We used this in the German program at my college. It compares well with other German texts (e.g., Hammar's German Grammar) but it does not replace them. I will list both strengths and weaknesses of this text.

Strengths:
1. Lots and lots of practice offered. This does pay off years down the road.
2. Lots of vocab available. It's vocab is better arranged then what you would find in Hammar's.
3. Cheap.

More a workbook than a reference or quick-reference book, Schaum's does a tremendous job ordering the most vital German grammar concepts and providing opportunities to practice with them. There are several hundred exercises. Many of them build in a logical progression, for instance going from filling in blanks to writing phrases to forming complete sentences.
