I appreciate Coughlin's thesis -- we need to teach our children to stand up for themselves and others. However, the logic he uses in attempting to prove his point is so convoluted that at times it's offensive. Some examples:

He often gives examples from his experience as a soccer coach (such as on p. 68, when talking about overprotective mothers -- BTW, he never talks about any inappropriate behavior of fathers of soccer players) and uses these examples to extrapolate the idea that the behaviors

I didn't feel much of this book connected with me or applied to my children. I'm far from an overprotective parent, which was a big part of his book, and while I belong to a Christian church (some might argue that, but let's not go there!), I absolutely could not identify with his description of Christian kids with no backbone- children who had been taught to be nice so long they had lost their assertiveness. Coughlin spent a lot of time defining courage. Last few chapters had some great stories, just wish he spent more time telling how to instill the virtue of courage in little ones.
