1000 Low-Carb Recipes rates as a four-star or a five- cookbook, depending on who you are. If you’re a serious low-carb dieter — you’re willing to stalk the health-food stores for Vege-Sal, Carb Countdown milk substitute, black soy beans, raw wheat germ, rice protein powder, and guar or xanthan gums; grind your own flaxseed, raw pumpkin seeds (pepitas) and almonds to make meals and flours, and order Ketatoes (don’t ask), wheat protein isolate, and low-carb Bisquick substitute onlne — well, this i ...more

I have tried a few recipes in this book as Mark and I feel better and lose weight if we trim back the carbs. The other night I made a salad in the book called Autumn Salad. I did not have pears so I substituted red grapes. It also had lettuce, red onion, toasted pecans, and blue cheese with a homemade vinegrette. It was very tastey. I also made the Slice of Mushroom Heaven. Sauteed Mushrooms, onion and garlic and then baked in a cheese mixture so that it came out like crustless quiche(pronounced ...more

Recipe books without photos are never enticing enough for a reader like myself.

For the dedicated Low Carb lifestyle, this is decent. There are a lot of recipes--that's easy enough to see from the title. But would you rather have a massive list of recipes, or a nice cookbook with photographs and design. I personally prefer the latter. (That's why I'd recommend the book "Taking out the Carbage" by DJ Foodie rather than this. Dana does a decent job with her book, but it's bland and after taking a week to flip through the book, I found myself only copying down four recipes, (a ...more

LOVE this book. I've tried several of the recipes already.. And they are just as good as promised. The peanut butter cup pie is to die for, just as good as high carb counterparts. This book is a must have for anyone living low carb.

Disappointing

I was extremely disappointed with the recipe ingredients. Some of these food items are food substitutes, not even real food. Looking for real food, low carb recipes not manufactured food alternatives.

Dana Carpender started her writing career as a self-published author. In 1995, after years of creative low fat cooking featuring whole grains and other “healthy” carbohydrates, and despite five step aerobics classes per week, she found herself a size 20, and gaining! Worse, her blood pressure was rising, and she was left dragging by energy swings. Dropping carbs long before it was fashionable, Car ...more
