The two volume Hieroglyphic Dictionary is still a very useful work. This massive work is well organized. You should buy BOTH volumes 1 and 2 in order to properly use the dictionary. Keep in mind that volume 2 contains the various indexes for both volumes and part of the huge dictionary of ancient Egyptian words and the index of all the English words. So you need both volumes!

The best parts of this volume are the indexes at the back: English-Egyptian words and on what page and column they appear, a chronology of Egyptian rulers and their cartouched names, and a list of the names of all Ancient Egyptian locations. This is perhaps the volume that I use the most.

The format and illustrations, as well as the index, make it easy to read the symbols and glyphs, and it can prove to be useful in interpreting and deciphering the meaning of numerous sacred texts.
