After the dark, gritty events in the last book, Hidden Embers, I wasn’t quite sure where this book would take us. I was very surprised to find that it was considerably lighter in tone and that the focus had moved away from the Dragonstar clan. I was pleased by the chance to get a more well-rounded view of the world there, but I was shocked by what I found.

I’m not sure if this is the end of the series, but it does wrap up the arc about the deadly virus crippling the Dragonstars. The Wyvernmoons and their actions against the Dragonstars had them cast as the evil douches of the dragon world, so I was surprised to see a different side of them when Logan infiltrated their clan. The biggest surprise turned out to be Cecily, the last member of the royal house now that her father and brother were dead.

The Wyvernmoon ruling system put her in the position of being a princess with no real power. Females couldn’t lead, so the clan was at loose ends without her father and brother. She wanted to help her people and tried to step forward and assume control, but her past role in the clan came around and bit her, making it hard for anyone to take her seriously. Always before she had been relegated to the sidelines and left to do nothing other than look pretty, and she let it happen. Her virginity (rare for a dragon her age) and her hand in marriage were used as a bargaining chip in her father’s maneuvering. Basically, she was treated like meat and had no value to them beyond that.

A stressed Cecily stumbles upon Logan outside the Wyvernmoon boundaries and ends up falling into an attraction with him. It develops quickly, but that’s no surprise due to Logan’s plot and Cecily’s inexperience with men. They meet again and again and soon Cecily finds herself trusting Logan and confiding her problems. He eventually gains access to her home but is conflicted over divided loyalties. He can’t betray his people, but he can’t help slowly falling for Cecily.

Emphasis on politics in a society either works really well or it tends to irritate me. This one gave me that depressed, hopeless feeling. I hate when a character is stuck as a figurehead and is treated like crap by her people. It just makes me want her to give them the finger and leave them to their fates. I eventually saw the people she was determined to stand up for and why it was so important to her, but those guys at the top of the ladder on the council cast long shadows that made it hard for me to have patience. I just wanted her leave them instead of acceding to their wishes.

I liked that Logan struggled with the way he was betraying Cecily. He grew to care for her and had a hard time reconciling his feelings with the mission he was completing for his people. He never gave up his plot, which made me respect him more, but he knew there was going to be hell to pay when she found out—which there was. I was very thankful that the heroine didn’t irritate me by brushing off his actions. For her part, Cecily was sweet and nice, but she was crippled by her naivety. After stepping forward as leader she was disillusioned again and again and was forced to gain confidence in herself and stand on her own. I enjoyed watching her mature and grow stronger.

Like in the last book, there were still a lot of sex scenes that I felt could have been trimmed down, but this time around I knew it was an Erotic Romance, so I was expecting that. The author still managed to devote enough time to the plot to reveal the truth of the virus plot and to let both Cecily and Logan complete their goals. I would have liked a little more relationship development and time getting to know each other, but what we did have of it was fun. Although Cecily could occasionally irritate me with her trusting manner, both the hero and heroine were genuinely likable characters. I struggled with that in the last book, so discovering that was a relief.

I still need to backtrack and try out the first book, but what I’ve seen of this series so far has entertained me. I think I’ll be keeping an eye out to see what this author has coming next.

Some people might think that reviewing books is a great job. It is and it isn’t. On the plus side it is great because you get to read so many books and you get to discover lots of new authors whose books you might otherwise never have picked up. It was only after I got Forbidden Embers by Tessa Adams that I found out it was actually book number three in the Dragon’s Heat series. There is also a little e-book/novella, but for some stupid reason it is not available to me in my area! I started reading – now, you do need to know that when it comes to series I am quite anal I suppose you could say – I prefer to read from book one on to whatever. I do not like to read a series starting in the middle, but with this book, I had no other choice.
In this book, Logan Kelly, a sentry in the Dragonstar clan decides to infiltrate the clan called the Wyvernmoons, who are the ones behind the genetically engineered biological threat that has been decimating clan members rather ruthlessly and extremely painfully. Logan is the logical choice for this operation because he isn’t a born member of the clan – he is a rogue, having left his clan in Ireland hundreds of years ago – and I really wish that more had been revealed of why he was such, because it would go a long way to explaining who he is and what he has become.
All of his friends think that he is going to his death, but he is willing to go ahead with a plan that in their opinion has little chance of success. Logan is a bit world weary I think – after all, his king and friends have found their mates and he has no-one – yet!
This is a story that had me enthralled from the beginning. I love dragons, and sexy men, so that was already a plus. Logan is as sexy as hell – with long or short hair, without or with a scar. However, the story wasn’t just about Logan, indeed it wasn’t even about the Dragonstar clan dragons. It was more about the Wyvernmoons and the machinations going on there, now that their king was dead. To really find out what happened to him you do need to read book one in the series!
Enter the lone survivor of the Wyvernmoons royal family , the princess, Cecily Fournier. Since her father and brother’s deaths she has been trying to work out what to do and how to go about breaching the male bastion and get control. I have to hand it to Ms Adams, she wrote a heroine who was caring, sympathetic and a genuine nice person with a mean set of skills, that you liked and cared about. All this despite the fact that she comes from the clan that has been trying to decimate other dragons, but then you can put most of that down to a crazy father and some evil dragon factionnaires. (NOTE: The Dragonstars have sentries and the Wyvernmoons have factionnaires – pretty much the same thing)
By chance Logan meets Cecily and she becomes his way into the clan. Get ready for some heat because when these two meet, the fireworks start and dragon sex is hot and oh so scrumptiously sexy. For Cecily, Logan is a mystery and she begins to trust him, but will her trust be misplaced and will he betray her?
Here is where the story gets more interesting. How on earth is Logan going to cope? He is starting to care for Cecily and yet he is there to betray her. The guilt he felt and the dilemma he was placed in was something that he found difficult to resolve. Emotionally this is where the book got a lot of its strength – from the dilemma facing Logan and also the problems facing Cecily. She didn’t know who she could trust and at times she didn’t trust in herself and the path she had set herself on and her emotions went on a rollercoaster ride all the way to hell and back. I cannot imagine what it would feel like to find out that people you had trusted for a lifetime were the ones who would betray and even kill you to further their own ambitions.
This is a fantastic, emotional and fast paced novel with all the ingredients that make up a great story. It’s focus is a very compelling new world, with sexy dragons, danger, betrayal and scorchingly hot dragon lovemaking and mating. I loved this emotional tale of the two dragons so much that I went and got the first two books in the series. The book could be read as a standalone, but to get a better understanding of why Logan does what he does and the impact and the reason for the enmity between the Dragonstars and Wyvernmoons, then I would suggest reading the series in order. These dragons are all gifted and not just in the looks department! I am now wishing for my own dragon! Got any to spare Ms Adams?

Logan Kelly is a member of the Dragonstar clan. He has watched helplessly as his friends have died of a horrifying disease that targets the Dragonstar DNA. But Logan is not genetically Dragonstar. He was adopted into the clan and is grateful to them. He decides he is the only one capable of finding the virus's origins and finding a key to a cure. His clan is aware that the Wyvernmoons are behind the virus’s inception and he plans to infiltrate the clan. On his way to their stronghold, he meets a lovely dragon shifter and is caught by her beauty and innocence only to discover she is the princess of the Wyvernmoons and their heir since her father and brother died. Logan soon must decide between his loyalty to his clan and the undeniable love of his true mate.

Cecily Fournier is the Wyvernmoon princess, a title that is almost meaningless in a patriarchal clan. With the death of her brother and father, she has finally decided to try to take control and bring order to a clan that is intent on fighting within itself and with other clans. She fears for her people and only wants order and peace, but there are those in the council who work blatantly against her and those she thought she could trust who only bring false friendship. When she leaves to find a moment’s solitude at one of her favorite hideaways, she find a gorgeous and unknown dragon shifter named Logan. She is struck by an instant attraction, and as they continue to meet she finds herself confiding in him and relying on his help as an outsider. But what will she do when she discovers his real purpose?

I found this book the best and most satisfying of the Dragon Heat series to date! I really hope there will be more in this series. I especially loved the heroine. Cecily is valiant, a bit naïve, and idealist. However, she is very strong and even through she encounters, betrayals she is still able to maintain her ideals and help her clan. I also liked that the heroine is also a dragon shifter. Cecily is already part of the dragon world and this makes the story faster paced. I was also fascinated by her ‘additional’ powers. Logan is a very noble character. He is torn by his love for Cecily and his deep loyalty to a clan that adopted him. He tries his best to balance both but you know that all of it will come to a head at the end of the story. As Logan infiltrates the Wyvernmoon clan, I liked how he tried to help those who were clearly victims and had no part in the making of the deadly virus and slowly comes to realize not all Wyvernmoons are evil. I also liked that the heroine didn’t immediately forgive the hero (pushover) for his lies and this made their ultimate relationship all the more satisfying and realistic.

This is my favorite in the Dragon Heat series. Sexy dragon shifters and a hero torn by his loyalties make for suspenseful and highly emotional read.

Forbidden Embers is the third book in Tessa Adams Dragon’s Heat series and the first book that I have read in the series. I liked the book very much but I really wish that I had read the previous books because I did find myself lost a couple of times. I also felt that a lot of Logan’s back story was told in the previous books and not a lot, if any, was given in Forbidden Embers and this made it difficult for me to like and understand him. I wish that I would have been given more about Logan in the beginning of the book instead of trying to piece together the bits of information that were given.
This is one of the few books where I loved the female lead and didn’t really care for the male lead at all. I usually find that I either love the lead couple or love the male but dislike the female. I really enjoyed Cecily a lot more then I thought I was going to and I loved watching her grow from this shy princess to this strong, force to be reckoned with queen. She held her own against some very powerful males and never gave up fighting to take care of her clan. I love strong female leads and Cecily is a really great example of one.
Logan, Logan, Logan. Oh how to even begin with Logan. Logan I found to be very difficult for most of the book. There were times when he was sexy, strong and I just wanted to lick him up with a spoon but for the majority of the book he was lying, deceitful and very stubborn. I understand that he was sent to destroy the lab and the Wyvernmoon clan at any cost but I hated how he used Cecily and how he used her trust. I really hated how he acted when the truth came out and I wish that he would have tried harder to woo Cecily and win her back.
There was very little dialogue in this book and I really wish that there had been more, a lot more actually. I really wanted more between Logan and Cecily. She fell in love with him without knowing almost anything about him. They didn’t have deep meaningful conversations or expose their fears, hopes or dreams. They had sex, a lot of sex, and Cecily talked a lot but not a ton about anything personal. I wanted more from them and was very disappointed with what I was given.
I am going to try and read the first two books in this series and see if maybe that changes my perspective on Logan and helps me like this series a little more. I loved the action in this book and the big battle scene was really fun and exciting. The love scenes are super sexy and super steamy and I had to fan myself a couple of times. This is a good book I just wanted to like my big, alpha male lead a lot more then I did.

The problem with this book and the previous installments is that not enough information is provided regarding the main characters' pasts. Little is known about Logan's early years in Ireland and the details would have added an extra dimension to his characterization but are sorely lacking. More information is provided concerning Cecily's family history but once again it is insufficient.

When we last left the Dragonstar clan was in the middle of biological warfare with the Wyvermoon clan and out for blood. Wyvermoon has manufactured a violent virus that kills dragons, with a survival rate of zero and no cure in sight. Logan has volunteered to go behind enemy lines and take down the lab where the virus is harvested and find out who is to blame for its creation. He goes in with a single purpose, revenge. He is not going to let anything get in his way and is willing to use anyone to avenge his fallen clan mates. His plan seems to be going well, until he meets Cecily. Cecily is the princess in the Wyvermoon clan and hast been locked away most of her life. She loved her father and brother and was heartbroken when they died, but the more she learns about them, the more she questions who they really were. She wants to take her place as the queen of her clan, but the men who served her father all doubt her ability to rule, especially because she is a woman. She knows she can help turn things around for Wyvermoon, but no one seems to want to give her a chance. She is frustrated and angry when she stumbles upon Logan on the outskirts of her land. And that is where the fun begins.

One of the apprehensions I had going into this book was the lack of the Dragonstar environment. I thought not being with the characters I have come to love was going to impact the story, but I was happy to be proven wrong. Logan proved to be more than enough representation for the Dragonstar clan. Tessa also gives us a great character with Cecily and the chemistry the two of them had together more than made up for past characters absences. It was also interesting to see what has been going on in the Wyvermoon clan all this time. The expression “appearances can be deceiving” is the first thing that came to my mind as the lives of this enemy clan come into the light. Not everything is as it seems and as Logan comes to this realization his heartstrings begin to tug at him and his guilt rises. He did not expect to feel anything for Cecily and when he does, it throws a serious wrench in his plans.

While we are on the subject, the romance in this book was ridiculous! I immediately connected with both Logan and Cecily and soaked in every moment they had together. It started out hot and wild, but quickly turned so sweet. It was easy to root for them and dread the moment when Cecily discovered the truth about Logan. The feelings they have for each other ooze off the page and they became my favorite couple of this series. I knew little about each of them going in, but they both worked their way into my heart and I hope we will get to check up on them from time to time in the future.

One of the best parts of this book was the last one hundred pages that flew by! Everything was happening so fast and the heartache Cecily felt when she discovered Logan’s identity was nothing short of crushing. I was holding my breath to see how all the events turned out, and even though I had my suspicions, there were still a couple of things I did not see coming. I am not sure how all the decisions made in this book are going to affect the lives of everyone in the future, but I am eager to find out.

Overall, Forbidden Embers was absolutely fantastic and has sealed my love of this series. Tessa has not put another book in this series up on her website, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that we have not seen the end of this world. Hot dragons, scorching romance and a thrilling plot line, not sure what else you could possible want. So, what are you waiting for? If you have not read this series you need to remedy that situation immediately!(less)

My feelings were like Logan's, I was tired of the Wyvermoon's and their actions. I thought he had a great plan to do something about it, so I couldn't get why the others were so mad.

This book was even better than the first two. So much built-in conflict. Lots of incredible and inventive love scenes. Excellent external conflict and driving plot lines. Logan and Cecily made a great pair. Both very damaged and only able to survive the world as a couple. Cecily was such a strong heroine, befitting her royal status and Logan is her perfect match.

Absolutely fantastic!!! It was very frustrating at times, especially in the 2nd half of the book, but this story was amazing. I sincerely hope in her next book, she gives us little details about Logan's life with Ceciley in South Dakota. I love this series.

Loved Logan & Cecily. I was surprised when they hooked up but I probably shouldn't have been. All of Tessa Adam's Dragon's Heat book are full of surprises! I can't say this was my favorite of the series but I did enjoy it. I would give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
