Where there's smoke there's fire. . .

Since 9/11, Brooklyn firefighter Griff Muir has wrestled with impossible feelings for his best friend and partner at Ladder 181: Dante Anastagio. Unfortunately Dante is strictly a ladies' man and the FDNY isn’t exactly gay-friendly. For 10 years, Griff has hidden his heart in a half-life of public heroics and private anguish.

It’s the tenth anniversary of the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, and FDNY firefighter Griff Muir is spending it at the Stone Bone, a popular bar and hangout spot for the city’s finest. With him is his best friend and almost brother, Dante Anastagio, who much to Griff’s regret is a ladies’ man. It’s not that Griff casts any kind of moral judgment on his friend, not at all, it's just that... well, he’s in love with Dante and has been for a long time. But, it's not like Griff is...more

This is my first foray into the male/male romance genre. One of my GR friends has long been trying to convince me to try this so I told her to choose me a book and this is one she selected. I like to think that I’m an open minded reader and reviewer and I’ve been looking forward to stepping onto pastures new.

I told my husband I was about to read a gay romance between two New York firefighters and he gave me a look of unmitigated horror. “Why on earth would you want to read that?” he asked. I ask...more

***I LOVE GRIFFIN MUIR*** That is all :)

I know he's got red hair but that picture was just perfect!

I have a HUGE stupid grin in my face every time I think about this book. Why did it end? :(

Griff & Dante are besties, they work together as firemen, madre mia, we don’t have those firemen in Spain!. From the beginning of their story we know Griff is confused about his feelings for Dante. He doesn’t know if he is gay but he knows he gets a boner every time Dante is close...more

My timing in reading this book has a lot to do with how it hit home for me. While I was swept away with the powerful, hard-hitting writing style and the "hell-yes" sexiness, it was the underlying message that came through loud and clear. That message will and has made this book a genre classic, of which I wish it to transcend.

Last week, my president announced his stand...more

Unapologetically sentimental. By turns elegiac and blunt—with the occasional breathtakingly beautiful turn of phrase. By no means a perfect novel, it is still rich with symbolism, and compassion, and searingly hot sex.

Above all, though, it is at its heart a very, very romantic story, and one whose imagery will stay with me for some time.

Also: hot firemen. So—y'know—that.

I want a special button to give books more than five stars!!!

I have had to really sit down and think about writing this review, as I don't know if my words could ever do this book or Damon Suede's writing justice.......and HELL YES, it really is that good. In fact it is the best m/m book I have read so far.

When he wrote this book, he must have been feeling it from the heart...I know because I felt every emotion, from raw and deep, to sweet and endearing right along with the characters, it is ei...more

This book was so fuckin' HOT...and SWEET!!

I have no idea why the hell I waited so long to read this! Maybe I heard too many mixed opinions? Or maybe I thought it was all porn because the MCs involved themselves in porn? Wow, how surprised am I?!! This was a LOVE STORY! Not porn!! A love story between two best friends, Griff and Dante.

I wouldn't even say there was a lot of sex. Every scene was important to the progression of the story. And when they finally did have sex...real sex, Oh. My. Fuck!...more

I really loved this book...being my first m/m book I was very pleasantly surprised and I was very glad not to have to endure the unaccepting aspect. I was really dreading that part of the story--I thought for sure we would have to deal with haters in the fire department and haters in the Italian community and when we didn't, I was so relieved! I didn't feel as though I was cheated out of any drama by not having that be a part of the story. I feel like the point regarding discrimination was made...more

5 big tender Stars from me

Love is always right, but so difficult sometimes. This is not just a romance, it's more - it's a beautiful love story. A story that feels so real, with real feelings, fear of prejudice and bigotry and about believing in oneself.
Even if he had all these awful feelings for his friend, for a man, that he couldn't control. In their word, two guys together was impossible.

Two guys? Bad idea.

Hot Head was, as it appears to have been for quite a few other people, my very first m/m book. I'd read a couple other series (PNR) that featured a m/m couple in a secondary storyline, but never a full length m/m book completely focused on two men, unless you count Lover Mine by J.R. Ward, but that is so not the same!

My friend, Duchess Nicole, was in the same boat so we decided to dive into this together! I have to admit that going in, i was kind of expecting m/m porn but i was ok with that, as...more

Hot Head is critically acclaimed (by me), this book was the Kool-Aid, and by Kool-Aid, I mean the shit. I loved every fecking minute of it. It’s rough, raw and ready (wait a sec is that, not some other book). Well those words describe this book perfectly; stuffs on fire, feelings are blazing hot. The men like it rough, and they are always ready. Forget it; this is starting to sound extremely che...more

From the ashes of 911 Damon Suede has written a novel that’s raw, dialogue that’s fresh, a plot that grips you and makes your stomach ache, prose that entices, and characters that are so incredibly complex, flawed and over the top you will have no doubt who wrote Hot Head because the author’s fingerprints are all over every page. This book has all the elements I look for in an unforgettable story - drama, human tragedy, family, heart, guts, excitement, the unexpected, and above all, unconditi...more

Thanks to some nudging from my fellow GR members, I decided to make my first foray into the m/m genre. Having fallen in love with the torturous yet beautiful relationship between Quinn & Blay in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, I started to feel very differently about what m/m romance would/could be.

So, with that, friends suggested Hot Head as a good starter book. Sure, it had a couple steamy parts but what was great about this book was that you could really sense the love and deep commi...more

So this was powerful, an engrossing read with very likeable characters. I loved big, softhearted bear Griff - although he was so dense at times I wanted to smack him over the head and shout at him, Brains, much? And of course spitfire-loose cannon-Dante was adorable and über-sexy. Actually they both were acting - and especially not-talking - as if they were a little... slow. not dumb, mind you, just not that accustomed to talking, rather than acting. Which fits their characters. And set in m...more

I don't know where to start with this review...

First - In my country there are NO hot firemen. Nope. They don't do calenders cause most of them are old lol if there were hotties like Griff and Dante, I'd set my own tree on fire just to have them come to the rescue Photobucket

Second - Before I start with the story and all, I have to say the writing style was something new for me. I mean, I'm pretty good at english, have no problems reading books written in it, but here, swear to God, I sometimes had n...more

What a powerful story! I fell in love with Dante because Griff loves him in such a beautiful, almost tender way, without expecting anything in return. Everything for his "brother", who somewhere along the way became the love of his life. Not that he's not a looker, Dante. With his raven black curls and his midnight black eyes and his olive skin and his muscled body. Same goes for Griff by the way. The kind-hearted red-haired giant. How can you not love the guy?

Their story is touching in so many...more

This was a very strange reading experience for me.

See Laddie trying to keep an open mind: Things were not as strange this time around but I did have to fight against preconceived notions from my first read. I jumped into the fray Sylvester Stallone style with guns blazing and grenades strapped to my belt.

The beginning of the book almost did me in. It felt like pages and pages of inner dialogue. What I disliked about the inner dialogue was that I felt...more

I don’t even know where to start really. This book surprised the hell out of me! I expected a hot read, which it was—but so much more as well. This story, characters and writing style touched my heart right from the get go.

What I loved: full body blushes, kilts, midnight eyes, pirate smiles, the whole Anastagio family, and the huge heart! OH--Did I mention the hot sex and smoldering chemistry? Yeah, loved that too! Oooolala…

Although this is not my typical genre I really enjoyed reading this book. It did start off slow for me but then once I got into I wanted more more more.. Even though this was a full length novel I wanted more of Dante and Griff together. They made such an amazing couple and their love for one another was so genuine. I will be looking forward to reading more from this author.

Well Hell!! The last third of this book came out of nowhere, and knocked me the hell out! This is a book to read to the last page, because you get what you work for in the end. Oh yes you do!!

Now, there were quite a few things that bothered me about this book. And it took a second try to actually finish it. But if I'm man enough to bitch about what I didn't like, I'm man enough to say this was a hell of a lot better than I thought it would be.

“Your life needs an airbag. I swear, Anastagio, you should have come equipped when you were born.”
Just then Dante leaned against him, brow between his shoulder blades for a moment, so tentatively Griff held his breath. His voice was almost sheepish.
“Nah. Everyone knows I was born defective. They didn’t install you until later.”

Sweet, mind-blowing PERFECTION!

Oh boy...where to start? So this is my first group read and let me tell you I was so not prepared for how awesome this book was. I have never read anything from this author but he is on my auto-buy list for sure. He has written two beautifully strong and endearing characters that will definitely stick with me for a long time. Well, hot damn. That was an interesting read.

I find myself at a loss for words to describe my thoughts. I can't imagine spending 10 years in love with someone who seems so unattainable, especially when that person is your best friend and with whom you spend most of your time, double especially when you're not "supposed" to love him.
