The blurb on the back calls Jackson Benson's 2004 Ox-Bow Man "quite simply the best book that will ever be done on Walter Van Tilburg Clark," which, while Benson has written a fine book, is probably true enough by the fact of its existence alone: though there are two critical works on Clark, a slim 1969 study by Max Westbrook (an academic reading of Jungian archetypes into his fiction that went straight over my head), and a nice collection essays put together in 1983 by Clark's friend and collea ...more
