Several years ago, I read "Couldn't Keep It To Myself", the first collection of stories from Wally Lamb and the women of York Correctional Institution. I absolutely loved the book and my copy quickly became tattered as friend after friend read the book and shared my sense of awe. When I heard that a second compilation was being released, I couldn't wait to read it.

Reading this book was interesting because many of the women's stories take place in Connecticut at the time I lived there. While reading this there were a few times I realized I should probably have been incarcerated at one time or another.... but seriously-- All of their stories are somehow relatable....and even though many of them were in prison for violent crimes- I still felt like they were just regular women who had in most cases been abused by husbands, boyfriends and family members who e...more

This is a second volume of short stories and poems from the women of York Prison in Connecticut. This and the first volume (Couldn't Keep It to Myself) are the product of workshops lead by author Wally Lamb.
All of the entries are good, several are great, and a few are excellent. "Big Girl Jail," and the final story about redemption through nature are two of my favorites.

This is another collection of essays written by women who are serving time in prison. Wally Lamb is the editor and one of the facilitators of a writing workshop at the prison. A lot of the essays are really well written but very sad. The book does a great job of humanizing the women and making you see them as more than just criminals.

I just finished this book. I picked it up because in my world, Wally Lamb is always worth it. Of course, as it turns out, he is not the writer...his students from a prison-based writing class are. And I don't have a single complaint. Their writing was amazing. Read this! It's worth it.

Wally Lamb appeared again...was amazing that he is teaching creative writing to women inmates in Connecticut, and I enjoyed reading their stories. It reminded me how human we all are and how simple choices can lead to different endings for each of us. Makes me feel so lucky...

See my review for Couldn't Keep It to Myself. As with that, if you don't read this, you are stupid.

Along the same lines as Couldn't Keep It To Myself. Decent book but not at all like his others.
