My timing in reading this book has a lot to do with how it hit home for me. While I was swept away with the powerful, hard-hitting writing style and the "hell-yes" sexiness, it was the underlying message that came through loud and clear. That message will and has made this book a genre classic, of which I wish it to transcend.

Unapologetically sentimental. By turns elegiac and blunt—with the occasional breathtakingly beautiful turn of phrase. By no means a perfect novel, it is still rich with symbolism, and compassion, and searingly hot sex.
Above all, though, it is at its heart a very, very romantic story, and one whose imagery will stay with me for some time.

I have had to really sit down and think about writing this review, as I don't know if my words could ever do this book or Damon Suede's writing justice.......and HELL YES, it really is that good. In fact it is the best m/m book I have read so far.

I have no idea why the hell I waited so long to read this! Maybe I heard too many mixed opinions? Or maybe I thought it was all porn because the MCs involved themselves in porn? Wow, how surprised am I?!! This was a LOVE STORY! Not porn!! A love story between two best friends, Griff and Dante.
I wouldn't even say there was a lot of sex. Every scene was important to the progression of the story. And when they finally did have sex...real sex, Oh. My. Fuck!...more

I really loved this book...being my first m/m book I was very pleasantly surprised and I was very glad not to have to endure the unaccepting aspect. I was really dreading that part of the story--I thought for sure we would have to deal with haters in the fire department and haters in the Italian community and when we didn't, I was so relieved! Thanks to some nudging from my fellow GR members, I decided to make my first foray into the m/m genre. What a powerful story! I fell in love with Dante because Griff loves him in such a beautiful, almost tender way, without expecting anything in return. Everything for his "brother", who somewhere along the way became the love of his life. Not that he's not a looker, Dante. With his raven black curls and his midnight black eyes and his olive skin and his muscled body. Same goes for Griff by the way. The kind-hearted red-haired giant. How can you not love the guy?

Although this is not my typical genre I really enjoyed reading this book. It did start off slow for me but then once I got into I wanted more more more.. Even though this was a full length novel I wanted more of Dante and Griff together. They made such an amazing couple and their love for one another was so genuine. I will be looking forward to reading more from this author.
