This is the second book in a three book series! This book has a lot of the same characteristics as do typical love story type Amish books that have been out on the mass market in recent years. However, I thought this one stood out because most of the book is from the view point of a male character (Chris) in the story. He is not Amish himself but comes to visit Jenny (the main character of the first book in the series). The storyline kept my interest. There was a love story/mystery going on in...more
What would it be like to walk in your barn and find a handsome Englischer in your barn loft? That’s what happened to Hannah Bontrager, an Amish young lady living in Paradise Pennsylvania. However, when Hannah’s brother Matthew walked in, he was not too happy about the situation.

My 2 Cents:
First let me say Matthew's sister is named Hannah not Rebecca like it mentions in the description.
Barbara Cameron is one of my favorite Amish writers. This is the 2nd book in the quilt series and I loved this book just as much as the first. You could read this book as a stand alone as it gives a little bit of detail from the first one. You would no be lost. Now if you are like me you want to read the series in order.

This is an excellent book. I highly recommend it. It is best to to read them in order though it can be a stand alone book. This is the first Amish book I have ever read and I was highly impressed! Barbara Cameron did a great job. She showed that the Plain People are just regular people and make mistakes and are fallible just like the Englisch. The characters were well written. I struggled through the beginning of this book. Some of the ideas and possibilities seemed just a bit much to begin with, not at all what I have come to expect in the "Amish Romance" genre. Had we not had an ice storm going on, I might not have finished the book. That would have been my loss.
Soon however, I was totally enthralled with Barbara Cameron's plot and how visiting Engischer Chris Matlock's past was changing people's futures.

It was fun to revisit Jenny, Matthew, Phoebe, Hannah, and the kinner in Paradise. Chris, an Englisch acquaintance of Jenny's, comes looking for peace while dealing with physical and emotional injuries of war.
I just loved this book and I could not put it down. I read it in 1 day!!

A Time to Heal is the second book in the Quilts of Lancaster County series. We are reacquainted with Jenny, Matthew, Phoebe and Hannah in this book. This second book once again brings us into the parallelism of the two worlds, the Englisch and the Amish. Chris Matlock follows Jenny to Lancaster County looking for peace and finds love and trouble. The turmoil he feels is prevalent throughout the entire story and the reader can’t help but feel sorry for him. At times though I thought he was so sel...more
If you can suspend enough disbelief, this is a sweet light read featuring many of the same characters as A Time to Love. If you an believe a guy who met a married woman one time for a few hours would show up on her doorstep, not having any real plans, if you can believe this Amish family would take in this ex-solider, who had no trouble adjusting to their way of life, if you aren't looking for anything too deep, then this book is ok. It shows a lot of details of daily Amish life, including how m...more
i really liked this book it keep my interrest through out. I connected to all the characters. I really felt bad for Chris he was a soldier that was wounded, he knew Jenny and met her at the hospital. He wanted to see how she was coping after the war. So when he was released from the hospital he went right to paradise to see her. That is when He meats Hannah she is Jenny sister in law she is a determind, caring amish person who is very pertective of her family. they were attractive to each other....more
This is book 2 of a trilogy series. I actually read this one after I read book 3 "A Time For Peace" but even though I knew the basics of what happened, it was well worth the read since it went into detail. The story is fun, romantic, relaxing. It was hard to put the book down as I wanted to know what will happen next. I will say I was slightly disappointed in the ending. I expected more on what happens with Hannah & Chris once they reveal their feelings to each other and realize they are mea...more
I find the Amish books to be interesting; I learn more about their simple life with each one I read. The "forgiveness" aspect of their lives is amazing to me; I do not believe that I would be able to forgive those who wronged me. Although not mentioned in this book, my thoughts turned to the killer of the children in the Amish school, and how the entire community forgave the killer. Although murder was not committed in this book, forgiveness was bestowed on the "bad guy." The hero was almost "to...more
I liked this book for its inspirational aspects. I was looking for an easy read and this certainly is. It also left me inspired to slow down in life and enjoy the simple things. I like books based in Amish communities for their focus on family, values, and God. And the reminder that there is so much beauty in a simple life.

I had a bit of trouble shelving this one, it's not really fluff although it is a love story. It's not really hobby although we did actually see Hannah in a quilt shop. But hobby books usually make me want to go work on something or at least give me ideas for a project.
This is the 2nd book in the Lancaster quilts series and we actually did mention quilt blocks without describing them. It's more a book about healing and forgiveness just as the title implies. Yes, I will be moving on to the next bo...more

This book tells the story of Hannah, Matthew’s sister. She is now living with Jennie’s grandma. She really wants to find the right guy and settle down and have a family but the right man has just now shown up. She tries to be patience but she struggles with waiting on God’s timing. Then one day she finds a Englishman in the barn and she finds herself attracted to him. Could this be God’s plan for her or will she just have to keep waiting?

If you enjoy a good read with some insights into the Amish way of life, this is a good book for you! An ex-soldier looking to heal his damaged soul and a young Amish woman find themselves caught up in an attraction that is not approved of when his past comes back to haunt him.
In order to set things straight, they risk all.
Again, Barbara Cameron gives us a glimpse into the lives of the Amish, who, are so very much like other humans, both good and not-so-good, with very human flaws.

I just love these Amish stories that were written by this author. When I was a kid my grandparents owned a cottage by a lake in Amish country. I thought that their language was similar to German upon speaking to the father I found I was off the mark. After reading this book I have found that the Amish does not shun all technology just bits that are not useful to the community and for business purposes only. This series is written well and I do enjoy these books.
Okay, the library didn't have this when I finished #1 in the Quilts of Lancaster County ... so I read #3 first. When #2 (a time to heal) came in, I wasn't sure I wanted to read it "since I knew what happened". SURE GLAD I DID!!!
If you want a 'taste' of what PSD (a solider coming home from war) goes thru - this is your book! There is suspense and struggles within relationships weaved into the family dynamics of this stranger showing up in Lancaster County.

Book two in this series, very similar to the first book (A Time to Love). Most of the same characters and obviously the same setting, so it was nice and familiar, in a comforting sort of way. Still had a bit of unbelievability to it. I just have a hard time seeing that modern day military type people would give up the conveniences of "our world" to become Amish. But, still a good story and I plan to read the final one in this series, A Time for Peace.
I've got to admit that I read this book because the 1st one in the series was a free book from Amazon that I was able to download to my kindle app. The first book was pretty good, at least it was good enough to find the 2nd book at my library. This book, too, was pretty good. Held my interest pretty well, and it's interesting reading about the Amish people or "plain people" as they called themselves in this book. I would recommend it as a good read. However, the 3rd book in the series seems to b...more
