Bottom Line - The Light of Asteria is a powerful mystery to behold, it had me weeping with intense pain, and laughing with the joy of the years passed, it wrapped my emotions up, and expelled them out of my body, in away that I have never before experienced, I can only hope that one day, my daughter finds the love that Nora did, she deserves it...and though it's selfish, and not of the right intent, I hope one day I can find that love again too. It's powerful and there's only a few books that I...more

I asked for a review copy from Elizabeth Isaacs upon reading a post from her on Goodreads (she wanted reviewers), and at first I was a bit hesitant. Would I enjoy this read? However, the little reviews out there persuaded me to push forward and ask, and I am SO glad that I did, because had I not done so, I would never have found this treasure.

It is beautifully written, and from the first page, Isaac's eloquent and sophisticated language and form is prominent, though still very much YA. [example]...more

"What I need to know is...can you accept me for who I am? Can you love someone not of your world?"

The Light of Asteria was nothing, but exquisite. I believe there are 3 different kinds of authors out there…ones that are good writers, and ones that are good story tellers. There are the books that, yes the authors writing is amazing, but the story itself is nothing exciting or throat gripping. Then there are the authors that while their writing could use some work, there imagination to tell an ama...more

“I love you,” he whispered. He took me in his arms and kissed me with such tenderness and commitment that I thought I would surely drown.

Fantasy books for me are a bit out of the norm but when I came across this book, I knew it was one I had to get my hands on. Thankfully, the author kindly offered me a review copy so of course I quickly snapped it up….and let me tell you, I wasn’t left disappointed.

The Light of Asteria is an addictive and engrossing novel that will truly touch you’re heart. T...more
Patricia (Patricia's Particularity)
There are many novels out there that try to combine the fantastical with elemental and paranormal while attempting to remain 'real'. Sadly most of these novels are not as successful as one would hope in bringing these, and many more, elements together to create a beautiful harmonic tale. Elizabeth Isaacs' The Light of Asteria is the EXCEPTION. I will be honest, I was timid when I first started to read this book. While Elizabeth Isaacs' writing is far from dull and horrible, it's synopsis seemed...more

Everyone should pick up a copy of this novel, and read it, then poke Elizabeth to write and get the next one released sooner :D

This is a truly lyrical novel. The words flow over the page and the pacing is wonderful. It also keeps me guessing, feeding me a little information at a time, enough to keep me hungry for more. It provoked many emotions from me, making me laugh, tear up, feel joy, sorrow, and everything else in between.

This is another of the love at first sight, and touch but it has a pa...more

I just finished The Light of Asteria. I could not put it down! The best word I can find to describe the experience is: Wow... The beauty of Elizabeth's story is unlike anything I have ever read. She has an incredible knack for putting the reader *in* Nora's shoes. You see what she sees--but more powerful, you feel what Nora is feeling. Her love, devotion, and heartache become a part of who you are. I can truly say I have never experienced a story like The Light of Asteria before. The plot is ori...more

I found out about 'The Light of Asteria' through Jennifer S. and soon I started following Elizabeth on Twitter. She is such a sweet person! =) When I finally got my copy of her book I immediately started reading and finished it in two days.

Let me just start by saying: Oh my god! I LOVE this book! This is one of my absolute favorites! Never have I read such a beautiful and emotional book like 'The Light of Asteria'. I loved absolutely everything about it. The characters were wonderful and real a...more

Let me just start by saying THANK YOU to Jennifer S. for recommending this book! It was not even what I was expecting. The cover and synopsis kind of threw me off and I wasn't that interested in reading it, but I am so glad I did.

I also want to say a big THANK YOU to the author, Ms.Isaacs for writing such a wonderful story. I feel like a better person for reading this.

The Light of Asteria was the MOST emotional book I have ever read, hands down. I was choked-up or crying for at least 2/3 of the...more

I stumbled upon this book unexpectedly, and I was very glad that I did! I didn’t know much about the story when I began reading, and I was pleasantly surprised to find the start of a delightful fantasy series.

At first, I found the writing to be extremely choppy and it took me quite a while to get into the flow of the story. I think it’s because the author has a very matter of fact writing style. Also, between the beginning of the book and the end, the characters are in very different places so...more

I really enjoyed this book. Delightfully written! Great imagery. A beautiful tale. Captivating!

I am so glad Elizabeth Isaacs made the first book in her series over three hundred and fifty pages. Why? Besides being able to enjoy her prose, I totally understood her story. Sometimes I feel rushed reading some of today's fantasy YA but not this time. I liked Nora, the main character of this tale. She is humble, honest, selfless, loving and strong. Her relationship with her foster mother, Edna, is refreshingly normal (yay!) and I was touched by Nora's decision to attend the local community col...more

(Review part I written at 4pm)

I hate to say bad things about books. Blame my 4th grade teacher who chastised me about folding over pages and bending back covers, or my 7th grade teacher, who promptly silenced any rebukes from our class with "If you think you could write one better, go ahead and try don't just bring down other's efforts." So when I find myself 266 pages into this book and can't help feeling bludgeoned with how similar it sounds to Twilight ($@#*&!), it's hard for me to keep r...more

WOW! WOW! WOW!....... Did I mention WOW!? This is like no other I have read. It is a book of pure and raw emotion.

Elizabeth uses the strengths of colours and elements to help the reader visualise every aspect of the book. The senses are in overdrive with this book. I truly felt apart of the story. And yes.... I cried. There were two parts that I shed a tear for - one of sorrow and one of relief.

Nora is a wonderful female lead that grows spiritually, emotionally and even physically throughout the...more

Light of Asteria: Kailmeyra’s Last Hope by Elizabeth Isaacs, is a refreshing and enchanting expedition into a fascinating and well-developed land of fantasy. Isaacs has developed interesting characters who come vividly to life on the page, as well as a funny and refreshing romance that teaches young adult’s the value of waiting until marriage for intimacy.

I absolutely love Isaac’s characters, and her pages are populated with them. There is Edna, the wonderful woman who raised her when she was a...more

WOW! I knew this book was going to be great since a lot of my friends commented on my weekly haul video saying that this book was just simply brilliant. And surely they did not lie! When I first started the prologue, I was stunned by the lyrical writing of Elizabeth. Her words captured me as if they were jumping out of the page and grabbing me with their small ink hands. The words seemed to twist and turn like mist and slowly forming into pictures and scenes that I can picture with clarity. And...more

Never a fan of instant love, but I thought I would give this book a chance anyways. The love story part of the book was just so so in my opinion. I wish I could understand why Nora was so in love with Gavin. It did not, in my opinion, convey what qualities Gavin possessed that made Nora fall in love with him. I could understand why he fell in love with her; she shared her life and experiences with him. Besides that, I did not mind the characters personalities. Though Rena reminds me of Alice fro...more

4.5 Stars for this book!!!

I must start by saying the book blurb doesn't begin to show the reader what they are instore for. The words that came to mind when I finished this book were , deep love, passionate, pure, spiritual, emotional, at times peaceful.

18 year old Nora Johnson lives with her foster parent Edna. She loves her like a mother. They have a beautiful bond. Very early into the book you realise Nora is special. Nora has a gift that reveals itself to the reader over chapters.

Nora is not your average young lady. She has a sad past and is very loyal to her friends. She is staying home from college to help out her aging foster mother. She is a wonderful girl who cares deeply.

She helps her two friends move into the dorms when she literally bumps into a young man who she feels an instant connection to. It doesn't take long until he becomes her focus. The great thing is that he is just as interested in her.

This takes the story into a fantasy realm. There is danger, good v...more

My Summary:

Nora Johnson's life changes the day she literally runs into a gorgeous guy with emerald green eyes on campus. She's been helping her friends move onto campus but she has to go back home to the community college. Not that she couldn't get into a big school, it's just...well... complicated. Disappointed to leave her friends, she hurries off campus only to run into Gavin. The wave of emotions and change that heats through her is tangible. She hurries off expecting to never see him again....more

I would like to take the time to say to the author of this book ( u rock). I was looking through some of the books on here that other people have read . And hearing good reviews ? So I thought what the hell I give it a go ? I brought it through amazon and it was really cheap Which I thought was an added bonus .I have just finished the book only after having it for one day . This book is so beautifully written the essence of the characters are captured so well I fell in love with Nora / Gavin the...more

The Light of Asteria, is breathtaking! This story truly was something of perfection. Elizabeth Isaacs, has an amazing way of pulling you into the characters roll. I felt as though I was in the book, experiencing everything at the same time.

The plot was great and the characters were stunning. But what I can't manage to express here, is that The Light of Asteria will leave an imprint on you. There's such a deep devotion and love between Nora and Gavin. There's such a strong undeniable connection...more

Light of Asteria is not just another YA paranormal book out there that you pick up and enjoy only to put down so you can gobble the next. It's not just another romance story where boy meets girl and they run off happily ever after into the sunset. It is a work of art. It is the book that if I had read it when I was a child, it would have been the reason why I write today. It's just that powerful. It combines love, mystery, passion, suspense, good and evil in a way that makes you question everyth...more

LOVE:
I love the way Nora and Gavin are very emotionally open to each other. Their love story is really very romantic. Gavin is old fashioned, and clings to the traditions of the place where he comes from. Nora and Gavin's relationship is mature from the beginning. I think it bypassed the "baby" stage. While they do have relationship issues, they always manage to get through it all, just as love should every time. It sends a very positive message. I also li...more

light spoilers:

I have been reading so many quick, short reads that I was excited to pick up a book that was a little longer. The Light of Asteria was a delightful read. It truly was good v. evil and it was so easy to distinguish the two. Everything was based on your intent, if your intent was pure you were good. But if you allowed negative intent and emotions to rule your being, you would turn evil. I wonder if one of the evil beings started to have good intentions, if they would turn good again...more

The concepts in this book are an elegantly conceived love story. When Nora meets Gavin, she is stunned by their otherworldly first encounter. As she comes to know him and those like him, she learns of a connection that can exist that is intensely spiritual and emotional as much as physical. The pure, light-filled passion that exists between the two of them keeps the reader interested in what will happen to their celestial-like love, wondering anxiously how they will be able to become one.

The pow...more

A worthwhile fantasy read which weaves the romance between Gavin and Nora with some excellent world-building. I can never resist a book which features a portal to another world (either reading one, or writing one!) and The Light of Asteria did not disappoint.

The book is saturated with the power of love, and addresses the crucial role of forgiveness. The importance of intention is also cleverly knitted into the storyline. As a lightworker, these are all things I try to work with daily, so for tha...more

I give this book 5 stars for the story line! Amazing and I loved it. I have already downloaded book 2 Secret of the Keepers. I have to say that this book was long 700 pages not the 318 that came up on the Goodreads information on this book. The second book is just as long but I feel the author has gotten past most of the supporting details and can now just get into telling the story.
I wish the first book had been split into two books and each had more detail. There were several times I had to g...more

I have my master’s in music performance and at one time considered a career in opera. My teacher’s heart wouldn’t stand for it though, and so we moved back to Kentucky and I found a wonderful elementary school that needed me; I’ve been there for thirteen years now.

Books have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’ve always been a closet writer. Though it wasn't until recently...more
