A short and punchy collection. Bisson had me with the lead story, "TVA Baby," and its gleefully maniacal narrator. Then there's "Private Eye," a really rather tender story about online voyeurism, followed by the disturbing dispatches of "Pirates of the Somali Coast." And quite a few more—these are sharp shocks, with short word counts (the whole book is only 170 pages, which wouldn't make a chapter in many of today's doorstops) and mature themes, worldly and occasionally quite explicit.

Terry Ballantine Bisson is an American science fiction and fantasy author best known for his short stories, including "Bears Discover Fire" (1990), which which won both the Hugo and Nebula awards, as well as "They're Made Out of Meat" (1991), which has been adapted for video often.
