Ryuichi is a samurai who left his master because he was unworthy, however that's a no-no and now no one will hire him and just as he's about to commit suicide at the foot of Mount Fuji, Kaji a kitsune (fox shifter) speaks to him. He promises Ryuichi a good job with his master if he will marry him. Ryuichi heard that kitsune women were hot so agrees and they marry. However that night he's in for a bit of a surprise. Kaji is a guy. Eeek. However after a minor freak-out he is all about honour and c...more

This story is very much like a fairy tale, with a bargain being made without the main character checking things out or thinking them through. As he learns to live with his decision, he discovers a side to himself he's never known. He also learns to live with the consequences of his actions.

There are several messages about honor, love and acceptance and what's really important in this story. I really liked the style as well. Very cute!

A samurai and a fox spirit make a deal. Ryuichi was prepared to die but was offered a new position and a spouse, whom he promised to be a loving and loyal husband. With a kitsune there is always a twist!

Story sounds a bit like a fairytale but does not compare with my favorite one's from Megan Derr. It's a short story so there is not really a lot of room for depth and character development. Still the initial shock of finding out your husband is a male, was gone really quick, too qu...more

I love fairy tales and folklore. I was very happy to see a story about a Japanese fairy fox. Since fox weddings can be so significant in Japanese folklore, I was doubly intrigued by the title of this story. I liked the characters and found the story engaging. I wish there had been more to it than simply a series of obstacles and tricks, however.

Fun little story written with a light touch in a slightly old-fashioned style as befits the nature of the subject matter.

cute little story about a Kitsune (without accent in Japanese) and a ronin (a samurai without master). some little mistakes about Japan but that wasn't too important. The only thing that bothered me was that the name of the Daimyo (the head master) had a ? in the middle of his name because of the fonts used and not checked when editing.

The samurai Ryuichi is dishonored by leaving a bad master and about to kill himself when the kitsune Kaji-no-Shita appears. The fox-spirit promises him a good master if he agrees to a marriage. But of course all is not as it seems and Ryuichi realises that his foxy lady is not what he thought.

We never learn Kaji's real name or why he chose Fujiwara for his husband in this short japanese fairytale. 2.5 - 3 stars.
