a cliff hanger ending.

I did not expect to like this book before I read it. I kept putting it aside and reading others. When I finally got to it, I enjoyed it a lot. I didn't feel as though I were just reading about sports, which was my assumption before hand. I cared about the characters and their lives.
Tyler Hoffman
This was one of the Best books ive ever read. It accurately captures the physical and emotional demands of this sport. Explains the intensity necessary to be champion. It explains all the preparation and training to make it to the top. Very good book.
Jen
I really liked this book and was wondering how the final event would turn out....not what I was expecting at all. I would have rated this higher but I felt the ending was a very big let down!
