When you have the image of Joe Manganiello in your head as you read about the werewolf and hero named, "Cooper," it makes for quite an enjoyable read! Fun. Escapism. Light. Funny. Steamy. For me, these words describe How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf perfectly. This book is to paranormal and shifter books what Stephanie Plus is to crime thrillers, but the heroine is more skilled, sane and adept than Stephanie Plum. “Mo”, the heroine, has the crazy family she is ambivalent about, a funny female side kick, lots of men attracted to her, a former failed relationship, two men that are (seriously) interested in her, and a contentious relationship with the man that makes her heart race. Kind of like Stephanie Plum right? Maybe, but that is where the similarity ends. While How to Flirt is not heavy and is a whole lot of fun, it seems to have a little more substance than Stephanie Plum. But the comparison for me ends there. Perhaps, because I haven’t read a lot of funny PNR or UF. And because of that, this book was a breath of fresh air to me.

It is such a relief to read a PNR/UF book that might have a touch of criminal/police activity but isn’t rooted in police technical talk. There is a sort of mystery, but it seems obvious that the bad-doer isn’t what is supposed to be obvious – if that makes sense.

I love the whole leaving society, leaving what I know to make myself over theme. I am a sucker for the romanticism of moving to a remote place with harsh weather like Alaska. And that is what How to Flirt presents itself as. Of course the heroine immediately loves and finds herself enmeshed in the new local culture. Unbelievable, but fun.

Will this paranormal romance based book change your life? Probably not. Will it leave you wanting to rush into #2 in the series (which seems to be the last one written by the author with a new one to be released sometime this year)? No, but you will want to read it eventually. What this book will do is make you laugh, give your mind a break and let you have some fun.

PLOT with NO MAJOR SPOILERS : Solid. An interesting, coherent story line. Mo (her full name is such a kick!!) moves all the way from Mississippi to Grundy, Alaska to escape her meddling hippie parents. Cooper moves across Alaska to escape his memories and his family. Mo is 30 years old, single, "fairly attractive," a great cook, and addicted to lacy La Perla underthings. She instantly gets the hots for Cooper, a gorgeously ripped wilderness guide. He is hot for Mo, too, but is always so growly and grumpy that she looks instead toward the forest ranger, Alan, for companionship. (With a male-female ratio of 20 to 1, she's got her pick, but most are old farts.) Mo and Cooper dance around their mutual attraction for about 1/3 of the book -- there's some banter and repartee as the sexual tension climbs. In several serious scenes, a mysterious black wolf is seen in town. Some of the locals are attacked by a wolf. (Some sadness, a bit grim, some tense scenes.) The plot also revolves around various members of Cooper's family, especially his sister Maggie.

SUSPENSE: I didn't figure out who the killer was until well into the book. No give-aways, but some clues along the way. Some red herrings, too.

CHARACTERIZATION: Good character development. I grew to care for the variety of old timers who hung out at the Glacier restaurant in Grundy, where our girl Mo works as the new short order cook. I chuckled as Mo became accustomed to salmon, snow, and small town insulated society. Loved how she formed relationships at the café. At first I wasn't too nuts about Cooper, but once he gave in to the attraction....yummy.

LOVEMAKING: The first love scene takes place about 1/2 into the book. It's hot. Cooper has a magic mighty morphin penis -- yup, that's what she wrote -- and ninja werewolf sperm. Mo has a bulk box of 100 condoms. What more can I say? Several sexy scenes by the fire, in bed, etc. Cuddling, kissing, nipping, licking...

VOICE and STYLE: First person POV. Humorous, with a dry wit. Fairly light, but some scenes are handled seriously. Lots of references to popular culture (ninja, Bill O'Reilly, the B52s, La Perla lingerie, etc.). Some F-bombs and religious swear words -- could do without that -- but not a lot of cussing. Some grizzly stuff, but not too bad. Not nearly as bloody as the UF books by Patty Briggs or Ilona Andrews.(less)

This was my first time reading one of Molly Harper's books and I must say, I really enjoyed it. How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf is a light, cute, happy-ending type book that is a great mood booster. I was smiling almost the entire time. Whether it was the hilarious battle of wills between Mo and Cooper, their incredibly unusual love story or just some of the quirky townsfolk. This book is a fun mix between chick lit and paranormal romance.

The first few weeks of Mo and Cooper's so-called relationship is one of the best parts of this book. They're both exceedingly hard headed and grew up in very different but equally messed-up environments. Together they're like fire and dynamite. The witty back-and-forths between these two are priceless. Coincidentally, they turn out to be just as explosive in bed! So when Mo and Cooper aren't hurling sarcastic jabs at each other they're fogging up the windows in her rental cabin!

Mo is a great girl, someone who I'd want to be friends with. She just can't seem to do anything the normal way. That probably has something to do with the fact that she was raised by hippie parents. Mo finds herself forced to go to extremes to get away from them and their crazy ways so she moves to Alaska. That takes guts in my books! Furthermore, it doesn't take her long to blend in and not be considered an outsider anymore. Mo really gives it her all and discovers that she's actually happier than she's ever been living in the great white North! Sure, it's a little cold, but that's why you shack up with a werewolf, right?

Cooper is a little, okay very rough around the edges but that's part of his appeal. Sometimes he's more wolf than man but not all wolfish traits are undesirable in a boyfriend so he has his good points too. He's so devoted to Mo and looks out for her which saves her from numerous sticky situations. So Cooper kinda has that whole knight in shinning armor thing going on too. Yeah, he's a stud.

There's also a bit of a mystery going on in the storyline that causes conflict between several characters and finishes with a surprise ending. I was impressed with Molly's plot writing skills! I expected the romance and the cutesy stuff but the bad guy came out of no where however, when revealed made perfect sense. Well done!

There was just enough werewolf lore included to make the story interesting while keeping it straight forward. I appreciated the inclusion of things like a wolf pack, alpha male and mating instincts. I'm going to keep my eyes open for the sequel: The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf out March 29th, 2011. I was pleasantly surprise by this book. How to Flirt with a Named Werewolf made me an instant Molly Harper fan!(less)

Such a fun book! I listed it as urban fantasy, but it more romance and humor with a paranormal twist. it was great as an audiobook because the humor made me laugh out loud a lot of times. This book is fun and humerous with big slice of romance and a dash of mystery on the side. There are lots on great one liners and emminently likeable side characters especially our protagonist Mo. Mo is one of those characters you can't help but to love form the first minute you meet her. I loved hearing about her unorthodox upbringing and her parents, but if I had those parents (they bring the term helicopter parents to a whole new heights) I would have made a run for the great north tundra. I especially loved it that she had to do all of this on the sly and wouldn't give them her contact info. I love my parents, but I love them even more 300 miles away, so I can relate.

The quirky characters filling the town had me laughing. I loved the restaurant/saloon that seemed to be the social center, one where they all gathered to meet, talk, and had all of their events. Mo and Evie's burgeoning friendship was great for laughs in their "girls" days.

Along with Mo, I didn't like Cooper at the start. He was an ass with no redeeming qualities, who really had to work hard to overcome, at times I didn't think he was going to be up for it. At first I thought it was just with Mo that he was like that with, but as the story progressed we saw Cooper was like that with the whole town. It is not until after you hear his whole story that you understand why.

I also really liked that from the first day Mo meet Cooper she didn't put up with his crap and actually called him on it. It was surprising that with his feelings for Mo, that Cooper went to Mo for help when he really needed it, and then showed her his biggest secret. Once he decided on wanting Mo, Cooper sure was the alpha male and didn't waste any time.

Meeting Cooper's family sure added another dimension to him. I wish there was more of Pops he was a card, Sampson had me laughing with his on purpose innuendo, and Maggie just plain drove me nuts. The others that we meet of the pack were interesting. The issues that were within the pack was something that I didn't see coming until Mo did.

Overall this book was so much fun to read, it had me laughing out loud so often through the book. I can't wait for more tales from Alaska!(less)

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper is one of those books that will make you laugh out loud and elicit a gambit of emotion. The building up of the love connection is artfully done. Ms. Harper also administers a good who-dun-it mystery in with the amalgamation of her book. Plus, she has filled this book with wacky characters and comical, snarky one-liners. This was the most fun I have had reading a book in a long while.

Mo is a regular girl raised in an irregular family. Her parents are controlling and the story begins with her moving/escaping to Alaska to have a life that's not constantly invaded by them and their beliefs. I love Cooper. He sure knows how to make an entrance and sweep a girl right off her feet. Cooper is probably one of the surliest, most pain-in the butt, sexiest werewolves I’ve come across; he makes me bite my bottom lip. And then there is Mo: a girl who has overcome her crazy past and made a name for herself. She’s nice, but stands up for herself and the people she loves when needed. My kind of girl. And here is what got me from the beginning: who hasn’t thought about packing up and moving to some obscure location to simply find yourself? I think about that at least twice a year. I found myself smiling more, and more while reading this novel. I found myself falling in love with Cooper from the moment she described him, and his cocky and angry attitude. From the way he shuts her up, to the way he shows up at her house I was completely taken. If Cooper were real I would be having his Pups. Now, I was quite shocked because there is a bit of a mystery that ties in with the romance and usually I am good at calling who the “bad guy” is, but I couldn’t pin point who it was until it was revealed. It was pretty well hidden which makes me even happier. There was something that I didn’t like about the book mainly Mo…just a little tiny bit. She seemed too perfect sometimes (this may be my jealousy over Cooper come out too). I found myself swept away to a small obscure town like I’ve dreamt about doing so many times, and while I was there Molly Harper told me a love story that sizzled my skin from head to toe while giving me an adventure along side it.
Good:
Cooper—I definitely have no complaints about sexy, sexy Cooper. Other than the fact that he is not real. Or, maybe he is and I just need to have a really really long road trip.
Mo—She independent and has gotten away from her over bearing flower-power parents and created a life for herself.
Maggie—She has some anger-management issues. Or maybe she just has some girl power. Either way…her character makes me smile a little.
Allan—I did like you Allan.
Bad:
Mo—sometimes she seemed just a little too perfect.
Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):
Overall the story was well written and the characters were extremely enjoyable. I loved reading and watching as the plot and the characters evolved, and I loved when Cooper said things and/or did certain extremely sexy things that I know every girl would have loved their man to pull off just as effectively. I laughed, I cheered, and I even got angry sometimes. Molly Harper keeps you on your toes and your heart pounding with her supernatural romance that is sure to bring a smile to all her reader’s faces.(less)

This was definitely a 3.5 Star book. I laughed a lot and Mo was a hilariously witty character. I would like to say that Cooper was an awesome hero but well, I don't really feel like he was more than a secondary character even though he was the love interest. Let me just say that I really enjoyed this book, I will definitely read it again and I would recommend it to everyone who likes reading funny romances. There were just a few things that annoyed and bothered me.

Any other woman would have walked away from him but something about those two make you know they are right for each other from the beginning. (NOTE: I would have walked away from him but I am glad she stuck by him if that makes any kind of sense at all). Evie, Buzz, Alan, and the town of Grundy do a good job of rounding out this cast of very lovable characters. The love story plays out in a very unique way and was perfectly paced for the two character involved.

What I Liked: The "who is hurting people" storyline was not obvious and that made it interesting. I liked that it was more of a way to bring Cooper's pack into the storyline (can't wait for book 2 because I think the pack was fantastic with its wide array of characters) than to actually strive to have a murder mystery. As a plot device for Maggie and Cooper, I think it worked very well.

Complaints: Not enough Samson--I think he is going to be a fun character through out the whole series.

Why I gave it a 4 and started the Snort Club: Sometimes books just happen to hit you just right. They make you laugh when you want too and give you a lead character that you see parts of yourself in (or at least see personality traits you wish you possessed). This book did all of that for me! It was funny, endearing, quippy, and just laugh out loud funny at times. Everyone was very real and down to earth (even the werewolves). You were just left with a really good feeling when the book ended.

Who I would recommend this too: Chick-lit and PNR readers who like the lighter fair. This is a perfect book to squeeze in after an emotionally draining or high action read. You will be glad you did :)

It is beyond me why people with annoying voices decide that it is their calling to narrate audio books. Enter Amanda Ronconi, narrator of Molly Harper’s book. Cooper may treat her with hostility much of the time, but Mo begins to see some similarities between him and the giant wolf who has saved her life and continues to watch over her. Her suspicions that Cooper is a werewolf are eventually proven true. In spite of the tension between them, they eventually fall in love.

Unfortunately, this love story is complicated by several area murders and attacks. People are being killed by a rogue wolf, and no one has been able to catch the animal. Cooper doesn’t remember his actions while he is in wolf form, so he considers himself a suspect in the attacks. Is Cooper a killer? And if it isn’t Cooper, then who is responsible?

Review: This book started out as a cute story with plenty of witty comic relief. I enjoyed Mo’s character, as well as her frequent stories about her crazy parents. Those stories about her childhood were the best parts of the book. I was a little less enthralled with the male characters in the book, and that was mostly due to the fact that we don’t know much about them. I never felt much of a connection to Cooper, nor did I understand Mo’s connection to him.

As far as the storyline, I thought it felt very familiar. It had an extraordinary number of parallels to The Twilight Saga. If you ever wondered what Bella Swan’s life would have been like if she had only met Jacob and the wolf pack when she moved to Forks (no vamps), then this would be that alternate universe. Here are some examples of the similarities between the books: the main character being more adult than her mother, moving North into the wilderness, cooking every day, falling for someone who acted like he hated her at first, suspicious animal attacks, not choosing the “easy” relationship when given the choice, being left behind by the man she loves because he is trying to save her life, Cooper being the true alpha of his pack even though he is not taking on the responsibility, and there is even a half-breed baby involved at the end.

The further I read into this book, the less I enjoyed it. As soon as I started recognizing the parallels between this story and Twilight, this book became predictable and much less engaging. I found myself thinking “that was just like Jacob Black” or “that happened in New Moon“, etc. I should have been focusing on the characters in THIS book, but instead I was thinking about characters from a different series. That shouldn’t happen.

Harper does a great job writing witty, sarcastic dialog and funny situations. She clearly has talent in that regard. If her story elements had been more unique, I would have given this book a higher rating. I’m willing to give this author another chance because she does have strengths. Hopefully this was an anomaly.

So I obviously was inspired by last week's Book Blogger Hop for the crazy book title. I decided to actually read the silly book and see if its as funny inside as it was outside and I must admit, it was better.

I loved Mo with her witty remarks and comebacks. She was like the more outspoken me (minus the crazy hippie parents who caused her to run across state lines to get away). She was a fresh new face (which of course the men LOVED) and she settled into the small town life well. I just loved reading to see what she would say back when someone said anything particularly rude or funny, especially to the werewolf the title refers to.

How to Flirt with A Naked Werewolf had the typical brooding sexy specimen of man who didn't want to get close to anyone. He was generally rude to everyone and I initially hated him; however, our lovely Mo (being as superb as she is) called him out on his rudeness every chance she got and eventually got under that tough exterior (literally....this is not a PG-13 book here). Moving along with normal paranormal books, we also have the "nice guy" who's in love with Mo, who she can only see as a friend and all that crap. I must say, although Cooper (said werewolf) was sexy, and hot, and mysterious, and the epitome of a man (remember...NOT PG-13...sheesh, I think I want him too), I did not like the fact that Alan (said nice guy) got played. She kept forcing herself to think of him as more than a friend but somehow she couldn't and I always felt so bad for him. Regardless, this story had a cute love story that I loved. It was fun and exciting and entertaining.

That being said, there are only a few things I didn't like. First, sometimes things happened and I had no warning. I would think, "Wait, how did I get here? Did I skip a page?"It seemed like decisions were made and i wasn't aware of how they were made. I only had that experience twice but it still made my upset for two seconds. Second, Although I loved Mo most times, sometimes I just thought she was an idiot. I don't care how mad anyone is, it is not okay to be rude to overstep boundaries the first time you meet your boyfriends family (you'll see what I mean). Furthermore, as you can see by the description, Mo suspects Cooper of killing people in the town, which, if you ask me is kind of stupid since people are supposed to be innocent until proven guilty...especially the one you love is said person and you know he isn't that kind of person. That made me upset.

Despite those minor flaws, I loved this book. I would recommend it to anyone who would want a fun read. It had me laughing out loud and giggling to my hearts content. I loved the easy banter and the atmosphere of the books. The supporting characters also gave me a little laugh. It was a great read!(less)

In high school, when other girls my age were writing poems about dying unicorns and bleeding roses, I was writing essays about having political arguments with my dad at the dinner table. (Whoever made the other person laugh at their own political party won the argument.) I knew I wanted to write when I grew up, but I also knew there was very little chance I could make a living writing books, so I went for the next best thing – newspaper writing.

I majored in print journalism at Western Kentucky University and used my shiny new degree to get a job at my hometown newspaper. I married my high school sweetheart, David, a local police officer. And for six years, I wrote about school board meetings, quilt shows, a man “losing” the fully grown bear he kept as a pet in his basement, and a guy who faked his death by shark attack in Florida and ended up tossing pies at a local pizzeria.

I loved my job at the paper. I loved meeting new people every day and never knowing where I would end up. But somehow, the ever-shifting schedules of a police officer and a reporter did not equal "family friendly." One of us needed to take a normal job for the sake of our young daughter. I took a secretarial position at a local church office, which left me with dependably free evenings for the first time in my adult life. David was working the night shift that summer and I was losing.my.mind. We were living in "The Apartment of Lost Souls" while building our new home. This was the place where appliances and small electronics went to die. Every night I would tuck our snoozing child into bed and wait for the washing machine to start smoking or the computer to suddenly flash the "blue screen of death." Then there was the plague of frogs in the bathroom that put our daughter of potty-training for about six months.

Normally, when things get tough, I can take solace in reading. But I surveyed my packing box of favorite books with the apathetic air of someone who stands in front of the open refrigerator for 10 minutes and can't find anything. Nothing sounded good. So I just sat down and started writing something I would want to read.

Being a huge fan of vampire movies and TV shows, I wondered, what would be the most humiliating way possible to be turned into a vampire- a story that a vampire would be embarrassed to share with their vampire buddies over a nice glass of Type O. Well, first, you'd have to make the protaganist a bit of an accidental loser. She's single, almost 30, and a librarian working in the small Kentucky town where she grew up. This "triple whammy of worry" has made her a permanent fixture on her Mama's prayer list. And despite the fact that's pretty good at her job, she just got canned so her boss could replace her with someone who occasionally starts workplace fires. She drowns her sorrows at the local faux nostalgia-themed sports bar and during the commute home, she's mistaken for a deer and then shot by a drunk hunter. And then she wakes up as a vampire.

And thus, Jane Jameson and the wacky denizens of Half-Moon Hollow were born.

It took me almost a year to complete and edit a draft of the book, which I planned as the first in a three-book series. I spent three months using agentquery.com to ruthlessly stalk potential literary agents. (There were a lot of lists involved, I don't want to re-live it.) I was gently rejected by at least half of them. I corresponded with some very nice, very patient people, but ultimately signed with the fabulous Stephany Evans of Fine Print Literary Management.
