Claymore, Vol. 18 / 978-1421539355

I'm a very devoted fan of both the Claymore anime and the manga. I love the crisp black-and-white artwork, and while I realize it's not for everyone I personally think it's a perfect style for graphic novels. I find the action easy to follow, and the faces and body language to be surprisingly emotive. The story is complex and compelling, and I'm all in until the series finally finishes. Alas, Riful and Daff. You will go down as my favorite ship in this franchise.

The previous volume was OK with moving the plot along. In volume 18, however, most of it appears to be filler until the very end. The plot increasingly seems to get lost in favor of battles with creepier and creepier monsters. The main cast keeps getting bigger and bigger and it's difficult to keep track of who's who. I could also do with less blatant explanations of what's going on, but this is not as bad in Claymore as it is in other manga.

Dark Speculations are afoot in this volume of Claymore when a mammoth youki(demon) awakens. Dae' describes her as the perfect weapon.
Volume starts at chapter 96.
Raki makes an entrance early on. Clair isn't featured until about midway into the vol.
Gorgeously terrifying art style.
