This book of folklore is meant for children ages 4-8. This book contains many fairy tales that I was already familiar with, such as "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty," and "Snow White." It also includes ones that were new to me, such as "The Brave Little Tailor" and "The Fisherman and his Wife." To be clear, these are not the original fairy tales as told by the Brothers Grimm. These are, instead, much sanitized versions. I don't necessarily have a problem with that, as I don't feel that children re ...more

The book "Tales from the Brothers Grimm: A Classic Illustration Edition by Cooper Edens is a Folk Lore intended for ages 6-12.

This book is filled with retold fork lore that has been around for over a hundred years. The art work was from the late 1800's and the early 1900's. I gave this book 4 stars because of the illustrations and the old familiar stories of Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Hansel and Gretal, Etc. What's so brilliant about this particular edition of the Grimm's stories is that each story is illustrated with drawings from a variety of classic texts. So "Cinderella" might have pictures from various editions of that tale that were published over 100 years! The pictures are gorgeous, but the stories, as is typical of contemporary Grimm's collections aimed at children, have been watered down. Originally, these were bloody, gruesome tales.

Traditional stories compiled in one book! Told from a more accurate, yet manegeable perspective on the Grimm brother's original tales. This book can be read from 3rd grade and up, but it can be read as a read-a loud for younger students.
Traditional Fantasy: A collection of the Grimm Brothers traditional stories. This version is awesome because of the eclectic mix of classic illustrations from tons of old renditions of these fairy tales.

I never knew all of these classic tales from my childhood were Grimm stories and It was magical to read the 15 tales in one sitting.
It was nice to re-read all these stories, and I liked all the different illustrations done throughout the times.
