As much as I love the Amulet series, my affection pales in comparison to my fourth grade readers. Never has their been a series that they love as much as they love Amulet. Both boy and girl readers are captivated by the work of Kazu Kibuishi.

“Amulet 4: The Last Council” by Kazu Kibuishi picks up where the third volume of this great fantasy young readers graphic novel series left off. Emily and the rest arrived at the lost city of Cielis looking for help, but that's not what they find.
I started reading this series because my daughter wanted me to. She said they were really good books and I should read them too. After reading the first one, I didn't just read the next ones for her, but because I enjoy them too. And it is cool to be ab...more

Emily, her brother Navin and their bunch of Star Wars inspired friends; humans, robots, animals and elves, head to Cielis, the home of the Guardian Council of Stonekeepers, a group of the most powerful Stonekeepers. Emily hopes she’ll find help there in her battle against the Elf King.

Emily continues to look for allies and travels to Cielis only to find there's something strange going on in the city. Separated from her friends, she has to fight for a position on the Guardian Council and is transferred to the Void where she combats with other Stonekeepers to survive (think the Hunger Games in outer space) or be turned to stone.

Amulet, Vol. 4: The Last Council takes this series down an even darker path. The story gets more complex as Emily and the gang are betrayed by friends, and they are forced into deadly situations. More allies are made and even more unexpected enemies. This story just keeps you guessing.
Reading this volume, different scenes brought to mind Star Wars, Castle in the Sky, and Lord of the Rings. I love all of those works, so it's not necessarily a bad thing to be reminded of them. As I...more

It's been a while since I read the other Amulet books... This one introduced some new loyal friends to the "gang", including an adorable little dragon friend. But there were some dark parks of this book- the monsters look like the evil creatures from "Descent"... honestly, it seems very frightening, I imagine it would especially be so for children. The plot is becoming increasingly convoluted as well- which is fine for me as an adult, but I imagine a child would have a difficult time following i...more

I just finished reading the book Amulet The Last Council. It was full of action and fighting. In the beginning of the book Emily was on a ship to the councils castle. Emily is travelling with her family. She used to have pet robots but they had to take them away becuase robots are not allowed in the castle. At the end of the book, the council fights the villagers and the council have better weapons than the villagers allthough the villagers still won becuase they had magical stones to destroy th...more
This is the fourth book in the Amulet series by Kibuishi. I love this series and this book added even more to the story.
Emily and her friends travel to Cielis to hopefully get help from the Council to fight the Elf King. Things don't go as planned and Emily is thrown into a contest against other Stonekeepers to see who is worthy of a seat on the council. During this the Elf King's son is thrown into jail, and Emily's shipmates are left wandering the strangely empty town of Cielis.

The Amulet series has beautiful artwork, but occasionally has some shockingly grotesque illustrations. This one in particular has some disturbing creatures, which I unfortunately found while reading to my 3 year old little brother. These stories are geared for older children, probably 10+, but even younger kids love them if they can be helped over the scary parts.

In the fourth title in the series that has captivated many middle graders, Emily heads to Cielis, but there is something that just doesn't seem right about the place. She's taken to the Academy where she must compete for a place on the Guardian Council, but the competition isn't fair, and there is trickery afoot, as Emily quickly discovers. The colors used in the illustrations are vivid and engaging, and the storyline has enough adventure and originality to keep readers engaged. As is often the...more
I love Kibuishi's style of illustration, and this is a beautiful book. I especially loved the views of the cloud city, with all the wonderful detail, as well as all the other full-page spreads. His color is at once opaque and layered, very saturated and solid like the Disney animation style, which I much prefer to less realistic graphic novels. This would make a beautiful computer game, rather like Myst.

These books are fantastic. My 6 & 9 year old daughters love them, as the illustrations both enrich the words, and for the younger, help entice reading the words. Strong, young girl as protagonist, so great on a lot of levels.
Guilty secret is that I sneak the books out of their hands after they fall asleep, so I can read them too! :) (Don't worry, I put them carefully back) The plot is so compelling that I race through once just to see what happens, then many more times to savor the illustrat...more

Emily has finally arrived at the hidden city of Cielis, but instead of a haven and answers, she finds a city shrouded in fear and suspicion. Meanwhile, another stonekeeper is revealed, one that finally might be of help to Emily, Navin and their friends.
This volume is far more Emily centred than others in this series, as she faces the challenges of the Guardian Council. The rest of fan favourites are spear carriers and because of this, this volume may be less appealing to the male readers.

Emily and her friends believe that help awaits them in Cielis, but something is very wrong. Right away the group is divided and both groups find the city to be far from the description of what it once claimed to be. The citizens live in fear and the lively business district is in shambles. Emily must compete for a spot on the Guardian Council, but finds that there's a traitor amongst them. What's left of the Mother stone falls into the wrong hands and this shift in power sets the stage for what...more
Great art, even greater colouring. I read this together with my 7 year old son, and we both completely loved it. Cool blend of fantasy and steam-punk, classic fantasy themes but with a few twists to keep things fresh and surprising, and most importantly, LOTS of action. Good stuff for kids in here too (importance of family, of learning to trust others, of free will, etc.). Beautiful to look at, fresh and entertaining, morally grounded, and with compelling plot elements and plenty of action that...more
After having finished the first three novels, I anxiously awaited this next release. Each of the first three books pulled me in with great characters, colorful scenes, and suspenseful storylines. The fourth novel was no different, and well worth the wait.
Story overview:

I've only read a small amount of graphic novels before, and this one is one of the best ones I've read. Kazu Kibuishi's illustrations are amazing. The story itself is really good, and despite the fact I've not read the other books in the series, it didn't take me long to pick up on what was going on. Now I see why this series is so popular. After reading this I'm definitely planning on picking up the rest of this series! I'd definitely recommend picking up The Last Council. It's a great read for...more
After barely surviving the culminating events of the last book, Emily and her friends finally arrive in Cielis where the Guardian Council resides. They have high hopes of finding the help they need to defeat the Elf King, but they soon find out that the city of Cielis and the Council are not at all like they expected. Emily, Navin and their mom are separated from their resistance friends and escorted into the Academy where Emily is taken from her room and forced to compete for her spot on the Co...more
Amulet: The Last Council by Kazu Kibuishi is the fourth book in this series. I had not read the previous three before beginning this novel. The first thing I noticed when thumbing through the pages is the amazing artwork. I wish I had pictures to show but I don't think it would do this book justice.
I was able to follow the story line fairly well. I'm sure if I went back and read the first three books I would have more of the back story but it is a good stand alone as well. The story is about a...more

This story gets better and more complex with each installment. For some reason Emily is very empathetic, despite her steel will. One thing i found weird is that everyone she knows for more than 5 panels is instantly "her friend". I would think she'd learn to be more wary. The rivals and enemies are piling up, as are her friends, and I cannot wait for the next book to come out. Once again, the sweeping landscape views blew me away. Kazu Kibuishi is definitely my favorite author for this format.
As their adventure goes along they arrive at Cielis which is for some reason deserted. They aquire two more allies along the way also. To join the council you must complete a series of tasks. They meet Max in this journey who seems okay but in the end he steels the Mother Stone the mother of all amulets.

Emily and friends finally reach the flying city. But soon, Emily is taken away from everyone else and forced to undergo trials, to determine whether she will be chosen for the council.
This series honestly just gets better and better. Emily is a strong character and she'll do what she has to so she can protect her family and friends. I really love this series. The story is great and I can't wait to see what happens next. I'm really looking forward to reading the next volume.

Nothing is as it seems & nothing is as it should be.
In the last book I was thinking to myself that Emily & Trellis needed to learn to trust each other in order to get what they both want. This time I was thinking Emily needs to trust others less and herself more.
That's really all I can say about that without giving too much away.
The art is amazing, as usual and the story moves along quickly. Maybe too quickly in some spots.
Evil, evil, evil everywhere....

The art for this book is beautiful. Every new volume ups the bar. What holds back Amulet to just good from being amazing is the story. It's a good story, stiffly told by mixing the best parts of other stories together. If you've seen a couple of Miyazaki films, you've seen most of what happens in here somewhere else and done a bit more elegantly.

Amulet is one of my very favorite graphic novel series. Emily, her family, and her many wonderful friends are a joy to read about. These books are never long enough, I always want more as soon as I finish reading one. This series is the very best in fantasy and adventure. I love that it is a great series for young readers and for adults. People who don't think that Graphic novels are for them should read Amulet and it will change their minds.
Kazu Kibuishi's Amulet: The Last Council is a popular book for kids and for some teens. This book talks about a girl named Emily and her younger brother Navin who finds a bracelet for a stonekeeper. Emily accepts the amulet and is now the stonekeeper. Meanwhile, they had just arrived at Ciellis. But there's something strange, Emily is now participating in a competition to be in the council and the others are being hunted down by the council. Will she find the solution to all this?

This is one of the few series that simply gets better and better with each volume. I believe the incredible drawing and coloring in this volume is simply amazing. We see Emily beginning to reach her potential and learn from her mistakes. Emily's mother who is still wounded by her past realizes that she needs to allow Emily (and her brother?) grow as a young adult. I am truly lost as to where the story will go next, but I can not wait!
In this fourth installment of the Amulet series, Emily has arrived to the cloud city of Cielis in order to get help from the Guardian Council. But things aren't exactly what they seem, and she soon realizes that she will not find the help she seeks.
This book was just as amazing as the previous three books. I loved the gorgeous artwork and all the new characters. I highly recommend this book for readers who love adventure and beautiful art.
