In the Community, there is no more pain or war. Implanted computer chips have wiped humanity clean of destructive emotions, and thoughts are replaced by a feed from the Link network.

When Zoe starts to malfunction (or “glitch”), she suddenly begins having her own thoughts, feelings, and identity. Any anomalies must be immediately reported and repaired, but Zoe has a secret...more

Well, before I set my stun gun to 'death ray', let me start things off by discussing Glitch's less infuriating flaws & misdemeanors.

First of all, the writing was rather mediocre with a lot of repetition and juvenile, clichéd, cheesy dialogue. Can't say too much about the plot either since it essentially consisted of the same predictable situations and melodramatic character interactions replayed over & over again.

Secondly, there were quite a few inconsistencies in the storytelling. Zoe...more

Warning: Possible spoilers (but do you really want to read this?)

*sigh* Oh, Glitch.

When reading a book, however horrible that book might be, I do try to find something even slightly redeemable, that could save the book from falling into my one-star abyss. Unfortunately, I truly found nothing likable or redeemable in this book. I'll be splitting my review of Glitch into four categories, and analyze each one. Those four categories are: the characters, the relationships, the writing, and the plot/...more

Heather Anastasiu’s Glitch is another case of good potential lost. In a futuristic society, computer chips are inserted into members of the public to limit their thoughts and emotions. In effect, they are one ‘community’, feeling and seeing nothing but grey and working like cogs in a machine – with the exception of ‘glitchers’, individuals who show anomalous activity. This was an interesting idea, one that had the capacity to develop into something quite exciting and gripping, but unfortunately,...more

St Martin's Press? After Evermore and House Of Night, tread very lightly. You might be able to pull off shitty Paranormal books, but when it comes to Dystopia, don't mess it up.

Wow. Looking at the reviews, I was spot on. I'm telling you, the person working at this publishing house needs to be fired or something.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't get into this. It's a DNF for me.

It's your typical dystopian lite-fiction, except the publishers want to make you believe otherwise because there are more science fiction (lite) elements in it. But really, it's the same old same old.

Controlling political entity that is vaguely controlling everyone. The main character is your typical...more

I’d like to be able to say that this is one for those readers seeking a solid dystopian YA with strong sci-fi elements, but in truth, this Glitch is not that book. At best it’s an on-trend, marketable novel aimed at fans of Matched and the like. At worst, it’s a formulaic, cliché-riddled book I feel like I’ve read several times before.

While the premise of a community hooked up to a shared network that essentially rids them of individual emotional and thought seems promising, the inconsistencies...more

Glitch is a very interesting and fascinating novel. I wasn't really into dystopian novel which are about, uh, how am I going to describe it? robot-like people? cyborg? computer chips and stuffs? Something like that, you get it right? Like Skinned or Cinder (Although I heard really a lot of good things about the latter and am planning to read it soon). Themes like that just don't appeal on me that much. But when I saw this on my friend's blog's WoW, I find it really interesting and appe...more

This book was probably definitely intended to a younger audience so there is no surprise that I found it to be a bit juvenile at parts. Based on this I really had a hard time rating it, as there were things that I really liked, but there were some things I simply needed to skip.

If you are in your teen years and you haven’t come across too many dystopian books then you probably will love this book, so just pick it up and surprise yourself by enjoying it.

As for me, I am not a teen and I’ve been r...more

I really enjoyed this story, It took me a short time to get into it, once I was able to actually read it, as its an ARC (advanced readers copy from NetGalley) and it was in a format for computer only, and I have a hard time reading on the computer. I finally got it on my Kindle, but took some work to get it there, so I was able to really read it a...more

Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press!! This is the first book on Netgalley I've been approved for. Yay!

Secrets were strictly forbidden in the Community. Of course, it had never been a problem before, because we weren’t supposed to be capable of secrets. It was secrets that started the wars and almost destroyed the planet. Secrets and lies and destructive passions. But we were saved from all that. We were logical. Orderly.
Secrets were wrong. Keeping one was wrong. But I had more than that n

Glitch was one of my most anticipated books for this year, and I am extremely glad to say that it completely lived up...and even surpassed all of my expectations! :D As I always do when I read dystopians I payed attention to the way that the world has changed and how the author has crafted their world...and I loved the way that Heather Anastasiu created hers! She described it so well, and made it stand out. I could actually picture it the way Zoe did, with everything grey and monotone until she...more

My official comments:

GLITCH kept me up long past bedtime with its quick pace, wonderfully creepy technology, and a frighteningly believable world. Fans of dystopian novels will love this delightful debut.

My unofficial comments:

I thought this book was very unique!

The idea of lacking emotions was a concept I struggled to understand and fully comprehend to how it could work in this situation of a society, never mind a love triangle. However, once I began reading the book, the story begins to unravel and the situation becomes clear of how emotions can develop and the innocence...more

The synopsis for Glitch immediately drew me in as I am a big fan of sci-fi/dystopian novels. To begin with the story was interesting, but then a romance was formed and things went downhill from there...

Glitch could have been so much better if the romance hadn't taken over the plot, because the ideas presented were, as I mentioned before, interesting. There was insta-love between Zoe and Adrien - they meet and soon after they're in love, and as if this wasn't bad enough there is a love triangle....more

First off the cover of this book is so pretty and even if I didn’t enjoy it I’m pretty positive that I would have bought this just for that fact. I’m not even a fan of pink (loathe it) and I’m in love with it. Cover art aside the book is just as fantastic and this is going on my to buy list with the other awesome books I’ve read this year.

In all honesty this reminds me a lot of 1984 by George Orwell, which isn’t really a bad thing because Anastasu really manages to make it her own with her creat...more

Warning: Some minor spoilers!

I'm just going to start off by saying that this cover is amazing and I love it and it was the first reason that I stopped and looked at this book. It's really digital, yet soft at the same time. I adore it.
Now, for the review of the content itself! :)

I Love Sci-fi Dystopia, and Glitch is going on my list as one of my favorites. Heather Anastasiu’s world-building is awesome. I love the Old World, and the underground city of the Community it's totally fantastic. I also love the characters. Anastasiu did excellent with Zoe’s character. She made me believe that this is how someone would be if they could suddenly feel emotions after never having felt them before, and by the end of this story, Zoe was becoming a strong leader. I think she will be...more

You know that feeling when you get an ARC copy of a book that you've been fantasising about since you first heard of it?

Yeah, that one. That's how I was when I was approved to read Glitch by St. Martin's Press.

As random as it may sound, one of the things I love most about dystopian fiction is the setting of the world that we now live in, and Heather has portrayed possibly one of my favourite 'scenarios' to date. A society which is controlled by what the government says is right and wrong – every...more

Cybernetically-enhanced teen Zoe Gray is glitching, and if she's found out by her rigid underground society, she'll be reprogrammed or even deactivated. As she learns to stay hidden and control her developing telekinesis, she discovers other glitchers including two boys that vie for her affections - Adrian, a boy who can dream the future and Max, a shapeshifter.

If that last sentence makes you think "oh no - not another love triangle", fear not, because the triangle is not the core of the emotion...more

I really couldn't get into this. Everything was so basic dystopian, the protagonist was a Mary Sue, and the romance was moving way too fast, to the point of insta-love. I tried giving this a chance, but it was just painful to read.

And the way Adrien (the love interest) curses is annoying as hell. "Cracking", "shunting", "godlam'd", and many more weird-ass words. I was yelling 'SHUT UP' at him the whole time.

It really was too painful for me to finish, but most of you YA dystopian fans out there w...more

Quick & Dirty: A futuristic adventure, filled with choice, friendship, and strength, taken place in a fantastic world.

Opening Sentence: I felt it coming this time.

The Review:

There has been a good amount of science fiction books. I’m a huge fan of science fiction, originating from the days of Aldous Huxley, Ray Bradbury, and even Douglas Adams. When I was given Heather Anastasiu’s Glitch to review, I was intrigued. There were promises of futuristic societie...more

I was really excited to receive this book from Netgalley, since it sounded amazing! :) It was a pretty awesome read!

Glitch is about a society where people have chips implanted that don’t let them feel any emotion or really think for themselves. Zoe has no problems with that system until she starts glitching, and she experiences her own emotions. There are also two other glitchers, Adrien and Max, that complicate a lot of things for her.

Zoe was a really likable character and I thought the way sh...more

The Basics: I enjoyed this book more and more as I continued reading. The premise is a clever twist on your classic corporation-rules-the-world dystopian and is no more implausible scientifically than most distant-future sci-fi. Some of the phrasing continued to grate my nerves throughout, but it was a small price to pay for a relatable main character, strong supporting cast, and exciting plot. It dragged a little in the middle, but then regaine...more

See more of my reviews on my blog Thoughts At One In The Morning.

My Thoughts:

My initial thoughts on the synopsis were YAY for more dystopias! Then as I was reading it, I wasn’t too sure what to make of it. It started out slightly boring, Zoe was a bit dull, but it might have been just because she was confused at what was happening to her with the glitching. Then it suddenly picked up and I got sucked in trying to understand the composition of this society and the cracks in its walls.

The point wh...more

Review:

Given I’ve been pretty into my dystopian books recently, I was really excited to receive this book. I really liked the idea of the premise, with the idea of the human race effectively having been turned into mindless drones in the name of efficiency. I was pleased to find out upon reading the book that this was actually done really well. I liked the way that the society in this book had been built up in post-apocalyptic setting, and how there...more

In Glitch, you meet Zoe a girl who is literally glitching through the mind program that is supposed to control everyone in the society. When she starts glitching, she has to learn to hide her emotions and act dronish, like everyone else. When one begins to Glitch, they also tend to develop a secret power. This part of the book had that "X-Men" feature to it with a group of kids with different abilities and a common goal.

The whole world/society, was slightly confusing...more

SUMMARY
Zoel, a teenage drone (girl) living in a futuristic world begins experiencing "glitches". Instead of viewing "the feed" which The Community links every citizen's brain to, she's actually experiencing emotions, colors and smells. This makes her a anomaly. Glitching needs to be reported immediately. Its imperative Zoel be repaired as soon as possible, there is only one problem - she likes these newly found abilities and doesn'...more

I would like to thank Netgalley and St.Martins Press for giving me this chance to review this amazing title in exchange for my honest yet sweet review.

It's interesting where there is a world where technology has cleared all humanity of any pain or emotion, and it has been working for them fine, until Zoe starts to 'glitch' out of nowhere and she has no idea what is happening or where it has been coming from.
She then starts to feel things and have her own...more

I was excited to get my hands on Glitch. I'm not sure what it is but I have developed a love for Sci-Fi/Dystopian reads. And Glitch did not fail me. Now there was some unique elements that made the book stand out but in the end it still had a typical dystopian plot in which the government is controlling everyone and there is a rebel group trying to break everyone free from it. Nonetheless it was done very well and I couldn't stay away from this book.

We are introduced to a world in which everyone...more

I found the premise of this book really inviting. There's something about a society being controlled and a girl breaking out of it that just feels like home to me! So I knew I had to give this book a try. There has been lots of pros and cons that I've read about this book but I wanted to see it for myself. It's a heavy sci-fi, complete with the whole robot apocalype-ish type of story. It's like the citizens we're only half human and...more
