A very nice entry in the Osprey "Raid" series. Here, we read of Sir Francis Drake's depredations against (especially) the Spanish. His naval raids on treasure ships drove the Spanish to distraction and made him one of Elizabeth I's favorites.

The book focuses on his raid on the Spanish Main in 1585-1586.

But it begins by providing context for this. First, what is known of his early life. By age 20, he was an experienced sailor. He began his learning of sailing and raiding with the well known John

Auch wer sich nicht für Militärgeschichte im engeren Sinne interessiert, kommt mit diesem Osprey-Buch aus der Serie „Raid“ wieder einmal auf seine Kosten. Natürlich liegt es nahe, dass Konstam den Ablauf der einzelnen Eroberungen wie Vigo, Santiago, Santo Domingo, Cartagena und St. Augustine minutiös beschreibt.
