يحكي حنا مينه فصول وذكريات عن حياته, الكتاب مش سرد متواصل لسيرته الذاتية,يحكي عن حياته الصعبة جدا وفقره والمهن الكثيرة التي عمل بها حتى صار من حملة الأقلام, حياة مليئة بالعمل والتجارب وفهم الواقع وكما يقول إن إبداع الأديب لا يتوقف على الموهبة وحدها لكن لابد من المعرفة والتجربة والمعاناة,"فلكي تصف الشيء بصدق يجب أن تعرفه بصدق" أيضا الكتاب فيه مقالات عن الأدب والنقد والثقافة وحوارات تتناول رواياته وأبطالها,

كتاب مقالات مجمعه للمؤلف ..
أغرمت بالمقالة التي عنون الكتاب باسمها .. كيف حملت القلم .. يسرد تلك اللحظة التي سمع بها ناظر المدرسة يتحدث عن حملة الأقلام، فتمنى أن يصير واحد منهم.
هناك أيضاً سلسله من المقالات حول علاقة الأدب بمعاناة الكاتب و تنظير في الواقعية. في المضمون ستكتشف ولعا رهيبا من الكاتب بالأدب الروسي بالإضافة للشاعر التركي ناظم حكمت
في حديثه أيضاً، استغربت أن يصف أدب ماركيز بالجاف. ثم هجومه على نزار قباني.
و يختتم الكتاب بسلسلة من المقالات التي تتناول دمشق المدينة و لماذا لم يجعلها حنا مس
