I loved this free read by mark Alders. It was a short true story about his sexual coming of age that was super funny in parts and sad and scary in others. I felt truly violated on his behalf at one point and was so glad he found his one true love in the end! This story moved me. Thank you for sharing Mark!
An honest, heartfelt, wonderfully funny and sad tale of Mark's formative years. I really enjoyed the style of writing which came across as relaxed and candid and as I imagined it would be if I were to sit down and chat with the author. I was amazed by Mark's contribution to Stuff My Stocking: M/M Romance Stories that are Nice and… Naughty which was brilliantly original and will definitely be reading more of Mark's work starting with Shadows of the Mind. (In fact I'm off now to purchase it from A...more
I just had to see what all the chatter was about...'cause there sure was a lot it in one of my book groups and now I see why!
The Mis-adventures of a Teenage Mark was a very insightful peek into the author's teenage years as he explored his sexuality. This story made me feel a variety of emotions. I laughed...A LOT while reading about the interesting situations in which he found himself. I felt sad for him a few times when people he trusted turned against him. I was scared for him on occasion, fo...more

Everyone, it's such amazing free short story!
Ooooooooohhhhh I was in such a bad/terrible/killer mood and a friend of mine (thanks Manu!) wrote me just those words "read this freebie, you will feel better". I'm not feeling better now... nope... I'm freaking smiling and crying and scaring my Bonsai (I was reading near my 15 old bonsai, he is a good company... never interrupt me while I'm reading).
It's a open heart story, with so many "I'll die laughing"
moments, during the teen years, but also "cry my eye out"
parts near the end. What can...more
I liked this for a number of reasons and then some.
First of all, it's written in an incredible light and moving voice. The sense of wonder of the discovery of one's body is still present, as the curiosity and enthusiam. Even when the author is going through a painful memory, the tone is never bitter thanks to the wisdom of the adult age.
Second, I like comparing experiences of people of my age all around the world and I realized that we all went through the same experiences (VHS stacks of brother...more

On a personal note here:
A few words came to mind when i was reading this book... There was one in particular which came up quite frequently... F#@K! I was literally cringing while reading this, thinking "oh god no. He didn't. He couldn't have.......... F#@K! HE DID!" haha I feel your pain, man... ouch.
Now for the review:
Wow Mark. Just WOW! How in god's name did you manage to convey something so personal and emotional as your childhood with so much laidback humour?! ... some of the scenarios you...more

Oh boy! What a fantastic read! Mr. Alders got me to tears and with physical pain from laughing so hard. While telling his escapades as a young man, he reminded me of how stupid and naive we are at such tender age and how those ridiculous episodes turn into fun memories after the embarrassment ebbs.
Between fruit, ants, sand and the best motive for a library visit, The Mis-adventures of a Teenage Mark snared my attention and left me wanting more. Definitely recommend this and hope I can read some...more

This was a wonderful, funny, touching, and at times sad, true accounting of author Mark Alders' teenage years. I found myself laughing out loud at some of his adventures. It's hard to believe many of the predicaments Mark got himself into. There is also sadness, but in the end there is a HEA for Mark.
I am grateful to Mark for writing his story and for letting us (the reader) share several of his "firsts". I don't know many people who would be so willing to relate stories about themselves, especi...more

For those who need a laugh and who don't mind m/m
An entertaining and hysterical autobiographical telling of Mark's sexual adventures as a young man. I highly recommend reading this. I shall never look at watermelons the same way again.
Okay, just thinking about this story is making me laugh all over again. Some of it was bittersweet, some of it was funny (I laughed so loud I had to explain part of one of the stories to my boss), but all of it was a fascinating, raw look at the things that made Mark the man he is today. Some of the stories made me remember quite a bit of the things I had gotten into as a teenager with a few clues and an active imagination. (I really have to block those memories before I'm tempted to write them....more
I absolutely loved this! There were some brutally sad scenes that had me in tears, but for the most part it was hilariously (and sometimes horrifyingly) funny. I think the watermellon and ant stories were by far my favourites, and ones I'll not soon forget! (Great cover choice BTW! LOL!). The ending was really sweet and had me all teary-eyed again. I couldn't help wishing that we could have gotten to read about his first real loving/tender sexual experience, but at the same time, I can understan...more
It takes a lot of courage to bare yourself like this. Thank you, Mr. Alders, for giving us this honest recounting of your well-named 'teenage mis-adventures'.
In the short span of this story, I laughed until tears ran down my face, and then the tears were in sympathy for those traumatic experiences we all have and wish to forget. I understand about the sunscreen smell situation. I can also relate to his reaction to the reading episode at the start.

It's OMG funny. Thanks Mark.
That was a great insight and biography into the life of a teenage boy. I loved it!! It was full of great wit and humor, especially as said teenage boy experimented with his sexuality, but those ants had me crossing my legs. OUCH!! There was seriousness, loss, sadness, learning, and growth...all of which brought the author to where he is today in a wonderful partnership. Great story! So glad the author decided to share it! :)
Thankgawd I was born a girl. I have never had sex with any fruit and my vagina has never been attacked by ants. I nearly died laughing while reading about the two ladies who helped pick the ants off you. God what they must of gone home and talked about eh!
Thankyou for writing such a wonderfully witty and honest account.
I think the ending was the sweetest, congratulations on finding your soulmate :)

Being a straight single woman from the Midwestern United States I found this story to be pretty educational. There was no experimentation for me growing up (I didn't even get my first real kiss until the age of 19)and it's interesting to see the vast differences in culture. I admire Alders for putting those personal experiences in writing and sharing his feelings.
*Insert Blondie, I Touch Myself song here*
Mark Alders is a teenage boy discovering himself and his penis. It doesn't matter if Mark is covered in watermelon, lube, ants, or in need of a gentle touch, this mind blowingly honest story will have you laughing out loud while praying for a happy ending. Highly enjoyable in all its beauty, just like the author himself.

Funny, painful, exciting, inventive and in the end heartwarming. I'm so glad for the HEA because there were some genuinely heart-breaking moments (and damn Fenn anyway. Sean at least had the excuse of his youth and lack of good information and his own fears and issues.) Amazing that could be written with such good humour and positive outlook.

I live in Melbourne, Victoria, in the land of Oz. According to my own Teenage mis-adventures, I am just an ordinary guy with a penis which likes to get me into trouble…a lot. I’ve seduced trees, copulated with watermelons, and had nice old ladies pick ants off my naked body. Yep, that’s me. Mark Alders. All round nice guy and with my brain firmly in my pants, exactly where it belongs!
