To be honest, I didn't expect to like this one as much as I did. It seems to be quite a guy book. In it, Boone Drake is a officer of the Chicago Police. He has a beautiful wife and loving son. His dreams are coming true, but then disaster hits. He struggles with a reason for living. After losing so much, only his career matters until that is threatened as well. Through desperate prayers and the ministry of the local pastor, Boone seeks solace in his faith--faith that had lacked passion in the pa...more

After a house fire severely alters his future, taking his young family from him in an instant, Chicago police officer Boone Drake struggles to come to terms with his loss and how God could allow such a thing to happen. Slowly, with the help of his pastor and the support of his partner, Boone begins to heal and build a stronger relationship with God than he had ever had.

I enjoyed the The Brotherhood by Jerry B. Jenkins immensely. It has a mix of drama, action, and a bit of romance. I felt, howeve...more

The Brotherhood is a realistic fiction story. It could happen to any family. It is also a story about healing and letting go. Boone did not give up his life, his career. He was struggling to let go what had happen to his family, and find ways to reconnect back with the God. He was sad but he did not let the sadness overtake him. The book reveals many Boone’s feelings and thoughts. It made me vie...more

The Brotherhood wasn’t a very intense read due to the lapses in it. There were parts in the book where the action wasn’t as much as I had hope it would be. The beginning and end of the book was predictable. But what made the book different and interesting to read was the tragedy. It was twist that was both unique and unexpected. One would have expected it to be something that would merely rock the main character’s world but no, it is a twist that literally tears apart and removes everything from...more

The Brotherhood, Precinct 11 by Jerry B. Jenkins, Tyndale House Publishers, Inc., 2011, 384 Pages, ISBN-13: 978-1414309224, $14.99

Boone Drake's passionate good-bye kiss, returned with equal fervor by his wife Nikki, carried the promise of an exciting evening the young rookie would look forward to. He turned from Nikki and chuckled at his son Josh, toddler arms waving frantically from the high chair, spoon in hand, demanding equal attention. Boone felt happier than he'd ever been, amazed that his...more

Great novel with very honest emotions and feelings shown in the main character after the tragic loss of his wife and young son. Spiritual values are woven throughout the novel in a way that doesn't come across as trite or overzealous---but very meaningfully expressed ---especially to anyone else who may be struggling with battles in his or her spiritual life. Jenkins has also done a good job in depicting issues in the life of a law enforcement officer. This is a multi-dimensional book with suspe...more

THE BROTHERHOOD by Jerry B. Jenkins, sounded like a great book. It is labeled as a police thriller and Jenkins continually tops the best seller lists, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

The Verdict: The novel in no way passes the test as police thriller or procedural. However, it is a solid and entertaining story about Boone Drake, a cop who faces tragedy, and with God's help, rebounds to overcome it.

Boone Drake is an idealistic cop with a great family. When tragedy strikes, he doesn't know how he...more

Good police story of changed lives ...

Jerry Jenkins' The Brotherhood is the first book of what looks to be a series focusing on the work of a group of men and women employed by the Chicago Police Department. Boone Drake worked in the 11th Precinct – Chicago's most dangerous. But he was in line or a big promotion – if life did not get in the way.

The loss of most of what he lived for and dreamed of was almost too much for Boone – it would take him to the edge. But as he discovers the faith, that h...more

The Brotherhood by Jerry B. Jenkins is the story of Chicago cop, Boone Drake. He's got everything in life that he's ever wanted: a rising career with the Chicago Police Department, a beautiful wife and son that he loves very much and his home. Everything is going exactly he wants...until something goes horribly wrong.

Jenkins has written a very moving story and appeals to a demographic that I think Christian authors have ignored....men. It didn't hit me until I completed "The Brotherhood" and wan...more

I started off really enjoying this audiobook, but unfortunately that didn’t last long. I found the main character very irritating in the end, and in some ways to good to be true. An although it is a good story it could have been a lot better. The author repeated himself an awful lot, reminding the listener what had gone on before in previous chapters, which wasn’t necessary at all.
The narrator was good and was easy to understand. He did different voices for all the characters, although at times...more

The novel revolves around the lives of Boone Drake a young officer and wife Nikki with their son Josh and Jack Keller senior officer. Both officers in the Chicago beat partners on 2nd watch. Tragedy struck the life of Boone leaving him with his thoughts and struggles. Upon his return to the police force he aquired arother partner, Garrett Fox and life seemed to become better for Boone as he focused his attention on his job and not on his personal life. But when he got the assignment of a lifetim...more

I was surprisingly disappointed in this book as I have read several other books by Mr. Jenkins that I enjoyed. The core of this book has real potential, but the fact that main character, Boone Drake, spends nearly the entire book wallowing in his grief was painfully tedious. There were several areas that were extremely repetitive, something I am aware of in my own writing, but an editor should have seen these issues and corrected them. When Boone takes on a new role with the Chicago PD working t...more

I love Jerry Jenkins writing and this book is no exception. He uses just the right amount of action and emotion so you never get bored. This book deals with the struggles we all go through to believe God in the times when He seems unbelievable. Every christian struggles with this. It takes time to get past some of the things life does to us and the situation in this book is a one of those times. Losing loved ones is hard even for Boone Drake the police officer in this book. No matter how trained...more

From the moment this story starts, it is filled with emotion and grabs your attention without any plans of letting go. Boone Drake is faced with an unimaginable tragedy. It threatens to destroy him and a career title that he has worked so hard for. When daily he is reminded of his loss, where will he turn? Family? Friends? His faith? God? Where do we often turn when life just doesn't go as we planned?

This story raises some tough points and answers some great questions as to just why we run from...more

Rating: Enjoyed but slightly disappointed.

Boone Drake has spent most of his life working toward the goal of the Organized Crime Division for the Chicago Police Department. He is a young police officer who is working hard and plays it by the books. He is happy with his beautiful wife and adorable. Everything seems to be going according to plan until one day when Drake lose...more

It is a good book and at the beginning I cried with all this man went through and I could relate to how we as Christians look at things and feel God isn't taking very good care of us. When it got to the end of the book, I felt like the author left us hanging, we don't know who the inside man was that got the man Boone shot or what happened with the gangster who they got out of the gangs that they tried to kill. I just felt it was not ended very well. Up to the end I enjoyed reading the book and...more

I love books about police/suspenseful genres and The Brotherhood is just that and so much more. This book takes place in Chicago and mostly within the Chicago Police Department. I really liked the main character Boone Drake. The Brotherhood tells about his life growing up and how his life right now is perfect with family, home and job he loves dearly, but things never stay the same. I was really drawn in to the fun, joy, heartbreak, sadness, loss, forgiveness and love. Boone goes on a rollercoas...more

An unexpected accident changes Boone Drake's life in an instant. Faced with death, guilt, and bitterness, Boone disdains the house he lived in and the God he claimed to serve. Unable to understand such tragedy, he searches for meaning in his job, his routine, and the bottom of a bottle. I had a chance to read and review "The Brotherhood" by Jerry B. Jenkins courtesy of Tyndale. It's about a young cop, Boone Drake, who seems to have it all until faced with unexpected tragedies. Drake is forced to struggle with not only his hardships, but his faith also.

This is defiantly not the usual crime/shoot 'em up book. It's an emotional read that will have you in sad and happy tears. Through all of the emotion in the book, I learned how to deal with the awkwardness of prayer. I somehow rel...more

Jerry B. Jenkins in his new book “The Brotherhood” Book One in the Precinct 11 series published by Tyndale House Publishers takes us to Chicago late 2011.

Jerry Jenkins (co-author of the Left Behind Series) has a potential blockbuster with this Precinct 11 series. I'm reading the third in the trilogy now. What suspense he weaves in this series! Not only is the story line exceptional, but his writing is superb! They say an author should write what he knows - Jerry is the son of a police chief and the brother of two cops. This guy knows law enforcement, and he knows Chicago! I can't see anyone being disappointed with any of these three novels.

I'm giving this book 4stars only because it wasn't marketed for what it truly was in my opinion. This was a great book about pain, loss, struggle and ultimately FAITH. The characters were everyday people going through daily life, facing some major uphill struggles and somehow finding the fortitude to call on their faith to survive. I completely enjoyed it and I would definitely pick up another offering by this author in the future.

This was a book I really enjoyed. It was definitely a book that I felt that was pertinent for me to read personally. The character was going through the same crossroads I was going through, so it really was a good read when you have doubts about your faith, and if God is really there. It also took place in Chicago which was really cool. I'm looking forward to reading the second in the series.

**SPOILERS AHEAD**

I had no idea this was a Christian type of a novel when I began to read it. Having said that, I thought it would be heart-warming to read but it just got very dull right after Boone loses his family. It didn't hold my interest. I am rating it a 2 because up until his wife and child are killed it was good. I would have enjoyed it more if there would have been more action type police cases in the book.
David Santos
A christian book? Sure. The book started off really well, but honestly, with the family issues and faith issues, I felt that the "detective" work was a bit much. I don't mean in detail, I mean in length. it took away from Boone's personal battles. The detective work could have been condensed.

Still a good book. Don't recommend you read chapter 3 before going to bed. If I didn't have a heart condition before, I have one now!

highly recommended. Jenkins keeps your interest throughout, and even draws an occasional tear.(I almost never cry over books) Good drama, and a clear understanding of the earthy nature of police working a Chicago gang unit, personal tragedy, and sacrifice and its relation to salvation. A great picture of growing Agape love in a tough world. This is a police novel(not my usual genre after years of law enforcement-corrections work, but don't let that distract you. A good read, with much material to i...more

The last series I read by Jenkins was the famousLeft Behind collaboration. The Precinct series is way different. More earthy and more real. It moves relatively quickly but long enough for the reader to feel for Boone, Jack and the rest. The plot is interesting albeit a little predictable but the characters make it seem that this all could be happening to the guy next door.
Brian Eshleman
Self-righteousness and despondent grief confronted in a Christian protagonist. A gangster whose past by his own admission was wholly evil not only confronted and convicted but CHANGED -- and with a redirection rather than removal of his sarcastic sense of humor. Not your average Christian fiction characters, and Jenkins skillfully moves them through a dramatic plot.
