Spence. I love this guy. Jessica Shirvington, please, please, PLEASE make a spin-off series with Spence. He so deserves his own book. I liked the little insight we got about is family (or lack of) albeit, it made me sad for him. If you could hug a fictional character, I'd smother him. His loyalty was relentless and every time that guy opens his mouth, I either gush or smile. 1 word - or 2. SPIN.OFF.

The guy is amazing.. and yes, he is my favourite. Apart from maybe Phoenix. Maybe the same. Which...more Spence. I love this guy. Jessica Shirvington, please, please, PLEASE make a spin-off series with Spence. He so deserves his own book. Phoenix. I fell in love with him more and more by each chapter. At first, I could not believe that he could be that cruel and would intentionally get Rudyard killed, and thankfully, I was right.

I loved that little snippet of a chapter from Phoenix's POV and although it was a little random, it showed us how HUMAN and vulnerable he really was. That part made me a little teary and I really, really hope that he gets his own HEA (coming from a masochist reader, that says a lot) or at least karma for saving those all those lives - human and Grigori, alike - from the volcano and tsunami.

Evelyn. What. The. Hell? How can Violet hate her so much. I mean, yeah, she abandoned her and her hubby and also traded Violet's "fate" but doesn't she at least deserve a chance to explain? Not everything is black and white, VIOLET!! Plus, she is your mother!

And the ending. Oh my god, I feel so sorry for her father. He's so innocent in all of it but he keeps gerring burned, by his wife, then his daughter.. and then his wife again. A supposedly dead wife.

Josephine. Aaaaaarrrgggh. I cannot stand that woman. She's cold, calculating, manipulative and a well written, consistent b*tch of a character, but, oh did I hate her. Although, I do admit that part where she blew up the boat of exiles into the water was COMPLETELY badass. I wish I could do that.

Dapper is still a mystery and I have a feeling we may never find out what he is. Or maybe what he is will be a major plot line of the story which is completely contradictory to what I just said so maybe I should just keep my thoughts about him to myself, yes?

I found myself liking Onyx more and more. He's different, honest - if I were in Phoenix's position, I would stop at nothing to kill you, Violet, honest - (unless he has ulterior motives) and amusing. Who would've guessed.

The scene where Lincoln and Violet are forced to kiss is so beautifully written. I guess because its' solely based on their love and not lust, which makes it all the more romantic. And the not she left him near the end was sweet, and I found myself, hoping too that he'd read it with a smile and not a frown, despite my leniency towards Phoenix. </spoiler>

So, it's been a while since I read Enticed but this book pretty much summed up all the important details from the previous books. Can't wait till Endless and hope Phoenix gets something good out of all of it. And fingers crossed for that Spence spin-off. (; (hide spoiler)](less)

Emblaze by Jessica Shirvington ripped my heart out and stomped on it repeatedly. When I thought things were going to finally be as it should be, something would happen that would throw everything out the window. My heart went out for Violet. Her many attempts in trying to convince Lincoln that they belong together were gut wrenching, and had me praying to the book plot gods that she can finally find some sort of happiness in her life.

With her powers becoming stronger and stronger every day, her love for Lincoln grows just as strong. After the Scooby gang manages to decipher what the Scripture says, they work around the clock trying to concoct a plan that will thwart the evil plans that Phoenix has.

Oh Phoenix… I was just getting over my crush on this ultimate bad boy in the beginning of the book, when Jessica Shirvington writes a chapter that is in the point of view of Phoenix himself, and OMG you guys…I fell for him all over again! I love, love, loved that chapter. We are treated to how Phoenix’s mind was working upon his first encounter with Violet. The inner conflicts he had about his feelings towards her. Argh! It was so epically epic. I would say that if there is one part that you just HAVE to read in Emblaze, it would have to be this little “confession time” that Phoenix has.

For some reason, I know that I’m supposed to be falling harder for Lincoln in Emblaze. With his brooding and a love that just cannot be scenarios, but I found myself getting annoyed with him and his attitude…and it progressively got worse as the book wore on. I understand that there’s a reason why he and Violet need to distance themselves, but buddy! Have a little heart! This poor girl is pouring her heart out to you and you can’t even offer up a smile! Pffft!

BUT author, Jessica Shirvington, toys with my emotions yet again when she writes this totally romantic scene where all it took was a paragraph. A verbal diarrhea of words that had me teary eyed and dismissing all the negative thoughts I had towards Lincoln. Oh Ms. Shirvington, how you toy with my heart!

And don’t even get me started on the cliff hanger ending! I have so much I want to say about Violet’s attitude regarding the events that unfolded, but to do so would most definitely be such a spoiler, that I’m positive I would never be forgiven.

In summation, Emblaze is a book riddled with love… a soul mate’s love, a father’s love, a best friend’s love, and a love that was hidden so deep, that the truth of it will totally shock the socks off of you.(less)

When I read the first few chapters of Entice, I thought this series had alot of promise. And I did find it an enjoyable read- it was full of action that left me on the edge of my seat at times, and had some nice romance, but it just didn't live up to its full potential. *sigh*.

-At the start of the book, the way the existence of light and dark angels, that are needed to balance eachother out, was explained, made me excitedly think, "oooohhh... this is going to be a deep, slightly philosophical fantasy story that shows actual shades of grey". However, even after all Violet has seen (Onyx, Phoenix etc.), in this book she still jumps at the chance to divide things into good and evil, despite being reprimanded for it A DOZEN TIMES. I feel like she really needs to be hit over the head with it before it sinks in.
-Phoenix....I cannot put my annoyance with him into words. I thought he was perfectly relatable in the first book, but then he TRIED TO KILL/SERIOUSLY INJURE VIOLET WHILST CLAIMING TO LOVE HER. I can understand his manipulating her emotions towards Lincoln, fuelled by jealousy, but he seriously crossed some lines into insanity in the 2nd and 3rd books. Why did the author ruin a damaged but redeemable character? I think he is now beyond redemption with Violet. (She should not accept romance or even friendship with someone who would hurt her like that- especially with her past attack).
-Something that really annoys me in the books is Violet's tendency to hide things (usually her powers) from people who are supposed to be her TEAMMATES for no good reason (I don't want them to think I'm weird is not a good reason when their job involves saving lives).
-And finally, I feel like the books don't give enough depth to the secondary characters. I feel like I'm always too stuck in Violet's head, and don't really get the chance to really KNOW and UNDERSTAND the many potentially interesting characters like Steph and Spence- Violet can just be way too self-centred (not in a malicious/deliberately mean way) sometimes.

I read all 3 books in 2days unable to put it down, the worst feeling in the world was when I finished it also like many readers sayin it was until October we would get another taste o this series :(
I am getting annoyed at the "can't be together" attitude but I have to say makes it more emotional.....
The walking away from each other, ignoring, trying to hide from one another, the little moments of joy then the ripping out of your heart... That's what love it, It reminds me of having a 1st crush...more

I don't know If I'm the only one here. But I love Phoenix- I have since book 1 and I will until the last one.
How can anyone blame him, he's lives patent less for god knows how many years and was judged and cast out before he said a word.
He's finally experienced- love- a completely knew unknown feeling and he has no clue what to do. He's fighting the darkness inside that he never asked for and struggles for control and he only wanted her to live him . But he has to stand there and feel the pers...more

Love the idea of finding out how Linc and Vi are developing emotionally, phsyically and through their souls with their Grigori power and human selves its interesting to read about but I love how its more focused on her life and her as a Grigori warrior not so much her love for Linc or Phoenix.

The climax when Vi is hanging on the edge and Linc admits all just had me fogging up my reading glasses and Spence gave great comical relief when things were getting so frustrating and heart racing as I felt all of Vi's emotions when her soul was clawing out of her. It was a great burden to feel those emotions so strongly through a character, how strongly she felt about Linc and the turmoil she faced with choices of her family and friends.

It was also interesting to see how she was developing her powers along the way and I really got a sense of power as she was growing stronger. I loved how Linc, even just by being there that night in the park hunting the exile or training her in the park was supporting and released pain that I had built up as I was feeling Vi's emotions - He really did help release the tension she was feeling and you know there is so much more to them that you cant explain or answer because it runs deep to the core that not even Vi or Linc understand.

I did feel, when Steph was healing fast that I thought she mightve been developing to be what Dapper could be - which wouldve explained that connection or vibe I got off when Dapper was defending Steph and always around her and being really nice but shitty when Salvatore rocked up and then he goes quiet, so thought then it might be that he had feelings for her or she might be supernatural like he is and he was guiding her and I was expecting that to develop a bit more. But it turned out the complete opposite!

Was really hanging out to hear Linc's reaction to Vi explaining that she can travel the realms and talks to her angel maker, the idea of her keeping things from him about her power and from others confused me but I feel will only be answered later on down the track - Now I know what you mean about waiting for the characters to reach the right spot before closing the chapters.

Only thing that bugged me was waiting a year for the next book - Enticed and Emblazed were realsed so close together which had me thinking you, Jessica, might be keeping it to a 6 month period between releasing books, but a year is a hefty wait! I know it will be worth it, but a year is ages away!

To make matters worse, Phoenix is still around, harassing Violet to get the exile scrolls the Grigori are in possession of. Violets very distant father has decided to take an active role in Violet's life, realizing she is part of something he is unaware of, and he tries to stop her. Violet comes to the conclusion that this may be the end of her life, but that she will protect everyone around her even if that means to sacrifice herself.
Oh my God this book was intense. The entire story was non stop action, from the opening with an attack at the school to a world wide adventure. There is no time for Violet to get her breath, and as the reader I was speeding through the book right along with her. I absolute love the character Violet has grown to be. She is strong, tough, realistic, giving, and never takes anything for granted. I was not a huge fan of her in the first book because she continuously made bad decisions, but now I love her. She is up there with my favorite female heroines.
Lincoln. Sigh. He has made me do a couple turn-abouts since the series started, loved him in the first, hated him in the second, and he has totally redeemed himself in the third. I want the two of them to be together probably as much as they want to be together. I will admit there were times where I wanted to shake or smack Lincoln, but every time he came through.
I will admit to also loving Phoenix. I don't care that he is supposedly the bad guy, I still root for him. There was even a chapter that was told from his point of view, and I love the insight the reader got, the quick glimpse of humanity he keeps well hidden. I think he talks a good game, but he would do anything for Violet.
And finally Violets friends. She has the best friends any girl could ask for. Steph is loyal and true and understands her better than anyone else ever could. She started out in Violets world as an interloper, but with her smarts she has made a very important place for herself in the Grigori. Spence is highly entertaining. I liked him from the start, but he gets better and better as the series goes on. He is her partner in crime, would do anything she asks, and believes in her completely. With the two of them on her side, Violet can take on the world, or at least some exiles.
I completely enjoyed this book, and in my opinion, the series just gets better and better. I could barely function yesterday and today because I was so fully engrossed in continuing to read, that nothing else mattered. I was transported to the action I was reading about.

Okay, this is the 3rd book already and it seems the 4th one will come out on September 2012 so 2 more months before I can read the next installment. And according to the author's website, she doesn't know if she will make this a part of 5 or 6 books or stick with the 4 book saga.

For my review on Emblaze, I still don't know if it arise because of the quality of the grammar etc or because of the writing style. It's so hard for me to actually finish this fast. I usually finish a book in one sitting...more

After coming to grips with her powers as a Grigori, Violet Eden must now save the world from evil, decide whether or not she needs a boyfriend, and still keep peace at home with her father who now decides to pay attention to her. She is again caught up in her triangle between Phoenix and Lincoln with some major consequences and although I can't rightly call this a love triangle any more , it does have some of those elements. Essentially, Lincoln has abandon her because he is not sure he can admit his feelings towards her, while Phoenix seems to know the score about the relationship between those two. Even though Phoenix is a bad boy with mommy issues, he does care about Violet while at the same time is using her as a means to his own end.

There is so much excitement in this story. First off, you have Violet finally coming to terms with her powers, although I think there is more than meets the eye. It is alluded to a bit but I want to see more! I am still on the fence about Phoenix since I know he isn't right for Violet (SPOILER ALERT- highlight with your cursor to read) but he had every opportunity to destroy her, yet doesn't.. Oh and Linc really needs to get his act together and fight for Violet not just with her. All of my favorite minor characters are all present and accounted for like Steph, who supports her BFF with everything she has. Onyx and Dapper have a symbiotic thing going on but I can't really explain that relationship at all. I hope that gets clarified soon. Since this story focuses mostly on Violet, we only get brief glimpses of Phoenix and that little interlude is so telling. I sort of miss hearing more from Phoenix.

This installment was a really fast read for me. I couldn't do a thing until I finished it and even then, I didn't want it to end. Actually, I would have been so upset if this one had ended the series since it left me hanging a bit. I am so glad I checked and there are at least two more to come after this one. I have so many unanswered questions about Violet and her mother, Evelyn, also I need to know what happens with Phoenix and Linc. Ahhh! So many things I need to know. Parents: there is language and some violence which I would rate at PG13 and I almost wish there was a bit more kissing. I have high hopes that I get that in the next installment which I think is called Endless.

I usually tend to see that problem in long series though, you see a few books in the series that will drop off a little and then the next one will pick things back up. I do love this series though, and I will be continuing to read it.

The story just went a little o the slow pace with this book, it wasn’t that the story wasn’t good it just didn’t feel quite as thrilling as the first two books. I’m not really going to count much against it though, because I have high hopes that the story will pick back up on an awesome pace in the next book. You do learn a lot in this book which is why I guess it was slowed down a little. You will learn a lot more about Violet and you really get to see a different side of Phoenix. It was also pretty interesting learning a little more about the Exiles and Lilith. But other than that, I just didn’t really get a lot of excitement out of this book.

The setting was fantastic though, I loved the Greece themes that you get to experience. And I also enjoyed the character progression, because like I said above that is what I felt this book focused on more than anything else. And there are quite a few bombshells that are dropped involving some of the characters. So that always makes things interesting, right?

Overall I was happy with this book. It served a good purpose in the series, I just really hope the pace is picked up a little more in the next book in the series. It was nice to learn a lot more about key points of the series, but I really missed some of the excitement and action we saw in the first two books. You do see it in Emblaze, it just isn’t quite as intense.

There really isn’t much else to say about Emblaze. If you’re a fan of the series, I do think you will enjoy the character progression but other than that I feel as though things will hopefully pick up a lot more when Endless comes around. And if you haven’t start this series don’t let this review scare you away, because there really is a lot of awesome packed between the pages of this series. (less)

I was so excited to start Emblaze because I really enjoy this Violet Eden series. I love how each book keeps getting better and better in this series. I enjoyed Embrace but really enjoyed Entice more. Now, however, I think Emblaze is my new favorite in the series.

Violet keeps on developing more and more with each new book as well. She continues to deal with a lot ever since she learned she is part angel. She is a realistic character still to me though.

OMG AMAZING!! I loved it. I started reading and did not put it down till I had finished (it literally never left my hands till I had finished it) I love Jessica Shirvingtons writing and these are the best books ever. Loved it!! I cannot believe I have to wait a whole year for the Endless!! The wait will be agonizing but I know it will be worth it. Fingers crossed Violet and Lincoln finally get their happily ever after :)

Phoenix is killing me a little bit. I spent two reviews saying how Lincoln shouldn't be with Vi at all and that how could you pass Phoenix up for him...then he goes and does all this! I am still not convinced that Lincoln and Vi are meant to be together, though we got perilously close to that happening in this book. I just can't see it, I really can't! It was so good! I was gaping a lot like a fool while waiting for my flight in the airport! Was so glad I had a copy of Endless (the next book) in my nook. Thanks to Australia's Hachette group for publishing the book earlier in that part of the world! Lol.

One of the most heart wrenching books I've read, this is the best installment of The Violet Eden Chapters yet.
The way Shirvington blends Biblical facts with a beautiful tale had me glued to the book till the very last page.

I have to say this one of my favorite love triangles. As much as would like to hate Phoenix, he keeps doing stuff to make me want to like him. He is so infuriating! EMBLAZE was more emotional than the Embrace or Entice. My heart ached with Violet’s. It drew me in so much that I felt everything she was feeling. Vi and Linc are fighting hard to keep each other out after seeing what happened to Rudy and Nyla. How long can they deny the truth that they are destined to be soul mates? Will this draw a wedge between them that is too big to overcome?
Phoenix has gotten the Grigori Scripture, but the Grigori now hold the Exile Scripture. While the exiles having the Grigori Scripture could be tragic, the Exile Scripture could be more devastating in their hands. Phoenix is now convinced that using the Exile Scripture to bring his mother, Lilith, back is more rewarding than killing off all Grigori who have yet to come of age or awareness of who they really are. Now all defenses are up and both sides are plotting for control of both Scriptures. Steph gets caught in the middle of a strategic plan to gain possession of both Scriptures goesone wrong. Phoenix is all too aware of where to hit Violet the hardest to get what he wants. And keeping Violet’s dad out of the loop is becoming increasingly harder. The battle takes them out of the country again, but this time there is no welcoming Grigori party to help. They must go to no-man’s land to stop the prophecy in the Exile Scripture from coming to past. Violet must make a choice and either way she decides could have devastating consequences. Emblaze by Jessica Shirvington ripped my heart out and stomped on it repeatedly. When I thought things were going to finally be as it should be, something would happen that would throw everything out the window. My heart went out for Violet. Her many attempts in trying to convince Lincoln that they belong together were gut wrenching, and had me praying to the book plot gods that she can finally find some sort of happiness in her life.

With her powers becoming stronger and stronger every day, her love for Lincoln grows just as strong. After the Scooby gang manages to decipher what the Scripture says, they work around the clock trying to concoct a plan that will thwart the evil plans that Phoenix has.

Oh Phoenix… I was just getting over my crush on this ultimate bad boy in the beginning of the book, when Jessica Shirvington writes a chapter that is in the point of view of Phoenix himself, and OMG you guys…I fell for him all over again! I love, love, loved that chapter. We are treated to how Phoenix’s mind was working upon his first encounter with Violet. The inner conflicts he had about his feelings towards her. Argh! It was so epically epic. I would say that if there is one part that you just HAVE to read in Emblaze, it would have to be this little “confession time” that Phoenix has.

For some reason, I know that I’m supposed to be falling harder for Lincoln in Emblaze. With his brooding and a love that just cannot be scenarios, but I found myself getting annoyed with him and his attitude…and it progressively got worse as the book wore on. I understand that there’s a reason why he and Violet need to distance themselves, but buddy! Have a little heart! This poor girl is pouring her heart out to you and you can’t even offer up a smile! Pffft!

BUT author, Jessica Shirvington, toys with my emotions yet again when she writes this totally romantic scene where all it took was a paragraph. A verbal diarrhea of words that had me teary eyed and dismissing all the negative thoughts I had towards Lincoln. Oh Ms. Shirvington, how you toy with my heart!

And don’t even get me started on the cliff hanger ending! I have so much I want to say about Violet’s attitude regarding the events that unfolded, but to do so would most definitely be such a spoiler, that I’m positive I would never be forgiven.

In summation, Emblaze is a book riddled with love… a soul mate’s love, a father’s love, a best friend’s love, and a love that was hidden so deep, that the truth of it will totally shock the socks off of you.(less)
