In his day, practicing English pastor Andrew Fuller (1754-1815) was also the most prominent Baptist theologian on either side of the Atlantic Ocean. He remained influential via his thoughtful writings up until the American Civil War. Since then, however, the emphasis on theological and doctrinal depth in Baptist preaching (and preaching generally) has been in decline.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this excellent book! I was inspired by Fuller's commitment to theological clarity, his courage to stand up for his convictions, and his incredibly strong work ethic.

Fuller, a Particular Baptist Minister, argued passionately for the public proclamation of the Gospel to all (Gospel Worthy of All Acceptance) during a time in which hyper-Calvinsm held sway. He demonstrated in both his published works and his personal life that Calvinism and warm-hearted evangelism are n

Paul Brewster has done the church a service in reintroducing the 18th-century English Baptist Andrew Fuller to a new generation. Fuller, a towering figure in his day, has largely been forgotten in our own. Another well-known Baptist of a generation after, Charles H. Spurgeon, said of Fuller that he was the greatest Baptist of his century. This biography, then, seeks to amend that biographical eclipse and present Fuller not only as an interesting figure worth remembering but a faithful and ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this brief work on Andrew Fuller. It is not a biography per se, but includes a brief (about 25 pages) biography in the introduction. The chapters are devoted to his theological method, his doctrine of salvation, and how his doctrine informed his practice. The concluding chapter has a rousing application of Fuller's life to the current concern over Calvinism in the SBC. Though these subjects may sound boring to some, I found the book enjoyable and fascinating (in fact, it was ...more

REALLY good introduction to Fuller's ministry. Easy to read for those who are just getting into Fuller's work, yet still very helpful. Brewster does a good job of synthesizing some of Fuller's thoughts as well as the contemporary discussion surrounding him. This would be the first place I would send someone who is looking to know more about him.

Pastor-Theologian-Missions Mobilizer

Here is a great book on Andrew Fuller. Fuller was the man who "held the ropes" for William Carey and the other Baptist missionaries whom God used to launch the Great Century of Christian Missions. The focus of the book is on his role as pastor and theologian, and Fuller is truly a model to follow.

This was a good short read on Andrew Fuller's life and soteriology as a model for pastors. I found it to be very enjoyable and would recommend it to everyone.

Not exactly a traditional biography, more of a topical study of his life. If you are not familiar with Fuller, this would be a good place to start.
