What a great book for teaching young children! Before you even begin reading, there's teaching opportunities! First, Aesop's stories aren't Aesop's. Nor are they originally Greek. They're mostly old Indian stories that came from West Asia before that. Great chance to talk about stealing (taking credit for other's works) and cultural appropriation (why does Aesop still get credit?). This is a twist to the original Tortoise and the Hare when they both are still racing but instead to the finish line, they are racing to the moon. The spaceships that they get are just as fast and as slow as they are in real life. What are the outcomes?
