Kellerman's Decker and Lazarus series is a bit like a seismograph: up and down, up and down. A good book ... then a horrific book.

The previous entry in this series, Sanctuary, I really enjoyed. I find that I prefer the books that deal more in-depth with the religious aspects of the storyline ... the Orthodox Judaism, the different approaches to Judaism, etc. I find it fascinating.

This seems to be the more cop-focused, police procedural type book that usually alternates wit More...

Another good book in the series by this author. Not a duff one so far.

Back Cover Blurb:
Called to investigate the shocking murder of a high-school student, Detective Sergeant Pete Decker finds himself face to face with a world of casual drunkenness, sex and, it seems, violence - the world of suburban Los Angeles's affluent, rootless teenagers. And, as the father of a nineteen year old daughter, Decker must deal not only with the brutality of the killing but with his own parent More...

I've been reading this series in order, and I liked this one least of all of them. I'll read one more to see if I'll go further with the series.
The interaction between Decker and his wife was limited, so that part of the "human interest" was lacking. Worst, to me, were the totally unbelievable characters. I see other people liked the them; not I. An 18-year-old cello virtuoso who's a mafia hitman? Really now, how believable is that? And who didn't figure out he was a hitman short More...

My all time favorite book! I became emotionally attached to a character. It's another coming of age story for a late teen woman who comes from an emotionally unavailable home. And story of justice for a killer, for the victim's family, for an overlooked employee, and for a corrupt public servant. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy and in a way, depend on this book.

This to me had a different style of writing and/or form. I have been reading all of the books back to back so it may seem more noticeable to me. Still a good story, a little creepy, I missed Rina and Marge. Now I've started Prayers for the Dead. This is the last on my kindle so now I need to get the rest of them.. or go to the library and read them the old fashion way. ;P I think my bookmark misses me.. lol...

Another series I love .I read Faye Kellerman's books about the Jewish detective with the melded family.Jonathan Kellermans books about the psychologist helping Milo the detective and their son Jesse's books. The only books which have not impressed are the ones written together by Faye and Jonathan ,how strange .

This book is number 8 in the Peter Decker/Rina Lazarus detecive series and quite different from the first 7 of her books. This book focused less on the religious lessons this series is known for and was written with a much different style. While still told from the third-person point of view of detective Sergeant Decker, it added a first-person account from the teenage character the book focused on. Because I am impulsive, I found myself skipping ahead to these parts and OOPS! ruined a bit of th More...

I'm normally not crazy about Faye Kellerman's writing, but this book intrigued me from the beginning because the characters and their relationships were so interesting. The plot and subplots weren't predictable (as they are in so many crime novels) and that kept me engaged right up to the end.

I did find this book a bit exciting. However, there were a lot of instances where information was provided that was completely unnecessary. At the beginning of the story they talk a lot about the daughter leading the reader to believe the two instances will eventually link - which they don't. There's a lot of emphasis on Decker's religion which is pretty useless, as well.

And you could see the ending coming a mile away.

If you love great thrillers, you'll enjoy Justice, another great book in the Lazarus/Decker series. Peter Decker is worried on his eldest daughter Cindy, who's at college, when a rapist hits their campus. While he's investigating the case, you'll get to see the story between Terry, a nerdish tutor to Chris Whitman, the nephew of a mob boss, and their obsessive love affair, when a murder happens on Prom Night, and this couple is torn apart. It's up to Decker to nail the killer and put away the ba More...

I like all of Kellerman's books. I first read this book more than a decade ago. At the time it was not a favorite, but it stayed with me. The characters are compelling even if the mystery is not equally as satisfying.

This one has a main part of the story told from another viewpoint which is different from the rest I've read so far. I haven't decided if this was good or bad. I think I did like those characters as much as Peter and Rina though.

Another good book in the series, slightly different because it did not focus too much on the family but more of a first person account of one of the characters.

Half way thru and its an awesome read!
I really enjoyed the love story between Chris and Terry. As always , Kellerman does a terrific job with details and she must do alot of research . Rina didn't play a huge part in this one, just the loving doting wife of an overworked, dedicated detective.
So on a scale of 1-10 , 1 being the worst and 10 awesome, i would give this one a 9. So next up is Prayers for the Dead!

This book was an unexpected nice surprise. I thought it was going to be a typical slightly boring crime novel. But, it was interesting, it keep you guessing and its quite difficult to stop reading.
The story is mainly about the relationship betwenn good catholic girl Terri and son of well- known gangleader and renound pathological liar Chris. A girl that Chris knows rather coitusly gets murdered. So Chris is automatically suspected, you know with the whole realted to the gang memeber thing More...

Not up to this authors usual standards, in my opinion. Extremely graphic~unnecessarily so. I guess what I enjoy so much about the other books in this series is the descriptions of the culture and beliefs of Orthodox Jews. I'm a Christian, but I always feel that learning about the Jewish faith tells me more about the history of my own, since Jesus was a Jew.
I enjoy reading about Decker and Rina's family life, too.
However, Justice had little or no information about Decker's faith, o More...

Loved this book. It was dark & mysterious and took a turn at the end that I did not expect. Christoper Whitman/Donatti was pure evil even though I wanted him to be the nice guy that Terry thought he was. This was the 2nd time I read this book and liked it even more the second time.

Justice is written by Faye Kellerman. its the type of book you cant put down. it is the eight book in the series of the Peter Decker/ Rina Lazarus mysteries. The plot is clear and the characters are well developed. There are a slot of suprising twists throughout the story. And an unexpected end. I would recommend this to young adults.

I enjoy reading this series and will continue to do so. I liked the mystery and it held my attention to the end. I was less impressed with the attempt by the author to write the way she thinks Black people speak. I found the main character interesting but a bit up and down and way off towards the end.

This is the second Faye Kellerman book that I've read and I really like her. It kept me interested and not wanting to put it down - got through it in two days. I won't say that it is totally unpredictable, but it is fun reading anyway!

Faye Kellerman is always worth reading. She develops her characters in a genre that doesn't always allow an author much leeway. Peter Decker and Rina Lazarus will live, and love, in the memories of crime lovers for a long time.

Best of the series so far. More police work than family in this one and it makes it a better read. Don't want to see the family go but just a bit less.
