I enjoyed this one. It's got a lot going on in it, which kind of works against it, but I like the fresh voice and the story enough that I didn't mind. The only thing I just did not like was the heroine's body betrayed her at every chance it got. I just can't stand when a heroine is (rightly) pissed at the hero and his very nearness turns her into a pot of simmering hormones. I take that back, once or twice in a book, it's fine, but it was all the dang time in this one!

That being said, I really REALLY had a hard time putting the book down. I liked the characters, and I liked the hero having to sort of regain his humanity and relearn emotions. The one thing I really like that was stressed in this book, is that the vampires don’t think of humans as anything more than a means to an end. A food source. Now I don’t mean in the cruel way, just in the way that humans are there, but the vampires keep to themselves. So for Grayson to have these annoying twinges in the vicinity of his heart was a great touch.

The book opens with Meg visiting London on a charity mission with her father, the vicar of their little town. She witnesses an atrocity, a beautiful woman asks for her help, and gains the promise to watch out for her daughter Collette. And then the woman falls over in a pool of blood while shadows with glowing eyes take her away.

A couple years later, Meg is swimming with her youngest sister Hanna out at the pond, which is where the new owner of the neighboring property finds her. . .and he finds a dead body.

Grayson is looking for his niece Collette, and all of his leads have led him to Meg’s family. Could Hanna be his long-lost niece? If she is, she’s going to go through a massive change in a few months. But Grayson’s search for Collette is constantly hindered by Meg, and since all of his thoughts are consumed with Meg, he realizes that he’s not being very observant. Two vampires are in the area, there have been several murders, and Meg is a suspect.

I loved the story, I think the suspense plot was a teeny bit weak, but I was definitely surprised by the culprit. He was a nasty sort, too. But Meg and Grayson do get their HEA, and I would recommend this book to anyone who wants a quick and interesting Historical Paranormal Romance.

Hannah's mother was murdered in front of her when she was seven. Meg found her with the child as she lay on the street dying. Meg promised the dying woman that she would protect her daughter. Then her father, a Vicar dragged her and the child into the church while beasts that looked human with yellow glowing eyes dragged off the body. Meg and her father did the only thing they knew to do. They took the child and their family and fled to america to hide. Two years later and Hannah has started acting peculiar. People are dying and disappearing and all clues somehow lead back to Meg. She does not have time for a murder investigation. She must take care of her father,sisters and also hide and keep Hannah safe from the monster that killed her mother and is most more than likely searching for Hannah. He may never give up. She has so much responsibility and no one to rely on. Grayson, The dark and mysteriously troubling new neighbor would allow her to rely on him. But she knows in her gut he's not being honest and has his own agenda. Meg notices that Grayson has the same piercing green eyes as Hannah and her mother, that at times she could swear, seem to glow. She suspects that Hannah's mother was a vampire and she is pretty sure Grayson as well. So what does that make Hannah?!

I was sucked in...I do have to say that the first scene between Meg and Grayson had be going oh not one of "those cheesy" romance stories..But the intrigue, the deception, the "fall" (falling in love I mean) oh it was epic. Had me up till 2:30 in the morning knowing I had to go to work..and then sneeking it in during the day till I was done.

Mr. Lori has done it again with another phenomenal historical paranormal read. Ms. Lori gave me everything I needed for a hot and steamy, mysterious and yet compelling story that took me in from the first page all the way to the last. Never was there a dull moment. This is a very riveting read that kept me engrossed all the way through.

This story has a little of everything. There is deceit, disgrace, manipulation, lies, betrayal, heart-ache and pain but there is also honor, devotion, loyalty, courage, and above all love. Ms. Lori put her talent to the test yet again and pulled every emotion from me that I thought possible. This truly is a great love story.

Meg is a daughter, sister, and friend. She is devoted to her family and friends. No matter the cost, she will protect them with her own life if need be. Her loyalty and love for them struck me the most. Meg is the friend you pray you have, the sister you wish was your own. She is an amazing woman. Even in the face of danger, she refuses to cower. Her spirit is another thing I admired as well. She believes in fighting for what she believes is the truth. But what happens when the secrets she keeps cost her her life... Or the life of her family? Does she fight or surrender? What happens when her heart falls for the dangerous man she seeks to run from?

Grayson is a drop dead gorgeous man.... A man with a past and secrets of his own that would scare most, ah hell probably everyone, away. But what helps is that he oozes charm, so that most around him don't notice the beast that lurk within. Living as long as Grayson has, he has grown cold to the idea of happiness, family and most of all - love. Those things were just not meant for him, just like normal life was not meant for him. Until he met the woman who showed up in his life and took his heart and soul (if he had one) by utter storm. But the key to some of his past lay with the woman he is trying to avoid the most. What happens when the person you need the most is the only person that is not afraid of you? Grayson has to face his own demons... And with Meg's help.... Well, let's just say that this is going to be one hell'va ride!

This story is an honor-bound story. Ms. Lori created a world so intriguing that you have to read to see what will happen. Meg and Grayson will capture your heart and not let it go... Their banter, their chemistry, their devotion to preserving what is theirs is just so.... real. The emotions run high for these characters. I can't say to much more because I want you to read the story for yourself... but you must read it!

AUTHOR: This is my 1st time reading a book by author Lori Brighton. I found her writing style to be slow and repetitive during various scenes and situations within first half of the book. I must admit that I did not expect much. However, once Lori kicks into action, you cannot put the book down. All I can say is, “stay with it and keep reading”. She writes Historical Romance, Contemporary Paranormal Romance and Young Adult books.

I liked the concept, but this book tried to be too much. Paranormal romance, historical romance, suspense romance, mystery romance. It was very repetitive (if I had to read that her hand combed through the hair near his neck, or that he rubbed the small of her wrist, or the word "Merde" which was said or thought on like every other page, I was going to throw my kindle!) and could have easily been shortened for a much tighter story. When I picked up A Night Of Secrets to read I wasn’t sure what to make of it. A historical paranormal romance isn’t something I had read much of. In fact I don’t read a ton of historical to begin with. I just never have been able to get into most of the historical romances I have picked up in the past.

Rig...more When I picked up A Night Of Secrets to read I wasn’t sure what to make of it. A historical paranormal romance isn’t something I had read much of. In fact I don’t read a ton of historical to begin with. I just never have been able to get into most of the historical romances I have picked up in the past.

This book started out well with several chapters that kept me totally engaged. I enjoyed the suspenseful beginning and all the mystery surrounding the dead woman and the child that Meg rescues. Right away though I wasn’t ever entirely sure why the whole town shunned Meg and her family. There were several obscure references but I never fully understood the reasoning.

When Grayson makes his entrance as the new owner of some adjacent property to Meg I really wanted to like him. He’s looking for his dead sister’s child. The same child that Meg rescued several years prior. This child is about to go through a transformation becoming a vampire and finding her is important. Meg has since renamed the girl though so Grayson makes it his mission to uncover the truth. Being a vampire is genetic and humans can’t be turned.

On top of Grayson’s issue with the child, human bodies start piling up around Meg and everyone suspects her of murder, or at the very least being an accomplice. This was the point in the book that I couldn’t focus. I spent until about the middle of the book constantly cursing Grayson. His back and forth on his feelings for Meg got somewhat grating. One minute he’d be wanting to gather her in his arms and the next he was pushing her away. This went on for chapters. Grayson’s thirst for Meg’s blood only intensifies. Plus there was a lot of story telling that I felt could be cut down…or out.

After that half way point the book picked back up again and I was able to get back into it for the most part. Being a historical I generally don’t mind female characters that are more feeble. Meg, was definitely a more feeble character. She was never as outspoken as I wanted her to be. When danger came knocking I wanted her to fight back, but she really never did. I liked her overall but I don’t think I ever fully connected with her as Lori intended.

The last 1/4 of the book was the best. I enjoyed when all the pieces came together and the lies and suspicions are revealed. Grayson never fully thought he was capable of loving someone until meeting Meg and so his last ditch effort to try to make her understand was heart warming.

While A Night Of Secrets didn’t totally work for me, I think those who read historical romance on a regular basis will get more out of it. I am a big supporter of Lori’s work! Her writing style is easy to follow and she has well thought out characters as well as visually appealing settings.(less)

After reading Lori Brighton's Wild Series, I was nervous and anxious to read more of her work. I have read other authors with one great series and the next series sucks. THIS IS NOT THE CASE! Lori Brighton brings you a new and hot series with A Night of Secrets! Meg is a fun and spunky leading lady who was easy to root for and even easier to identify with. So many good things with this book! I adored Grayson although sometimes he's very infuriating especially since I'm a person looking into his life from a third person point of view. The book had an interesting plot but the main character was annoying.

She kept contradicting herself and it got to the point of enough-was-enough. She was trying to save her family but was useless and helpless. She then gets accused for murder and does nothing about it. She gets the solution to everything by marrying the leading man (who she lost her Virginity to) and then she regrets it.

Utterly fantastic. My two favourite genres cleverly and expertly brought together! The story was innocent, otherworldly, packed with heat ...everything. Not read something so good in a while just breathtaking. The writting style was classic an flawless, with a little edge here and there and lots of dramaticale flare while maintaining a great love story at its heart. Brilliant!

Really enjoyed this book. It was a little mix of everything - historical, paranormal, romance, intrigue... I enjoyed the build up of the relationship between Meg and Grayson... Having said that, there was a little too much, "he likes me, no, he doesn't" kind of thing going on... The waive ring back and forth got a little tiring... But all in all, an enjoyable read...

Really great read! Love the characters and how Gray and Meg fall in love, the fact that he is a tortured vampire with his past and how she helps him "feel" again. Good plot and story also great who done it mystery! I give it five stars I would love to see what happens to Grayson and Meg and Hanna! Brighton had me hooked on the first page, and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough! Brighton has the power of description down, bringing you into her world effortlessly, and making you fall in love with the characters. I will be on the look out for more amazing books from Lori Brighton~

Was a good quick read.

Kind of surprised about a vampire with a heartbeat? Had not read about that before

Having really enjoyed Ms. Brighton's "Wild Heart", I snatched this one up when I saw it. Not only did the author's name catch my eye, but so did the beautiful cover. And the fact that it was a historical paranormal romance was just icing on the cake. I thought this was a great story, and I'm eagerly awaiting another one in this series. I fell in love with Grayson along with Meg. I thought the idea that Grayson was a soldier in a war to hide that he was a vampire was a unique one. I very quickly...more

This was quite a delightful and steamy read. Grayson is a hunky vampire who falls for a human girl named Meg. Meg is accused of murder, kidnapping and stealing Grayson's heart.

These two go through some really rough patches and some really steamy intimate scenes. Well written and descriptive story. I have read some of Lori Brighton's other work and really enjoyed Mind Readers. I really enjoy her vivid scenes.
