Of the three books in this series, this one fell in between. The first book was a little flat, and I enjoyed the second book quite a bit...this one fell in between the two.

Series Note:
Third book in Martin's "Raines of Wind Canyon" series about 3 brothers who have bad childhoods and who grow up to make good of their lives. I don't think you have to read them in order, but it may help.

Similar to the first two books in the series, the basic premise has potential but the execution is poor with overly descriptive and redundant scenes.

Lark and Dev have tangible chemistry and there are, thankfully, no fade to black scenes as in book #2. That said, neither character is particularly likable. Dev is afraid to commit and constantly muses over the possibility of being with other women while Lark comes across as flirty and also mentions the possibility of having s

I am a big fan of Kat Martin and have read every single book she has put out but this one didn’t really do it for me. It was a good read and completed the trilogy of the Raines brothers nicely but it didn’t hold my attention like the first two, Against the Wind and Against the Fire.

Lark is a well-known bag designer with her life all planned out, but when her sister passes away asking just one thing from her Lark’s world gets turned upside down. She must fulfill her promise and find her niece tha
This was book 3 in the series and is Dev's story. Lots of action due to a drug cartel, murders, kidnapping, rescues, romance and love. Takes place in AZ, Los Angeles, Mexico and Wyoming. Lark and Chrissy get under Dev's skin no matter how he tries to fight it. Reunited with the other Raines brothers and their families plus meet up with Dev's team to help right wrongs and get Chrissy back. Nice closure and a happily ever after. The epilogue tied up all the loose ends but left the door open for mo ...more

I'd give the Raines brothers trilogy a solid 3.5 stars.
Devlin Raines is hired to find a child who had been put up for adoption by Lark Delaney's sister. Lark hires him after her sister dies. Soon they find out the child was sold. When they finally locate the family, they witness a drug cartel hit, which wipes out the family but leaves Chrissy alive. Dev and Lark fall heavily for each other, but both feel they cannot make it work since Dev isn't the marrying kind and she works in LA. Thrown back together, they soon realize they can't live without eac ...more

My thoughts and feelings while reading:

0.0% Excited for this one - another ex-military hero! <3 Dev's interested me in the other books - I want to know more about him! Hope he doesn't resist Lark too much in this book :) Excited to start this one! :)

2.0% The favor of working with a gorgeous brunette—even if she was a hundred-eighty degrees from his usual type—didn’t seem like too much to ask.
Yh well your usual type hasnt worked out so well has it Dev! And we both know you're dissatisfied with
It was just ok.

I had to load up my Kindle for a flight. And this was an ok way to pass the time.

Lark Delaney needs the P.I. help of Devlin Raines to fulfill her promise to her dying sister. Her sister gave up a baby for adoption in her teens, and she asked Lark to make sure her daughter is happy and with a good loving family.

Devlin, though retired from field work, takes on the case, as Lark is referred to him by an Army Ranger buddy who saved Devlin's life. They discover things are not as they
I enjoyed this book very much.

This book is the third in a series and I liked it as much or maybe more than the first two. I liked the fact that it had more action and danger. A great romantic suspense story that has many twists and turns.

In this story you meet Devlin the youngest of the Raine brothers and from his description in the first two books the one that was in the most trouble in his younger years. He has become quite the womanizer and just wants to enjoy life without entanglements. La

Against the Law is book three in the Raines of Wind Canyon trilogy and is the story of youngest brother Devlin Raines, a semi-retired private investigator in Phoenix and LA-based handbag designer Lark Delaney.

Against the Law is the third book in the Raines of Wind Canyon series by Kat Martin. I have to say with each book this series gets better and better.

This book centers around the youngest Raines brother Devlin, and I have to say he may be the sexiest of the brothers. His heart was broken many moons ago by his former fiancé, and all that did was prove to him that the lessons of his childhood were correct. Love is a fairytale, and it’s better to be

This was one of these books that had more twists than a Venetian Canal. This book was more about how many different twists they could throw in a romantic suspense novel and still make it readable because they were all in there. It starts with a suspicious adoption and a dying wish, and develops into a murder for hire, drug cartel, kidnapping, shoot-em-up mystery with more action than most Van Damme movies. The prroblem is not the action that Ms. Martin packs into the books, Ms Martin clearly kno ...more

I enjoyed reading Kat Martin’s Bride Trilogy and romantic suspense is one of my most favorite genre’s (Ok, I know, they all are!), so I thought I would give AGAINST THE LAW a try. After reading the very first paragraph, I knew it was going to be a struggle for me to read this book. Without further ado:

He had everything he ever wanted. Plenty of money. A successful business. A sprawling, custom-built home in the Sonoran Desert north of Scottsdale filled wit
Kat Martin saves the best for last in the third book of her Raines of Wind Canyon series. Martin jams a mighty punch in this action-packed, drama-filled book about the third Raines brother.

Devlin Raines is the playboy of the family. He lives the fast life and answers to no one and he likes it that way. A former military man turned to private investigator, Dev still gets his adrenaline rush from his private cases. Now he is about to get a whole other type of rush from sexy handbag designer, Lark
Against the Law is the story of the youngest Raines brother, Devlin. A few years before the series started, Devlin, a former Army Ranger turned private detective, had thought he had found the woman of his dreams--until she practically left him at the altar. Since then his life has been devoted to pleasure, avoiding any and all entanglements with the opposite sex that might lead to anything permanent...until Lark Delaney hires him to help her find her dead sister's child, given up for adoption fo ...more
Best of the trilogy. 3rd brother Devlin Raines, former ranger turned private investigator, is hired by Lark Delaney to find her niece. Her sister, Heather's dying wish was that Lark find her daughter who was given up for adoption and make sure the child is doing well. Finding the child proves difficult as the adoption agency wasn't legal. Meanwhile neither Devlin nor Lark can deny the attraction they have and are trying to keep the relationship business. Against the Law is the 3rd book in Kat Martin's Raines of Wind Canyon series. This story is Dev's, the youngest Raine.

Dev is a "mostly retired" private investigator who is sent a client by an old Ranger buddy. Although he rarely takes cases any more, Dev owes his buddy and agrees to take Lark's case. Lark needs to find the daughter her recently deceased sister gave up for adoption 4 years ago. What should have been a simple case turns into something much more dangerous, as illegal adoptions and
This is the third book in the Raines trilogy. It's better than the last one, but I'm getting a little sick of the anti-commitment characters. Kat Martin must have wanted that to be a theme in this series. Dev is a good hero, but his playboy rep and "been burned once, not going there ever again" attitude is getting old. I like characters who LIKE to fall in love!
Lark was easy to like and seemed to really "fit" with Dev, and the kidnapping/drug cartel storyline was believable (although I find it

You just can't keep secrets buried no matter how hard you try. Sarah Allen, the beautiful girl who humiliated Jackson Raines in high school, is back in town. And despite everything, Jackson's finding himself reluctant to get rid of her.

Dev Raines is approached by a client who asks him to help her locate her sister's 4 year old daughter who was given up for adoption at birth. She just wants to be sure that the child was adopted by a couple who is providing a happy home for the child. The search sets off an entire chain of events dealing with drug lords and other perils. Good story.
Devlin Thought he was retired from Rains Investigations, until a beautiful woman walks through his door. Lark is sexy, successful, and hell-bent on ensuring that her deceased sister's four year old daughter was placed in a good home when she was given up for adoption. This seemingly straightforward case turns into a nightmare. Dev discovers a shady adoption ring, and when they locate the child's parents, they are murdered right in front of them and the child is abducted. In their quest to retrie ...more
I started this book and it took me a few days to read it, but I did enjoy it. The middle part got kind of slow.. I actually thought it easily could have ended then. The next two books are about the other "no-account Raines boys", Gabe and Dev. Incidently, I think I liked Dev's book best of all. So after that, "Against the Wind" comes in and follows Trace Rawlings, Dev's friend from the Rangers. I haven't checked, but I'm sure the next books also follow more of Dev's Ranger buddies.

This was the last book of the Raines of Wind Canyon series. The first book I couldn't get into at all, the second was better, but not by much. For the third book, she saved the best for last. Set in Phoenix, Los Angeles, and Mexico, this story was pretty adventurous from the start. Lark Delaney is trying to fulfill a deathbed promise to her sister to find the baby her sister had given up for adoption 4 years prior. She is referred to Devlin Raines, an ex-military man who runs a successful securi ...more
Well, these Raines boys sure know how to find their gals in the thick of trouble! When they found Chrissy, I was sure Lark and Devlin would settle down nicely and quietly. That was just the lull before the storm. The tragedy that allowed Lark to reclaim Chrissy back into the family of her birth was followed up by a sadistic and very twisted Mexican Drug Cartel boss kidnapping the 4 yr old girl. This sent everyone up into arms and out into the desert of Mexico to reclaim the innocent and very res ...more
I can't believe how similar this book was to "Against the Edge." Literally, almost the exact same theme, just different characters. But Kat Martin's books are easy to read.
