No serial killer. No covert op. No undercover assignments. Not my usual fare at all yet I liked this book. I've read one Kathryn Shay before, I think. It wasn't all that memorable and was about firefighters.
Someone To Believe In has a politician hero and a do-gooder heroine who helps kids leave gangs. I'm rather partial to politician heroes (this IS romantic fantasy, after all) and I liked Clay. While Bailey's reluctance to admit that it's more than just sex between them is understandable, I did...more

Eleven years before, dedicated anti-gang rescue worker was sent to prison for 1 year for hiding an accused gang member she was helping, with conservative Hero as her case's district attorney. Ever since then, she & Hero are known for their political opposition to each other. Now they finally meet face-to-face & have to work together in a political committee, often clashing with each other's views. Things become more complicated as they develop a romantic r/s that soon burgeons into a sec...more
My friend Heather pushed this book onto me. I thought it was going to be great like all of the other books she forces on me, but I was wrong. So very wrong. I’m not going to be gentle in my review and I’m not going to be politically biased, because that just isn’t me. I just want to say that if it hadn’t been for the characters or the circumstances, it would have been a great book. The interactions between Clay and Bailey were nice when they were together without any of the other crap in the way...more
There are some authors that I look for each time I scan the Top 100 Free books. Kathryn Shay is one of them. This is her third title that I have read and I enjoyed each of them. Someone To Believe In is a great example of why I love her writing style. The raw emotions that she brings as well as the sensitive subjects are heartfelt. In this book, Clay and Bailey have every reason to dislike each other and no reason to fall in love. Of course, that is exactly what happens and it seems that they ar...more
I picked this book up free on Kindle - and it was the first time I had read any of the Kathryn Shay's work. I loved it enough that I went and not only downloaded the other two in this series - but downloaded quite a few more books written by her.
The writing was excellent. Just enough choreography that it took me to the characters but didn't over do what they were doing and allowed me to use some of my own imagination in the scene. The characters are very well rounded and I loved them, even the s...more

This book adds an interesting spin on politics. Who is right on reform topics? Who really wins when politicians and private social nets butt heads? All in all, Kathryn Shay approaches this from both sides of the argurment excellently. She also has the hero and heroine (on opposite sides, of course!) with great points for each of their arguments.
Horrible tragic mistakes are made (I won't spoil) and both the characters have A LOT of growth throughout this entire book. I was glued to my Kindle the...more

This was much better than the last Kathryn Shay book I read. It was a tad drawn out, with the back-and-forth and hiding their relationship, but the story was interesting and well-written. The characters were interesting, and I really liked the anti-gang side story. The biggest drawback for me was the end. I really disliked Bailey falling apart, and I disliked her moving in with Clay despite being so upset with him. It just didn't fit the character she had been up to that point, IMO. This is, how...more
Got this as a freebie on my kindle (Don't I always?)
Think I have found myself a new favourite Author! The characters were believeable and the story line was well thought out and kept me totally hooked. Love the realtionships between the main characters Bailey and Clay and also between all the other extended family members.
Well worth the read and I will be buying the second and third in this series. Am already reading another of Kathryn Shay's books...think I might be hooked!

Very surprising book. The author put it best "a story about two diverse people who, despite the odds, fall in love." Though the main characters are infuriating at times the impact being too stubborn in a relationship comes through in the story. The author writes in such a way that you can truly experience the emotions of the characters at times. I started the book just because it was recommended and after I made it thought the first three chapters I had trouble putting it down until I finished....more
i was glad i found a really good romance book to read and since it was free im even more glad.I liked both main characters, they were both really good written with their own flaws and strong points. I think i really want to read the rest of series since Aidan was one of the sympatical characters for me. Really good book and i suggest it to any romance readers:)
A emotionally charged book of a woman's struggle in remaining true to herself - and her "life's purpose" while becoming involved with a man who has completely different ideas. Wonderful information into the the intertwining of youth gangs & the difficulty of walking the line between helping & enabling them. And, the danger!
This is book 1 of a series of 3 (so far)

This book had a good message and a sweet, if slightly cheesy, love story. I enjoyed the book although it got a bit wordy and seemed to drag on and on and on and on and on.
I didn't really connect with or like the heroine that much, who seemed very selfish and self-centered for most of the book.
I wasn't impressed by Kathryn Shay and don't think I'll be reading another book of hers again.

For a romance, no doubt 5 stars. The characters are more than the usual basic alpha male and wonderful, beautiful but clueless girl, it's nice to see older main characters. The story is good, despite a few little details that don't add up - if her identity is such a secret how come almost every official or reporter know who she is? in any case, overall the story is appealing, brushes up interesting and important issues, and it's well written.
Really liked it! Good story liked the family ties.

Kathryn Shay is a lifelong writer. At fifteen, she penned her first 'romance,' a short story about a female newspaper reporter in New York City and her fight to make a name for herself in a world of male journalists - and with one hardheaded editor in particular. Looking back, Kathryn says she should have known then that writing was in her future. But as so often happens, fate sent her detouring d...more
