Once again Kallysten sets herself apart from the masses with her own special style of storytelling. This novel was written in such a unique way that I've never read anything like it before. Each chapter is dedicated to a year in the life of one of the three main characters, Jacob. These years span from birth through his 17th year.
Another thing that's truly unique to this book is that there's really only protagonists in it. There is no real villain or conflict t...more

How sweet can be a paranormal story with a baby?
Very... very sweet
Andrew is vampire, the owner of a Special Task Force against demons, and most of all, Andrew is a widower.

The story begin is the saddest and happiest moment of his life... The birth of his son, and the lost of his wife.
When I read those first pages I was already thinking it was a big mistake... I was searching for a light book... something to distract me from the hardness of real life. Well, it took only more few pages and ever...more

This book is something special, unique plot line, beautifully executed.
Vampire partners Andrew and Nicholas are left to raise Andrew's half-vampire son Jacob after his mother dies in childbirth. This book charts Jacob's life from birth to aged 17. Andrew also runs a 'Special Enforcer Agency' that is battling the growing demon menace.
'Sometimes his daddy wasn't in his office, and that usually meant he was wrestling with Nicholas in the training room or in the bedroom. They wrestled a lot. They n...more

Heartwarming and unusual m/m romance about two vampire Dads raising their young son. Leave all your preconceptions at the door with this book. It will be nothing like you think.
This is all about the love between Master Vampire, and head of the local 'Special Enforcers' Agency, Andrew, and his wayward vampire Childe, Nicholas and how they raise their son together over 17 years. The story is told in the third person, from Andre and Nicholas' POV and later (when he's older) Jacob's.

How this story came to be...
I toyed with the idea of writing a sequel to Baby Steps for a while, to explore the idea of the 'vampire dad', and I had even started throwing down ideas for an outline But the more I thought about it, the more I wished the child would have some special abilities, too. I scraped the idea of a sequel and decided to start from scratch.
Something else I had been thinking about was the return of the demons. They were sealed away in Her Last Words, so what brought them bac...more

I know, that was a low blow, having a small baby on the cover trying to attract unaware women with the strong power of their maternal instinct… problem is that, I’m not really a motherly type, and in any case I fell for the trick. But the cover, the blurb, a mix of both pushed me not only to buy the book but also to read it as soon as I downloaded the file.

Kally!!! Have you any idea what you're doing to me woman! You're killing me here. These men of yours are really something else. First there was the delectable Brett, Leo and Anando. Then there was the delicious Marc and Blake. And now. Now!! You throw Andrew and Nicholas at me. *fans self* It's too much for my perverted wee mind to handle. Imagine that! Scandalous! I swear, I LOVED this bloody book. Loved it!! I absolutely fell in love with the vampire daddies. Christ, they are amazing!!! And Ja...more
This series is quite possibly the first series that I’ve ever read that manages to handle a relationship between two parents and a child without one or the other groups becoming props. In some books, it’s the parents who become props; the child main character needs somewhere to live and someone to feed him/her, so ta da, parents who technically exist and hover around the periphery but never actually do anything (including seem to notice that their child is involved in some manner of Serious Issu...more
I honestly didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. It was fabulous!
This was a story in which the “child” (Jacob) was a very prominent character and added so much to my reading enjoyment overall. Then, of course, there was the “Childe” (Nicholas) who was mischievous and sexy and surprisingly often the most logical of the father figures when it came to raising Jacob. I loved how the story was told in chronological chapters covering a year of Jacob’s life.

So much could have gone wrong with this book and honestly, I loved it. I can see how some may find it boring and long (it is a long one), but it was written very well and the characters in this book are well done. Each chapter is a year in Jacob's life as the family navigates a business killing demons and having 2 vampires raise a quasi human baby. In the end the same things transpire as you would think in a 'normal' household, bullies, dangers, girlfriends, drinking, learning to fight, super hu...more
This was such a lovely story.
Although, there were a few things that it bothered me a lot, for example when Andrew hit Nicholas and physically harm him because Andrew was upset with him...to me that is plain and simple physical abused.
Andrew wasn't a nice vampire, he was a very jealous person, so strict that he behaved like an idiot, and if it wasn't for Andrew I don't know what would have happened to that child, also, Andrew sometimes treated Nicholas like shit, for sure Andrew wasn't one of my...more

Now this was a good book. Good, interesting characters that were developed and you invested in; very unique storyline and twist on vampire theme and some humor; I enjoyed it very much. That said I would have liked a little more delving into the storyline of Andrew's demon hunting and something resolved there and maybe something on the fact that he had a human child and what was going to happen or how they planned on handling his mortality and all but I understand there are more books so maybe it...more
I really liked Fangs and Lullabies. It is the first book in Kallysten’s The Demons Age series. I have read book two and absolutely loved it, I think I would have loved this one much more as well if I had not already read book two, Demon and Lullabies.
In these two books we get snapshots throughout Jacobs’s life. Not just one page stories, they are pretty long and ordered correctly as his life went, and that of his parents, until he is seventeen years old.

This was an interesting mixture of heartwarming and brutal. Jacob is a unique individual born to a vampire and a human. His mother dies right off, without even seeing her son. Jacob's POV is introduced when he is only 2 which was very well written. Trying to write what a 2 year old would think and feel would be difficult but the author really pulled it off. Andrew is Jacob's father and a vampire. Vampire's aren't allow to raise children and with Jacob's unique birth Andrew is even more concerned...more
This book starts with Andrew and Cara. One vamp and one human. Both made a child by mixing both dna. Now 9 months on and Cara has passed away in childbirth and Andrew is left to bring up the baby by himself.
A bit further on in the book when Andrew is learning to bring up the baby (Jacob). He gets a visit from a Vampire named Nicholas turned up wanting to stay. Andrew was the one to change Nick into a vampire but made him leave because he couldn't stop killing humans but now he's back and given u...more

4.5 stars for this new (at least to me) take on the "one child, two dads" theme. The premise of two male vampires raising a non-vampire boy really appealed to me. I also liked how the author broke the story down to time periods within the child's life as he was growing up.
Overall this was a really good book and I look forward to reading more from this author.

I love vampires, but...
I don't usually like kids in my books, however without Jacob there would be no story. This is a totally different story than most books I've read as it's told in snippets and not a lot of time is spent on the details. The entire book covers the first 18 years of Jacob's life, from his tragic birth to how he is being raised by his two vampires dads, Andrew and Nicholas.
I will definitely be moving on to the next book. I need for Andrew to tell Nicholas he loves him or I wil...more

This book surprised me. It was very sweet without being sappy or boring. I really enjoyed the pieces in Jacob's (the son) POV. I also really liked how each chapter was a portion of each year of Jacob's life from 1 - 17. I think that helped it from dragging.
It didn't have much drama, but I didn't feel like it wasted any of the pages, either. Definitely recommended.

Loved this book. Loved that the author gave the vampires a humanistic aspect. Loved that she even thought about the unlikely subject matter of a vampire begetting a human child. Also love the enduring and evolving relationship between Sire and Childe in Andrew and Nicholas. Amazing Work. Couldn't bear to stop reading.

This would be one of the best books with children that I've read. Although I didn't like the opening scene. I don't like love-triangle. Besides, most of Jacob & Nicolas' scenes involved sex, that slowed the story down and got old real fast. The boy was very cute but the the romance part was not very satisfying.
I really love this book!
Is different from other vampire books: romance/companionship and forming a family, with a little action on the side.
The relationship between Andrew and Nicholas and how it evolves with time is great.
The love they have for Jacob and how they raise him is really sweet.
This book is a must read.

I didnt realize this was going to be part of a series. The ending just drops off and leaves you hanging!!! But it was a great read.

! I took something like 2 lines understand the scene was another (and thanks GOD Jacob was not there with his father and Nicholas)! I went on, still thinking how gross that could be!
