Have you ever felt like you don't want to stop reading a certain book? Well, that happens to me when I read Lunarmorte by Sam Young. It's a story about werewolves, whose origins are said to be related to Greek gods. The characters in this book are well-described, and they really shine with their respective personalities.

Oh wow... This was... Was just amazing. I was wiggling with excitement when I started this book and it did not disappoint. I loved it! It's one of the best books I have ever read! It had almost everything I loved: Werewolves, Greek Mythology, Hot Guys, Humour, Action etc. Of course there were parts that made me want to go all 'Edward Cullen' on my pillows but those moments weren't very often and were short lived. I love werewolf stories and am always fascinated by the way authors depict their transformation and their interactions with each other. Moon Spell is a great example of how to introduce readers to an indepth paranormal world while still maintaining an interesting plot from beginning to end and well-written characters.

The heroine of the book is Caia who has been kept separated from her pack ever since her parents' untimely death years ago. For reasons unknown to her, she was spirited away and hidden in the human world. Now that there is a new Alpha, she and her guardian, Inari, have been summoned to return to pack life and Caia must become re-acclimated to life among her fellow werewolves.

I really enjoyed Caia as a character. She is a great and realistic narrator who is aware that she is a werewolf, but has little experience with the pack world. Her observations about pack dynamics and her confusion about her origins correspond well with how the reader will most likely react to the story. As a character, she was strong-willed and very intelligent. Her initial awkwardness is endearing and it is fun to watch her make friends with some of her packmates.

Caia's love interest is the pack's Alpha, Lucien, who recently returned for a self-imposed exile to claim his position through inheritance and a bloody fight to the death known as the Lunarmorte. One of his first orders of business was to allow Caia to return to the pack and be under his protection for reasons unknown to her. I found the concept of a young Alpha to be original and definitely appropriate for the mood of the series. Lucien is a strong leader and willing to do anything for his pack, but he is still learning and makes mistakes along the way. I think a fun part of the series will be watching Lucien come into his own as the Alpha.

Due to Lucien's protectiveness, Caia and him are forced to interact beyond simple packmember and leader. They are attracted to each other from the get-go, but Caia especially is unsure about the relationship. This causes a lot of tension between them which is only compounded by their growing friendship. I really enjoyed seeing them grow to know each other before a certain event happened that threw a wrench into the whole love story. I have a feeling this is just the beginning for Caia and Lucien and I can't wait to see more of them.

There are alot of side characters introduced in this book and it can get a little confusing. But, the author understands this and makes a conscious effort to make each one unique in their own way. And I didn't mind the confusion because Caia also seemed a bit overwhelmed at times by all the pack members. Some of my personal favorites were Sebastian, the almost-rival for Caia's affections and Malik, the arrogant asshole one minute and protector the next.

The mythology of this series is absolutely fascinating and I feel like we have only seen the tip of the iceberg. Due to the pack's isolation from the rest of the supernatural world, there is little information provided about vampires, fairies, and warlocks, but what we are given is intriguing. The conclusion of this book makes me excited to see how the pack deals with having to be involved in the bigger picture once again.

Lunarmorte is a fantastic debut book, that is rich in detail and rooted in ancient greek mythology. I absolutely loved Lunarmorte's wolves. I really enjoyed feeling apart of their world and getting to know the pack members and seeing their dynamics through seventeen year old Caia. Hidden and protected for the last ten years, Caia is just now returning to her pack. I liked how realistic her transition was, and finding out what secrets the pack has kept from her, and I felt the various emotions she went through in finding out more about her family and the history of her pack. Caia is a wonderful character and she had me laughing out a loud with her wit and sarcasm. She really grew the most, as she starts off shy and a little naive, but quickly grows into a strong, independent character as she learns more about who she is and how to use her powers. I was most fascinated with Caia's "hidden" power. I won't say what that is, to keep this review spoiler free, but Samantha Young knows how to through in some wonderful twists, making her paranormal book truly unique.

The setting is perfect and one I really enjoyed, as it's set in the middle of the woods and completely fitting for a pack of wolves. I really enjoyed the interaction with the wolves in both their human form and their wolf form. Let me just say, there is some great chemistry between Caia and her pack's leader/her guardian, Lucien. Their relationship is full of twists and turns, and one I liked watching evolve. Samantha did a nice job at sneaking in a little steamy scene into the story when I least excepted.

I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next for Caia, Lucien and the pack and what kind of war will be ragged in the next book in the series. With a fascinating history and mythology at it's core, wrapped up with some great chemistry, throw in some romance that will leave you wanting more, and topped off with some great action, Lunarmorte is one book I will read again and highly recommend. This is a great read for 14 years and older, and definitely has adult appeal, as the main characters are in their late teens and early twenties.

I am fascinated by the way this book bridges the classic and the contemporary in such a flawless way. The coming together of Greek mythology, of shapeshifters, vampires and even fairies holds this book together - with a sprinkle of romance, mystery and action, Lunarmorte is a fabulous start to a promising new trilogy!

Fresh and original, the book first introduces the reader into the background of the plot through its prologue. It's darn good introduction to the intricate plot, where interwoven with the classic Greek gods and goddesses are the supernatural creatures we love most: vampyres, lykans and fairies. I am amazed at how the author connects all these and still emerge with a clear, concise and detailed plot. I was completely captured, and that was just the prologue!

The characters, particularly Caia and Lucien, are a joy to read and watch grow together. Their attraction is evident and boy does it sizzle! There are twists in the romance which I never guessed coming, and to top it off, a third party whom I seriously adore. Great recipe for a romantic read and one which a romance lover like me cannot resist! Just a quick note though - the book gets a little descriptive at some point, so the book may not be suitable for younger teens. It is not too graphic, but it is still for much older audience. On a side note, I'm sure readers will enjoy Lucien. Brooding, mysterious and possessive, he's one hot catch. He definitely has my vote for Caia!

The pack as a whole are a colourful bunch - the characters both primary and secondary are fully developed and their personalities are well defined. Within the group, there are those whom I had grown to love and hate, annoy and pity. The connection and the bond of the pack to each other is well established and admirable - Caia's adjustment into the lykan community is shown step by step and her integration into it is well played. I loved reading about the practices and tradition of the pack - definitely thumbs up!

Mysteries abound in Lunarmorte. My theories were obviously far from the twists and ultimate truth, but it was hugely enjoyable to guess and search for clues. There is humour present, and best of all, action and tension is also prominent towards the end of the book.

Having said that, Lunarmorte is indeed a well written novel. However, there are a few inconsistencies in the flow of the writing - sometimes certain phrases and words which appear to be a misfit in the general flow of the narrative. This does not occur frequently though, so it may only be an editing overlook. Speaking of which, there seem to be a lot of that happening, because punctuations and typos are everywhere. I am one of those who are very sensitive about it so it did irritate me. This may be a reflection on the editing - so I think if this is corrected, the book would feel more polished. There is also a little drag that occurs in the middle of the book - although Lunarmorte did made up for it in the end.

Yup, you'd want to pick Lunarmorte one up and read it - I myself am already looking forward to the next book!

Found it hard to like Lucien when he was so controlling and violent. Hard to like Caia for not standing up to him enough. I really really liked the premise of the story but couldn't get over how unhealthy the romantic relationship was. So...I try to stay away from books about werewolves because I can't help but find them a little ridiculous, but come on, how could I not pick up this book and give it a try? It's Samantha Young we're talking about here. She is awesome.

I'm torn while reviewing this book. In some ways, I loved it. In some ways, I disliked it.

Samantha Young really is a fabulous writer. Her plots are rich, and her characters are well developed.

I loved the characters in Moon Spell. Caia was relatable, sweet, and didn't fit in the typical YA Romance female stereotype. She made many decisions independently, and was very selfless. She truly aimed to help others beyond herself.

The beginning of Moon Spell was without a doubt incredibly intriguing and mysterious. I wanted more and more of the storyline and the secrets revealed. You can tell that there are so many secrets that will keep you guessing even after only reading a few pages. I felt bad that Caia knew so little, especially when it came to things that pertained to her. So I finished this book last night and I must say I absolutely LOVED it. So you have Caia a wolf that was sent away from her pack for ten years finally she comes back and it's hard for her to adapt she blames herself for alot of things that has happened. The Story
The story is about a girl named Caia, who was originally separated from her pack because of reasons she doesn't understand. The Hunter hunting her has finally been killed, and she is allowed to come back to the pack. A soon as she sees Lucien, the Pack Leader, she is drawn to him. Since she was alone for most of her life, she isn't sure how to act around the wolves, but soon she grows to love most of them and feel happy. However, the secrets start coming out, and everything starts spiraling out of the pack's and Caia's control.

My Thoughts:
Caia is an amazing girl. She was beautifully written. She's quiet, but strong. Kind yet blunt. She was a very believable character and I loved her. Caia is crazy powerful and incredible. Her motivation and determination had me rooting for her the whole time. She was just so caring and relatable that it was hard to be angry with her. What I love about her is that she's just a person. She's not a badass without any feelings. She had them, and they came out at appropriate times.

Lucien was gorgeous, tall, and like all Alpha's, controlling as fuck. By the end of this book I was so mad with him, though! AGH. I mean, I understand why he chose to do that, just…it would have been much easier on him and Caia if she had known the secrets. Guys… But, for an overbearing alpha, he had a sweet side to him that nearly made me clutch the kindle to my heart and squeal. He cares so much for Caia, and I just love him and his crazy personality.

"Caia, you were screaming so loud and hard that I nearly had a heart attack."

I've been in an incredible book funk. Like, there were a few bright stars in my black night of sadness, but none of them have actually gotten a reaction like this out of me. Not since the end of summer.

I read this because I loved On Dublin Street and wanted to read another SY book. I was so excited I found this e-book since I was very eager to read this series... and overall... I was NOT disappointed. It was a fascinating book with lots of supernatural intrigue and budding romance. Caia is a torn (and somewhat indecisive) character throughout much of the story; torn about how to react to her mysteries past, torn about her position within the pack, and torn about her acceptance of a relationship with Lucien. As much as her uncertainty about everything could easily cause the reader to frown upon her as a faltering character, Caia succeeds in perfectly balancing out her wavering thoughts with a sense of innocent vulnerability and stubborn persistence. Plus, her personal connections with Lucian (steamy!) and her new friends within the pack (endearing!) create a well-balance protagonist that is hard not to enjoy. Expect lots of twists and surprises throughout the book in regards to the upcoming supernatural war and Caia's close association with it, but largely, Moon Spell, is about a girl adapting to a new life-style change (be it...a change in an out-of-the-ordinary world full of werewolves, witches, and fairies - Oh My!)

Likes: Really enjoyed the Greek Mythology weaved throughout the pack's origins.

Dislikes: Not really a fan of the Midnight Coven and/or those associated with the magical arts throughout the tale. I was disappointed b/c many of their scenes throughout the story, in regards to "magic," were kind of blah and humdrum.(less)

Definitely a new favorite! Awe, so cute. Haha, did anyone else catch in the epilogue the mention to the kindle? Started to laugh, wasn't much of a subtle placement. Oh hey, I'm going on a trip - Let's see. Bring a backpack, clothes, and kindle. Honestly? I didn't really like the epilogue, cause that means the second book will mostly be about Jae and not Caia.

this book is different . . .good different. the main character caia isn't like all the others, she's not overly insecure, she's not childish, she's not woe is me either. she's calm and quiet but strong. although we don't know much about her, what makes her tick, what she likes, doesn't like. some character building needs to take place in order for the reader to really connect with her but i think its a good start.
i love her relationship with lucien and i look forward to reading more about it in...more

I know, I know. It's a werewolf story. Samantha Young has got me reading a genre of book that I had pretty much given up on. And guess what? I like it.

All of Young's book are affordable through Kindle and they are great. They are the time of books that you start reading and can't really put down. Her worlds are all very believable. This is the first story she wrote and as you read her later books you can see how her talent is growing.

I really enjoyed this story but hated the way Lucien treated Caia. She has it nailed when she explains to him in the hotel room that he treated her like a pawn, just like everyone else in her life. He obviously doesn't trust her or respect her and without those two things you cannot build a lasting loving relationship. This book caught me on surprise over and over again. Sometimes I knew what was going on, other times I was so surprised I was like "WHAT". The characters were great, I love Caia and her personalty. She's shy at first because of being away from the pack for 10 years and wasn't sure how to act with the pack but slowly she grows into her self more and more. She becomes more confident in herself and what role she's to play in the pack. Though I hate how stubborn she is towards Lucien but I can understand it because of how much he lied to her. After what he lied about I would be pissed too. Lucien is a hot sexy werewolf who I would love to have mad at me. Something about werewolves and there aggressiveness always makes me love them more and more even if they are mean. Lucien is the alpha and shows possessiveness towards Caia and gets made when Sebastian hangs around her. I would wish he would suck up his werewolf pride and just confess! I was so pissed at how much they fraught because of something small and mutual. Oh werewolf Jealousy is so hot!

The Romance is slow but you can see the attraction between Caia and Lucien. You can see how Caia is struggling with thinking that Lucien doesn't like her because of how plan she was. She kept telling herself how it was only a crush and nothing else. Then in the middle of the story, they sleep together and it destroyed everything. I'm not sure how the second book will be like hopefully there will be more Romance but I guess we'll see.

The plot was great, it took a whole new turn to a werewolf story because of how it's mixed in with magic and other supernaturals. Having Greek myths into the mix adds a great background to the story on where the supernaturals come from. Besides the little skip ahead on the first page of the book I really do like it. What I'm wondering if there will be any other love interest to make this series interesting in the next book. Since they are already mates in the first book not sure how that's going to work in the second book, guess I have to wait and see. This book is rated 16+ because of how much they discribe when the two main characters slept together. It was so hot but it's not meant for younger teens. (less)

So I was really excited to read this book I heard some rave reviews about it but honestly I feel like this book was good but not good enough to rave about. For me this was the type of book that while I was reading it I didn't like it as much as I did the book as a whole. It did have some nice ideas that were pretty cool but other than the way the author implemented mythology into the book there wasn't too much unique about it. Yeah, another book I finished in one sitting! I don't normally read Paranormal Romance, but I really liked Smokeless Fire (which, tbh, I don't consider PNR) so I picked this one up for another dollar!

Caia left the pack ten years ago after her parents were killed, and she's lived in isolation with no one but Irini. When it's time to return, she finds out the pack is keeping a lot of secrets from her. Though it feels like the first time she's ever belonged, there are also things that are wrong. People seem to blame her for the murders that took place when she was young. She makes enemies with another girl her age named Alexa. When her emotions get the best of her, scary things happen. She also feels an instant connection to the Pack Leader, Lucien. What is the pack hiding from her, though?

To be honest, the beginning was a bit rough. The author throws you right in without any introductions or description. We're just dropped into this conversation. I was confused at first, but I trudged through. Caia arrives in her new home with the pack and slowly starts to adjust to her new life. School, the pack dynamics, living with the Pack Leader and his family, new friends, new enemies.

The characters were pretty interesting and unique. There were a lot of them, and some of the minor ones went straight over my head, but the author did a pretty good job of keeping them separate and distinct. Caia was cool, I liked her. She was calm and collected, but she still had a fierceness to her. The story had a nice pace to it, too. I never thought, 'ugh, let's move on!' I DID want to know what was going on, but that was more the urgency of, 'Wow, I can't read fast enough!'

The romance was nice. Of course I wanted them to jump right into each other's arms, but it was more realistic that things took longer. Towards the end, I feel like they were on a bit of a roller coaster, hating each other, then loving each other, then having screaming matches. But it's understandable with their personalities. I really want to pick up the next one to see what's in their future. At times, the whole "possessive male" annoyed me, but it's realistic, too, considering they are part wolf. I think she did a good job of balancing it, though. Yes, they're protective and slightly chauvinistic, but the women were also strong characters and the men were never dishonorable or anything. Well, I suppose you could argue Lucien was in a few of his lies. . .

I liked the worldbuilding and magic system. Some of it is familiar, of course, but I liked how she mixed Greek myths with the paranormal races of witches, werewolves, vampyres, etc. I'm not 100% clear on the origins of the war, but I think I got it. I'd probably have to read it again, but I don't really have plans of doing that. I'll be reading the next one! XD

Mechanics could use some work, but the storytelling was great and they only distracted me for a moment (or not at all!) before I kept reading. Looking forward to picking up the sequel! I know I'll have to wait until I have some free time because I probably won't be able to put it down. ;)(less)

I liked the idea, and was even entertained by moon spell, but I can't really say I liked it....nor can i understand how on earth this got so many 4 and 5 star reviews!

the pacing felt wrong and so did some of the reactions of the characters, main and secondary alike...the pack would find something out, and I'd think they would do one thing, but then they do something else that IMO wouldn't make sense in the situation...which managed to pull me outta the story more than once...and there are a lot...more I liked the idea, and was even entertained by moon spell, but I can't really say I liked it....nor can i understand how on earth this got so many 4 and 5 star reviews!

One who chose not to educate her charge, and leave her woefully Ignorant at that? That's just one of the many points of contention I had with the rationalizing going on in this book.

Add to that, she's 17/18 and the heroes 9 to 10 years older....but more times then I can count he comes off as much younger...they both do....if it wasn't for the sex scene I'd guess both of them were at the oldest, in their early teen years, just from their behavior. Oh and the mating relationship is never really delved into! If I'm going by how it works in most pnr's the h and H's actions make even less sense...I would have liked for the idea to have been explained more fully, if for no other reason, then to give me a frame of reference for each characters behavior.

Oh also, he's the leader of the pack, but it never really feels like he's an alpha...sure it's mentioned a lot, but the way everyone treats him, he's like a less impressive Lucas from Nalini Singh's psy- changeling series...(and jic, you think one is like the other, they're not, IMO, that's just the best way to describe the hero )

A lot happens, but like i said it felt like the timing of things was off....and the ending! Wth? It was cliffhanger-ish, and I guess I was supposed to want to run off and get the next book, but seeing as how I didn't really like the characters, and from the reviews I've read, I think I'm gonna pass.

So, 3 stars, a decent way to kill some time, but not a must read.(less)

So, despite my two star rating, I actually really enjoyed this book. I liked our heroine Caia and I also really liked Lucien. They had really good chemistry together. I didn't like that she was 17 and he was 24 though. I liked the plot, setting and werewolf mythology. I liked it enough that I'm really tempted to read the rest of the series. I actually think the book was long enough that it really could have been a stand alone novel. I'm not sure it was necessary to make it a trilogy.

wow this book was so so good! Caia was an amazing character! in most werewolf books, the main character usually has many fits and has a bratty attitude, but this character was nothing like that! yes she can be sassy if you make her, but she was relatively sweet and she cared for others. Young did awesome, i found myself understanding and feeling sorry with Caia because in the story what she is happening to her is equally terrifying as exciting. the werewolf background wasnt really original, but...more

Highly recommended - Book One of an urban/paranormal/fantasy trilogy. Great adventure with original imaginative world building. 4.5 stars [only loosing .5 stars because of the start] and definitely worth more than its 99cent bargain price from Amazon.
