This is the seventh book in the Allie Beckstrom series. This book has some big changes in store for the characters as they pick up the pieces from the mess that was left after the previous book. I enjoyed it, but the beginning of the story is more of a transition...the end packs some serious awesomeness though. This is not a book to start the series on, go back and start at the beginning or you will be seriously confused. The next book will be titled Magic Without Mercy and is due for a April 20...more

I will start off by saying that I thought this book was amazing and it is the best book so far that I have read in 2011. I wish that I had reviewed the previous 6 books because a bit like Allie I can sometimes forget what happens in books and I use my reviews to refresh my memory like Allie uses her journal. In this installment we have a new leader of the Authority who is drastically changing the way things are run. Magic has also bee...more

Magic on the Line is the seventh installment in the Allie Beckstrom series and is pretty much a game changer for Allie and her friends. The Authority is in shambles, and there’s a new overseer in town making some major moves and problems for anyone who has been caught in the constant battles with Leander, Isabella, and their followers.
Bartholomew Bray, who is part of a group called the Watch, comes to town and subsequently throws his weight around to the...more

OK. I'm getting a little sick of the never ending story. This isn't a series of books. It's one long telenovella in print. What I'd like to see very soon:
- Some conclusion to the never ending story. OK, that's probably not going to happen. How about this instead?
- A more active role by some female characters other than Allie? OK, her best friend is a woman, but she only gets trotted out occasionally and doesn't play a major role. There's another woman, a mother of one of Allie's magic using frie...more

Clearly a keeper! :-)
I was so excited to pick up this, the 7th book in the Allie Beckstrom series! As usual it didn't disappoint!
Filled with the hiney kicking, witty commenting, magic slinging, cozy kissing and relationship challenged friends I've come to love hanging out with! Again Ms. Monk has spun a tale that kept me flipping pages for an entire night until I finished the book!

A new person has come in to lead the local Portland part of the Authority and is not seeing things the same way as Allie and all of her other comrades in the Authority. He obviously has some nefarious plans but has not made them quite clear to anyone yet. Zay being an employee and loyal to the Authority through and through does what he is told whether he agrees with it or not, which cause some issues between him and Shame and Allie. Allie is mostly alone during this book, besides her fathers spo...more
I’ve been meaning to pick this one up, but either haven’t found the time or been in the mood (yeah, weird, I know!)… But I did, and boy was there a lot to go through. Now I’m anxiously awaiting Magic Without Mercy, due out next April. Hurry up already!

Magic On The Line; after the events of the past few books, there is a new head of Authority in Portland and he's making some hard decisions. Zay is having to do things he hates to friends he loves, and Allie isn't too happy. Weird things are happening to the houds and magic users...then on top of everything else, Allie finds herself once again in hiding - from the Authority AND the law this time. Not only that, but suddenly she's having a hard time accessing magic - something that has always bee...more

No holds bar!!!
So lets just say...
What in the world has Allie Beckstrom not done to protect someone?
Be taken as Hostage? Check!
Fight back? Check!
Take a bullet to heal someone else? Check!
Walk into Death? Check!
ok... And all these things that she has done... Have specifically put herself into harms way, or possibly the course of death to accomplish the goal of helping others.
So I must admit, out of all the books this one has given us a brief glimpse of her past, not really but its better.

I love the Allie Beckstrom series!! Devon Monk really writes a fabulous series and I love her take on magic always coming with a price! a decent read. a few old enemies and friends come to light. the story dips a bit here and there and the characters motivations change over the course of events. the friendships become tighter in this installment, the main character allie beckstrom finds out whose really looking out for her no matter what dangers comes her way and they especially don't care how much she worries about sticking them right into the line of fire for that danger. like the last couple of installments though there are h...more
If you have not read the first 6 books I think you would be a bit lost trying to start at book 7 MAGIC ON THE LINE. There is a lot of back story that you would have missed and needed to follow along with everything. The Allie Beckstrom series is fantastic though so you wouldn't be disappointed in starting it. All the books up to date have been fast paced, full of action, adventure and interesting story line's to keep you coming back for more.

Cliff hanger ending?
Nooooooooooooo!!!!
Take it back! Make it go away!
I enjoyed this book right up until the Allie & Zay went to the cistern. Then it became a massive "What the?" for me. Like a shark had been jumped or something. The whole Veiled turning into some kind of magic vampire virus giving creature made my eyebrows climb.
This has not stopped me from gnashing my teeth at having to wait until April...APRIL!!! for the next installment. And this is why I hate cliff hanger endings. Serious...more

“Magic on the Line” is the seventh installment in what I understand is a nine book series. I love this series! It keeps getting better and better! Devon Monk continues to add depth and complexity to Allie's world that makes each new book in the series exciting. Devon Monk's Allie Beckstrom novels keep getting better and better.
Magic is poisoned and Allie can't use magic. Since she is a Hound and very good at tracking spells, not using magic is a big deal. A new boss is in town and he's cleaning house. People Allie has grown to love and respect are being hurt. Stone was MIA for a while there. He really is a great secondary, or probably tertiary character, and I love it when he shows up. Shame, Terric, Zay, Maeve, Victor and Hayden are all there in one...more

My emotions were all over the place while reading this book. It was non stop from the beginning and although I had wanted to try and savor it a little longer, since the next book isn’t out for a month, I finished the book in 4 hours. There is so much going on and everything is getting turned upside down and backwards. It’s so awesome. Of course, I still love Allie and Shame and Terric and Zayvion, but at times I want to smack Zayvion around. I feel like he is uber guarded when it comes to his em...more

My English review
What a pleasure to follow a new Allie Beckstrom's adventure! If you think the story could change with the books, don’t even think about it because it’s really not the case here. Is it possible the story improves although it was already amazing? I think Devon Monk succeeded to do it. Or it’s the feeling I have now I finished this 7th novel. I have to say I was afraid to be disappointed in the beginning, because I think it’s always difficult to attract the read...more

Book 7 of an ongoing series that I read for the Endeavour Award. Definitely one of the best two that I've read (I think the other was book 4). This was primarily a simple book and not overly long. For the first 100 pages pretty much nothing happens - except for the main character getting a chance to breathe and touching in with lots of the supporting characters - though not all. And then one thing happens that explains a lot of where the last 3 books had been going. And then it was a race to the...more
Oh, Magic on the Line was exceedingly good. I think it's the best in the series so far. An awful lot of tension, a very interesting and even a bit complicated storyline, and for the first time in the Allie Beckstrom series: character development (on Allie's part).
Still, there it had two significant faults:
- Cut-off ending: not exactly like a cliffhanger, but the story was just left hanging
- Stupid characters: it took them until then end of the book to figure out something that could already be...more

Wish I could give this book higher than a 5 star!! Another great addition to the Allie Beckstrom series!!! Full of action, great lines that made me grin and laugh out loud and she's one author who knows how not to overdue a relationship between characters. While Allie and Zayvion's relationship is progressing it only continues to add to the storyline. I'm glad she explained Zayvion's behavior in this book, it allows the reader to understand why his character has been going through some drastic c...more

I want to say that so far of this series this has been one of my favorites.
Yes, Zay has changed. Yes, Allie is changing. To be honest, most of the characters are becoming more complex, even Alli's Dad. I think these things are expected and I would be more upset if the characters didn't change! And I totally feel for them all because there is no rest for the wicked in this series. It has been one major mojo after another, but this is why we read books - the thrill of the story....more

I love this series! It has it all...great story, great characters and fast paced. I literally couldn't put the book down until the end. I was happy that I had all 7 books available, so when I finished one I could immediately pick up the next book in the series :-) Now I have to wait a couple of months, but I can't wait for the new book in April. I am a big fan of Monk's, and was once again happy with this latest release for Allie's story. That being said, there were things about this one that annoyed me more than any other Allie novel. The cliff hanger ending was one. I hate cliffhangers with a passion, and this one didn't even feel as though it ended at the "proper" hanging part....if that makes sense. I thought the climax of the story was a little dull considering where it ended, and I'm used to Allie having some kind of resolution to...more

Allie has played the good little soldier as best she could despite not ever really knowing who to trust in the all controlling Authority. She and a few others have formed a tight bond that has proven unbreakable in the past. However, if the new leader of the Authority has his way, they all will be mindless and incapable of using any magic. So, it comes really at no surprise when he simply ignores the plague of magical deaths sweeping across...more
