I love Katie MacAlister and have read every book she's ever written, even those under her Kate Maxwell name. I love her humor and characters. She really brings you into the book to the point where you can picture the characters and scenes. However, this book, though entertaining and enjoyable, just didn't do it for me. I'm of the exact problem, whether it was almost like a repeat of a book I had already read by her, the plot jumping around a bit much, or that it just wasn't as well-developed as ...more
While I may not be an expert, I can say with complete confidence that the book, Much Ado About Vampires is just one of many paranormal romances that falls victim to bad writing. This book is nothing more than a self-indulgent, masturbatory Mary Sue fantasy dreamed up by an author who likes her men tough, buff, and randy. The main character Corazon Ferreira is a dumbed-down, sexually starved divorcée who by page 52 has determined that she will have sex with the murderous vampire from her visions. ...more

Style: Sexy Romp

Madcap, crazy and comic describes this tale of a vampire and his beloveds. Plural? How can that be? Yes, Cora and her vampire, Alec, find themselves pitted against the forces of not quite hell but darn close and also against Cora herself, kind of. I didn't find it as cohesive as earlier books in the series, which I read about three years ago it was light, and fun even when

Shh I'm reading!
Cora (and just about all of the female characters) were so obnoxious that it was chore to finish reading this book. In some ways I get it, the tongue in cheek humor about a Dark One and his quip-ready Beloved is supposed to be fast paced. They're bouncing around the mortal realm and various dimensions of the immortal one. But Cora's habit of calling on Jesus and other spiritual beings was obnoxious as well as her stubborn insistence that she was kick-ass, when she wasn't. What 30 something sound ...more
On one hand, the story was fun. On the other, Cora is borderline annoying. Rushing into political situations without thinking is not a good idea. Flinging accusations all over the place without proof is not a good idea. She made Sally look sober by comparison. I know this story is supposed to be a screwball comedy or something but having all three main female characters be goofballs is a bit much. The male characters don't fare any better. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood. I like the author's o ...more
This is a really good story with a well developed plot. The story contains many characters that readers have met previously in other MacAlister books (I love how connected and intertwined MacAlister's books are) and a few new characters. By the end of the story readers experience closure for multiple loose-ends from previous books and readers discover that some characters are WAY more than what they seem. This is definitely an exciting read and, to me, one of the most important MacAlister parano ...more
Well, well, I have mixed feelings about this book. I like Alec and Cora was okay (a bit annoying), but the story is a bit too corny and cliche and not matured enough (or whatever you call a good, thought-out and well written story). Sometimes I felt like slapping both of them! I mean, really! In most of the other books the corny stuff isn't that bad, there is lots of it but that's okay because it is somewhat limited and there is good sex and a great story. The story here is also good, but I coul ...more
I was lucky enough to win Much Ado About Vampires through Goodreads, and I am so glad that I did. Much Ado About Vampires was a book that I really wanted to read because I liked the idea of reincarnation being used in the story. I have recently read Zen and the Art of Vampires and Crouching Vampire, Hidden Fang where the Alec character was first introduced. Alec was a great character that grabbed my interest from the beginning (I actually thought he was Pia's hero in Zen until the story turned) ...more

Quick & Dirty: Such fun to read, wild and witty.

Opening Sentence: Alec Darwin was dying, or as close to it as one could be without having that last little spark of life flutter away into nothingness.

The Review:

This is the story of Corazon Ferreira, a budding real estate agent, and known vampire hater, well serious vampire dislike-er. As the story opens, we find Cora taking pictures of an old mansion along with the woman who stole her husband, who also work

I won this book through Goodreads First Reads program. This is also the first book I've read in the Dark Ones series.

Despite the ridiculous title, I managed to I enjoy this book for what it was (a fun paranormal read), although I'm getting sick of reading about vampires and their 'soul mates.' And having the vamp able to read his Beloved's thoughts is not groundbreaking. I mostly just found the device annoying since Cora tends to have diatribes inside her head until realizing that Alec can hear
I was first introduced to Katie MacAlister and her Dark Ones series through a short story from the book My Zombie Valentine. I was impressed with her writing then, and after getting Much Ado About Vampires through first-reads, I am hooked on the Dark Ones series!

Much Ado About Vampires is the ninth book in the Dark Ones series. The story is centered around Alec and Cora (Corazon). Alec is a “Dark One” (vampire) who has been banished to the Akasha for killing the woman that accidentally killed h

I had recently read "Unleashed", a novella by this author, which featured Crazon's sister Jas coming across a 'jaguar shifted' Dark One. At the beginning of that novella, Corazon is telling her sister about a past life regression she just had.... and in that regression she was a Beloved to a Dark One, but she had been killed by accident. Now what is fun about Katie MacAlister's novels (be they paranormal or contemporary romance), it's how these stories get told! The way Corazon tells about her p ...more
I discovered MacAllister’s Dark Ones series a few years ago and was hooked. Her books are about not perfect heroines and their vampires, along with some naughtiness. A host of other characters with supernatural abilities are also thrown into the mix. Much Ado About Vampires is the 9th in the series. While fun and quirky, the story presents as a tired formula. Girl meets guy who turns out to be a vampire and only a Beloved can give him back his soul. This time around, it is Corazon “Cora” Ferrei ...more

This is Book # 9 of the series The Dark Ones, but my first to read. I did not feel out of the sequence and had no problem with the story, but reading the other books will give a more familiar reference to the characters and their place in the plot.

In this installment Alec a Dark One, gorgeous but disenchanted vampire is willing himself to die, but brought back to life by Corazon (also known as Cora), a feeling very unlucky human who ends up in Akasha (a limbo place before your final destination
Alec finally has his story!!!!

Alec's Beloved was killed many, many moons ago in an accident involving oxcarts and a crazy woman.

Corazon, under hypnosis, discovers that she was murdered in her past life by a crazy woman and an oxcart...and to top it all off, Cora watches the woman who accidentally killed her get murdered by...A Vampire??? Coincidence?....I think not.

Later, Cora becomes "cursed" after becoming involved in a theft, and is tossed into Abaddon.

I find myself needing to hunt down a short story to grasp who the h actually *is*. Am glad that Alex got a HEA, even though I wasn't excessively fond of the 2-parter he was introduced (that whole 2-parter thing, plus he and the h in those books were fooling around a bit). The heroine, for one so reluctant to accept that she was his Beloved, was downright over the top in her efforts to defend him.

This is a general gripe about the world building. The author has almost cherry picked amongst the var

I am so sad to have to report that really I didn't enjoy this book. Normally I love Katie MacAlister's books but this one I just could not get into. I thave to agree with a few reviews I read here on Goodreads. Cora was just plain ditsy and annoying, her dislike of vampires made NO sense to me at all and her fairly quick 180 on the subject made her seem like she had no standards. That's not to say that Alec isn't likable, because he is. Alec seems like almost the only one with any sense in the r ...more
Why do I keep reading these? They're okay, but they're just nothing special. I always feel like I'm missing out on key parts of the stories, and I end up having to go back and look for what I missed. Then once I get to the end, I realize I didn't actually miss anything at all. She just neglected to mention it before. Ugh. I was beyond confused with Sally. I didn't understand how Cora could hate her and then trust her in the same time span, and then say that she was evil too. It just makes no sen ...more

“I’ll be sure to pass that along to the next Beloved I see.”

Corazon Ferreirs (Cora) is not having the best of days. Her sister married a vampire, her husband dumped her, and when she decides to undergo past life regression at a party, she witnesses her own death and watches a vampire kill the one responsible. So imagine her surprise when during a house inspection with her ex-husband’s new trophy wife, she inadvertently absor

I enjoyed this book. It is the story of Dark One Alec, introduced in Zen and the Art of Vampires, and Cora, the reincarnation of Alec's Beloved who was killed hundreds of years ago. Despite Cora's initial disdain for Alec the two come together pretty quickly. Unlike in previous Dark Ones books, not much was made of the joining process itself. The focus seemed to be more on the outside conlict than on the relationship between Cora and Alex. Don't get me wrong, they had good chemistry and there wa ...more

It's not difficult for me to give this 5 stars and place it on my fave list. Katie writes with such a wonderful flair to keep you smiling and outright laughing through the majority of the book...even though our hero and heroine are placed in life or death situations. The humor more than abounds. It's so hard for a Dark One to find his beloved...they must wait sometimes hundreds of years...But Alec has lost his due to a freak accident. 3,5 Sterne - Was gut anfing, baute Richtung Ende stark ab!

I have been patiently waiting for this book to come out for what feels like forever. I love Katie MacAlister and her Dark Ones series. Heck, I love her Dragon series also. Let’s face it, I really like Katie MacAlister but… Yes, there is a but. I have looked forward to reading Alec’s story since Zen and the Art of Vampires (Dark Ones #6). I really liked his character. For as long as she can remember, Katie MacAlister has loved reading. Growing up in a family where a weekly visit to the library was a given, Katie spent much of her time with her nose buried in a book.
