so, i am going to treat this book like an art book rather than a cookbook. although it is way more practical than Cute Yummy Time: 72 Recipes for the Cutest Food You'll Ever Eat, unless you 1) have a fantastic japanese market near you and 2) were one of those kids who liked to build your sandcastles reaaally close to the water. i have the market, but i cannot justify spending hours cutting shapes out of vegetables with cookie cutters and specialized tools only do devour the food in a single bite

This book was pretty entertaining, but many of the sandwiches were things that looked funny rather than seeming tasty. I did see many things that gave me some good ideas for sammies I want to try making, and even made a grilled cheese sandwich last night where one of the pieces of bread was a one-eyed sandwich (/toad in the hole = an egg pan fried in a hole in the bread). It was delicious.

Rating: PG, for some adult beverages.

I love this book, as does my family. In fact, my 9 year old had this in his room for a week. Both of my kids have requests in for the birthday cake sandwich and there are several more they would love to see in their lunch boxes! Most of these sandwiches are easy to make and would be a cute addition to a meal. Will I eat something that advertises itself as a clot-wich? Well, no...but does banana bread, ice cream and hot fudge sound delicious? Definitely! This book is a great way to show what a ...more

The rating for this book is complicated.

It is a 5 STAR for creativity and ingenuity.

It is a 1 STAR on practicality and timing it would take for each recipe.

Some recipes in this book would be fun to make alone or with your children. Others however, would frustate, agravate and even enlighten your inner child.

All in all, if you have an extreme amount of time to prepare a lunch, then this book would be great for you.

I saw Brad's review and wanted to skim this book for myself. Yummy on some of it. Odd on others. I can see how some would be fun to show, but how in the world would you eat them?! There were some that my co-workers and I thought of ways to adapt but still achieve the look. Some that were great for a laugh.

I do look forward to trying some of these. I may have to splurge and buy cheese so they work. (And taste amazing.)

Amazing ideas that are more artwork than lunches you would consider eating. There's a bit of a disconnect between the cover which seems geared at children and some of the recipes which include sandwiches that look like and are made with alcoholic beverages.

Although the author put obvious effort in these sandwiches, most of them look plainly gross, and the edibility of the food is dubious.
