Remember the discussion thread on Amazon several months ago where the boardies discussed their favorite lines in a book? Now I finally understand the popular line ... "I'm not holding you against your will; I'm holding you against your car."
This book was full of verbal sparring between Jaine Bright and her neighbor, Detective Sam Donovan, that was downright hilarious at times. Jaine first meets Sam when she accidentally backs over his metal garbage can with her new Viper....more

This book is worth more a 3.5 than a 3 star rating. There isn’t much romance, there’s too much focus on the stereotypical complicity between the 4 friends and what happens is a little too over the top. The writing is very good though.
The h/h ‘s relationship is very hard to believe and there’s virtually no sexual tension or lead up to their “love affair”. They’re barely together throughout the story so it’s hard to get a feeling for them as a couple let alone believ...more

For fun, Jaine and her three friends at work wrote up a list of qualities for the perfect man. The list went public by accident and gained them a lot of notoriety, especially because some of the list items had to do with looks, size and stamina. Then someone starts killing them off and Jaine has to rely on her cop neighbor (who is also her new boyfriend) to keep her alive.

4 ½ stars – Romantic Suspense
I love the line, "The wheel's still going around, but her hamster's dead".
I love this verbal sparring scene between the H/H, (page 18):
"I haven't had any sleep, any breakfast, or any coffee. I'd better leave before I hurt you." He nodded. "That's a good idea. I'd hate to have to arrest you." She stared at him, taken aback. "What?" "I'm a cop," he said, then turned and walke...more

Ah, Linda Howard, an author I can always count on to entertain me. This was not only a fun read but had some well written female relationships. The mystery and identity of the killer wasn't too difficult to figure out so if you're looking for real mystery, this isn't it. Jaine and her friends added a different dimension to the story. I liked interactions between the women and seeing how they pulled together during a crisis. I wouldn't say the romance was in the forefront, more of a fairly even d...more

Fast-paced, fun, and sexy. Jaine is spunky, swears a blue streak, and in her 30's with a decent office job. Not your typical heroine, nor is Sam, her love interest, the typical Prince Charming. Short-tempered and rather blunt, their first meeting (and subsequent clashes) are extremely fun to read about.
The mystery/detective element is not as strong as I was led to think by the blurb, but it's there, and the creepy madness of the killer is constantly present and threatening in the nov...more

Indira Iljasrecommends it for: para pencari "A Perfect Man".
Dibeli di Library Expo 2009 atas saran Indira.
Terima kasih Indira, memang mantep bukunya ... lumayan cukup hot "adegan"nya.

Surprise who the killer is. Good characters. I enjoyed this one.
What would make the perfect man?
That's the deliciously racy topic that Jaine Bright and her three girlfriends are pondering one night at their favorite after-hours of spot: Mr. Perfect. Would he be tall, dark, and handsome? Caring and warmhearted--or will just muscular do? As their conversation heats up, they concoct a tongue-in-cheek checklist that becomes an overnight sensation, spreading like wildfire a...more

This was a chilling and suspenseful read that kept me turning page after page after page. Then, I was disappointed, but not because of the book, but because it ENDED!!
From back cover:

The main character, Jaine really got on my nerves. I finished it, but I felt the bad guy could have been more thoroughly developed and would have come off more chilling if the author included more backstory and more insight into "his" mother's punishments. I was surprised that I didn't really like the leading man in this book - the other books I've read by Linda Howard have contained some of my favorite heros to date. When I was halfway through the book, I had just about had it with al...more

This was an odd read for me, my first from this author and picked up because of how often it is cited as favorite by other readers. On the one hand, I really enjoyed the relationship between the protagonists - original and funny. On the other, the suspense element didn't work for me at all - anyone who is familiar with The Extremely Famous Movie (can't say any more since it is so deeply ingrained in popular culture that it gives the book's twist away) knows what is happening very early on. Al...more

Linda Howard makes a good match to Garwood as she also changed from a Romance novelist to one of the most popular Romantic Suspense writers. While Howard is more gritty than Garwood and spends more time describing the details of death, her books hold lots in common with Garwood. As they were both once Romance novelists, they share the ability to craft a nice love story even if it is set in a scary situation. Readers also appreciate their skills in developing well drawn characters and witty fast-...more

I enjoyed this book immensely and I can see why several of my friends gave it such high ratings. The romance between Jaine and Sam happened in a fast and furious fashion and for me it felt almost as if it were a secondary part of the plot. The problem with knowing there's going to be a murder before I even start reading (it was on the back cover blurb!) is that that is what I focus on and I'm looking for the identity of the killer from the very beginning. I look at each character introduced and ...more

Wow, wow, wow. I heard alot of hype about this one and told myself that it will be the next Linda Howard book I read. Read it in a few days :)
Really, it was hilarious and sexy as well as intense and creepy.
Hilarious because right from the first introduction to Jaine I was laughing. Jaine (the lead heroine) believes her inconsiderate and unshaven neighbour is a drug addict/alcoholic with an attitude. They argue and yell at each other (at times I was laughing out loud) and then, badd...more

I read Mr Perfect a few years ago and just finished my second reading yesterday. It not only remains one of my favorite romantic suspense books of all time but Linda Howard shows everyone else how to balance romance and suspense in Mr Perfect.
This isn't a perfect romance, as many have said, but in my case it is only because I would have made the heroine with Luna's personality and Jaine, the victim instead. Marci, I did not miss. I found Jaine a little too much like a heroine out of ...more

When four friends get to together to come up with a list of criteria for the perfect man, they have no idea the trouble that their joke will create. Jane Bright, their fearless leader, is a single woman who has just bought her own home. Marci, the seductress, is the Samantha from Sex and the City type--older than the other girls and with a much younger boyfriend to boot. Then there's Luna, the queen of political incorrectness, who is dating a philandering football player. And finally, T.J., the ...more

I loved this book! The verbal sparring between the characters had me laughing out loud. And, the sex scenes weren't too shabby either. :)~
