This is not a linear history (or at least, far from a comprehensive one), but there are some good stories in here. The best part is the wonderful series of photographs compiled therein, showing vacationers, conventioneers, amusements and rides of various times, Miss America Pageants, etc.

This book does not dwell on any dark side of Atlantic City, and in fact explicitly mentions that the city's racial divide, mob violence, etc are outside of its purview, which is confined to an appreciation of g

Recommends it for: visitors to Atlantic City, those interested in the history of commercialization
This is a certainly entertaining - if not terribly academic - look at Atlantic City's illustrious past. Lots of black & white pictures of everything from Boardwalk scenes to early Miss America winners to the famed Mr. Peanut signs. Atlantic City is a colorful place, and this book is certainly an fun way to learn a bit about the history which, in many ways, coincides with the evolution of early American commercialization. A very light read.
